I get police officers that patrol my streets (and that's about all they do...that and look for free donuts)-

a fire hall a block from my house (with firemen that sit on the computer 24/7 bitching about people who don't appreciate them plus entertain pole dancers)-

plowed streets (after the neighbors already plowed them)-

libraries (that are barely open)-

parks like Harley (we have a biker park?)-

Sounds like a bargin to me. (yup, and it's a bargain, too)

My tax bill for next year is $2200 less than $500 go to the city. So for all of that I get police officers that patrol my streets, a fire hall a block from my house, plowed streets, libraries, parks like Harley and the Lakewalk. Sounds like a bargin to me. Have any of you actually looked at what goes to the city vs. the county vs. schools. The city is the best deal on there.

A lot of you complain about how much the city costs you, but I don't think you realize what you get for the money.

Duluth illegally managed its employees' health-care fund
The Minnesota Department of Commerce has determined that the city of Duluth’s group health-care fund — which pays the health-care claims of active and retired employees — has been managed illegally since its inception.
By: Brandon Stahl, Duluth News Tribune

Fire union's letter sparked investigation into city's insurance fund

The Minnesota Department of Commerce has determined that the city of Duluth’s group health-care fund — which pays the health-care claims of active and retired employees — has been managed illegally since its inception, the Duluth News Tribune has learned.

Though the city could have made the information public a month ago, it’s only now coming to light because of a News Tribune investigation.

The decision could mean a change in the way the fund is managed and regulated, taking it out of the city’s hands.

It also might force the city to transfer $500,000 from an investment account, where the city had hoped to earn higher interest, back to the group health-care fund.

A senior city manager argues that, if fund managers had followed Department of Commerce rules all along, the city wouldn’t be strapped with a nearly $300 million unfunded retiree health-care burden.

“If we had run things by the book, I don’t think we’d be in the mess we’re in,” John Grandson, the city’s director of maintenance, said when told of the Department of Commerce decision.

“There would have been retiree health care, but it would have been at a different level. We wouldn’t have this giant unfunded liability.”

In October 2000, when Gary Doty was mayor, Grandson said he was assigned by then-chief administrator Mark Winson to study the retiree health-care issue. Grandson said he implored the health insurance committee to explore following the Department of Commerce regulations.

He said one of his failings was not getting the appropriate city personnel to listen.

“There’s a reason why there are rules and regulations for governing health insurance,” Grandson said, “and there are a lot of mistakes the city of Duluth has made in the past that wouldn’t have been made had we followed the rules and statutes we had been required to follow.”

The city is self-insured, meaning it pays for its own health-care claims. It oversees the group health fund through a committee made up of city managers and union representatives.

The fund also pays the health-care claims of employees with the Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority, the Duluth Airport Authority and the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center — though those entities do not have say in how the fund is managed.

The commerce department ruled that those agencies should have had a say and be treated as a “pool,” meaning the commerce department must oversee the fund to ensure compliance with state regulations.

Under state regulations, a board of trustees would have to be set up to oversee the fund, a certified public accountant must audit the pool annually, and any investment of money from the fund has to be done by an outside investor with no ties to the city or pool participants.

CAO: CITY WILL COMPLY

The city has not yet complied with an order to treat the fund as a pool, said Duluth Chief Administrative Officer Mark Winson, but attempts to do so have begun.

Winson sent an e-mail to senior city staff Friday afternoon informing them about the Department of Commerce determination.

The city also sent a letter to the three authorities that receive health care from the city, and the city is complying with a data and information request made by the department. “We will come into compliance with the state statute that regulates this,” Winson said.

He said no attempt has been made to conceal information about the Department of Commerce decision. Brent Bordelon, a commerce department attorney, said the city correctly kept the information private until an internal investigation conducted by the department was completed.

Winson acknowledged that if the city followed the department of commerce regulations, the unfunded health-care liability wouldn’t be what it is today, but disagreed that it would be significantly smaller.

“The benefit for retiree health care is based on future payments through contracts,” he said. “Had there been a board of trustees in place, there might have been movement toward addressing the unfunded liability quicker.”

However, Winson said that the federal rule that forced the city to calculate the retiree health-care burden wasn’t in place until 2003.

Since there have been several liberal candidates already out there, Does anyone have a list of the conservative candidates that are running. We need to get on the ball, talk is good, but at some point we need to get out there and work to see the left defeated. I hope to bring an end to the defeatist mentality a lot of conservatives in Duluth have. I believe that the time is ripe to finally win a majority in the city council, but we need to get the word out. I find it funny that they think the city is too right leaning. I suppose that if your are an extremest then the dfl is too right. I also want to say "way to go" to all the people that showed up for the TEA party, even the media could not ignore the people screaming for economic liberty, stop trying to tell us what companies can be in Duluth. I say as long as you are a legal company, then our response should be, "we will do whatever is necessary to bring you to Duluth"
So there's my rant for the day, get out, help out and run for office.

3. The Spend, Spend, Spend Plan
4. Don’t Just Sit There – Do Something!

1. DFL’s Tax, Tax, Tax Plan

With one month left to balance the state’s budget (which is currently running a $6 billion deficit), you can imagine that the tax increase proposals are popping up. After all, for tax-and-spenders it’s an easy cop out.

Here’s a run down of the House DFL’s $1.8 billion tax bill just proposed Monday.

New 4th Tier Income Tax Bracket: Joint filers who make $300,000 or more would pay 9%, which is one of the highest tax rates in the country.

Sin Taxes: Because they are “easier” to justify, the House DFL proposed tax increases on cigarettes and alcohol. After cigarettes just got slapped with a 61 cent per pack tax increase at the federal level, this bill would increase it another 54 cents. And alcoholic drinks would have a sales tax increase bringing the rate from 12.1% to 15.7% depending on where it is purchased.

Digital Downloads: Currently if you go to a local store to buy music you will pay sales tax on it. However, if download music digitally online you don’t have to pay taxes on it. The House DFL is proposing to expand the sales tax to digitally downloaded music purchases. This would hurt Minnesota businesses because it’s so easy to purchase digital music from businesses not based in Minnesota (who don’t have sales tax) on the internet.

Eliminating Tax Deductions: The House DFL also hopes to raise $275 million by eliminating several tax deductions including the popular home mortgage interest, charitable contributions, property taxes and others.

The Senate DFL has also proposed their own tax bill – to the tune of $2.2 billion:

New 4th Tier Income Tax Bracket: The Senate bill goes further than the House and creates a new tier for joint filers who make $250,000 or more. The rate is 9.25%.

Across the Board Income Tax Increases: The Senate DFL not only increases taxes on the highest wage-earners, but increases every single income tax rate.

Both House and Senate Democrats insist the only way to resolve the state’s budget shortfall is billions of dollars in new taxes. In order to solve budget deficit for the long term, legislators must reform government spending. Please contact your legislator today and tell them to read “Real State Budget Reform” which is a proposal to solve the budget deficit without raising taxes.

2. Tax Cut Rally – Let Us Know You’ll be There!

Join the Taxpayers League and Jason Lewis at the 2009 Tax Cut Rally! On Saturday, May 2nd, from 11am-4pm thousands of Minnesotans will converge upon the state capitol grounds to tell legislators that their tax-and-spend ways have got to go. This year the Tax Cut Rally is a full fun-filled and family-friendly day with many activities, including:

Food
Exhibitors

Emailing Legislators about not raising taxes to balance the budget!

American Freedom Display

Borders Books
Remembering Our Troops Tour
Tax Cut Rally T-Shirts

And best of all….a great line up of speakers including Governor “Veto Pen” Pawlenty and “America’s Mr. Right” Jason Lewis.

You won’t want to miss this! Visit our website for the latest news and to help.

3. The Spend, Spend, Spend Plan

The first major finance bill to pass the state House and Senate this year does nothing to help balance the state’s $6 billion budget deficit.

In fact, it is another multi-million spending package in the form of a bonding bill. The Senate’s version is $329 million and the House’s is slightly smaller. Although even years are when the state legislature usually passes bonding bills, the state legislature decided to use the wavering economy as a justification for spending more taxpayer dollars this year.

But does the state of Minnesota really need $11 million for gorilla and polar bear exhibits, $6.5 million for a women’s hockey exposition center, and $4 million for a volleyball facility?

Just like in Washington, legislators in St. Paul are creating more debt for taxpayers and their children and their tax-and-spend ways must be exposed. What a great reason to join us at the Tax Cut Rally on May 2nd!

Read more about the bonding bills in Phil Krinkie’s column “There They Go Again” here.

The Minnesota Senate will consider raising all state income taxes, with married couples earning more than $250,000 annually being taxed at a new, higher 9.25 percent rate.

Higher income taxes are the key to the Democratic-Farmer-Labor controlled Senate plan that raises taxes $2 billion all told.

Today's announcement sets up a three-way tax battle with the House and Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

The DFL-controlled House on Monday begin looking at a plan that keeps all income taxes the same except for couples who earn more than $300,000. They would pay 9 percent of their income in taxes. The House bill also would raise tobacco and alcohol taxes.

"It's bad enough that Democrats propose giving Minnesota one of the highest income tax rates in the nation and raising taxes on someone having a beer or a glass of wine," Pawlenty spokesman Brian McClung said. "But they really go over the cliff when they propose to increase taxes for child care or for donating an organ."

Republican Pawlenty continues to say he will not accept a state tax increase. However, he does add revenue to his budget proposal by borrowing $1 billion.

The Senate plan raises the lowest income tax rate from 5.3 percent to 6 percent. Middle-income Minnesotans now pay 7.05 percent of their income in taxes, but under the Senate plan it would rise to 7.7 percent. The former upper bracket taxpayers' rates rise from 7.85 percent to 8.5 percent.

The Senate's proposed tax increases would run through 2013.

It also allows Cook County to use its existing local sales tax for more uses than one community center and allows the Seaway Port Authority of Duluth to levy a property tax up to 0.01813 percent. It also allows Cloquet and Perch Lake Township to levy a property tax up to 0.2835 percent of taxable market value.

Also, the bill eliminates truth in taxation hearings that local governments now are required to hold, giving the public a chance to comment on budget decisions.

Dave D., You go to the city of duluth web site and then take that to the assessors office. Once there you go to property search. I search the properties either by name or address. Once the property comes up you click on it and it gives you all the info like size, year built, value of land, value of home, owner, last sale and for how much, and also how much the property is assessed at. The site is not 100 percent up to date but it gives you a good idea.

Gotta read this one folks, from Kim Johnson's blog at:

http://www.wdio.com/article/11479/

It was the who's who of Duluth's progressive community at the dinner. All the left-leaning city councilors and council candidates addressed the room, some making bolder statements than others. Councilor Sharla Gardner said the dialouge on the council needs to be shifted to the left. "A lot of the dialogue on the council is dominated to the right," she said. "We have some great progressive candidates who will shift dialogue."

Councilor Jeff Anderson agreed and said an example of the "right dialouge" was at last week's DEDA meeting when Commissioner Jay Fosle opposed sending a represenative to Sweden for a sister cities trip to learn about green initiatives. Fosle didn't think spending $1,500 was wise and asked if it could be "looked up on the web" instead.

Keep in mind, the Progressive have already rolled out many of their candidates. Elizabeth Olson, Patrick Boyle, Kerry Gauthier. Hartmann's already announced but I don't know how "progressive" he is. DFL endorsing convention is mid-May. Why so early? There could be other DFL candidates out there that haven't made the decision yet. Why? Because their slate has already been decided.

I, for one, don't want more left-leaning conversations on the city council. Look where that's got us the last few decades or so.

Doesn't the city have big enough problems for the city council to consider? I think Councilor Anderson should be worried about solving Duluth's huge financial problems, fixing our horrible streets, or working to save some of our few remaining jobs rather than ignoring that to try to pass a hugely controversial proposal that is none of the city's business anyway.

I really did give Councilor Anderson a chance but he's turned into a huge failure.

Let me get this straight. DFL Duluth mayor Donny Boy Ness has no idea what to do with the $300,000,000.00 health care obligation for city workers yet DFL Duluth city councilor Jeffrey Anderson wants the taxpayers to pick up the health care costs for anyone who wants to sign up and register as partners, either normal sexual orientation or homos. So the answer to the city's health care costs is to pay for those unmarried people as well who want the rest of us to pay for them to play, "Bury the weinie"? What a farce this DFL mafia led city has become. DFL Special Interests at work.

DFL Duluth, looking out for themselves for decades at your expense! Jeff Anderson is trying to once again make Duluth the laughingstock of the U.S. just like Donny Boy did a few months back. What an embarrassment these clowns are.

80021 - Mon Apr 20 20:30:08 2009 - [Growth forecast a joke and a lie] By: Mr. Duluth
I hope that Tea Party was fun for those of you who went. I do believe we need to question government spending and the wars we get into as seen in the past. It seems spending money on this current war and now trying to fix an economy without new growth in the forecast is a joke. Our Capitalistic society is about losing too. Sorry, some fail in this game. I think the question is what is the true worth of these stocks and the homes we live in. It seems that faith is to strong a factor in setting a worth as seen by falling prices in the housing market and in stocks during these times.

There are winners during our troubling economic melt down; they are nameless to me, yet they do exist. Perhaps the Trump types or a step below are who these people might be. They are the winners in this game of money. Joe Kennedy, the father of those dead or dying famous sons once blasted this rich elite during the Great Depression saying they are not investing in our country now. Kennedy perhaps was one too. Maybe the same could be said now.

I think the Tea Party was a good thing, yet my concerns are on those making under $40,000 with kids, or single and making under $25,000 in this city. Yes, taxes and this government spending eats up a chunk, but after rent, these other costs keep out pacing many incomes. I see my income go up maybe 2% a year while other costs are going up at a higher percent. My $40,000 is not covering the same costs I had in 2002. I have less today. It is not just the government doing this to me, my taxes have more or less stay the same over the years.

Ha Ha Ha this was taken out of a piece on the DNT site. The labor force hasn't grown it is people coming here for the free lunch. You do have to act like you are looking for work and sign up at the workforce center(or whatever they call it today). I've run into a few of those in this new labor pool of late. One had so much metal stuck into his body you would think he would come down with blood poisoning. He also walked a little funny because his pants were down around his knees. Ya gotta love the new "workers" coming into the area. Ya they'll stick around all right. he he he he

"...Although jobs remain in short supply, there has been no exodus of people from the Twin Ports. In fact, the labor force in the Duluth-Superior metropolitan statistical area has grown by 917 people between March of this year and last.

“More people are sticking around because they probably think their chances of finding work are better here than elsewhere,” Digby said...."

A Navy Rear Admiral's take on Obama's decision making concerning the hostages and pirates

Having spoken to some SEAL pals here in Virginia Beach yesterday and asking why this thing dragged out for 4 days, I got the following:

1. BHO wouldn't authorize the DEVGRU/NSWC SEAL teams to the scene for 36 hours going against OSC (on scene commander) recommendation.
2. Once they arrived, BHO imposed restrictions on their ROE that they couldn't do anything unless the hostage's life was in "imminent" danger
3. The first time the hostage jumped, the SEALS had the raggies all sighted in, but could not fire due to ROE restriction
4. When the navy RIB came under fire as it approached with supplies, no fire was returned due to ROE restrictions. As the raggies were shooting at the RIB, they were exposed and the SEALS had them all dialed in.
5. BHO specifically denied two rescue plans developed by the Bainbridge CPN and SEAL teams
6. Bainbridge CPN and SEAL team CDR finally decide they have the OpArea and OSC authority to solely determine risk to hostage. 4 hours later, 3 dead raggies
7. BHO immediately claims credit for his "daring and decisive" behavior. As usual with him, it's BS.

So per our last email thread, I'm downgrading Oohbaby's performance to D-. Only reason it's not an F is that the hostage survived.

Read the following accurate account:

Philips’ first leap into the warm, dark water of the Indian Ocean hadn’t worked out as well. With the Bainbridge in range and a rescue by his country’s Navy possible, Philips threw himself off of his lifeboat prison, enabling Navy shooters onboard the destroyer a clear shot at his captors — and none was taken.

The guidance from National Command Authority — the president of the United States, Barack Obama — had been clear: a peaceful solution was the only acceptable outcome to this standoff unless the hostage’s life was in clear, extreme danger.

The next day, a small Navy boat approaching the floating raft was fired on by the Somali pirates — and again no fire was returned and no pirates killed. This was again due to the cautious stance assumed by Navy personnel thanks to the combination of a lack of clear guidance from Washington and a mandate from the commander in chief’s staff not to act until Obama, a man with no background of dealing with such issues and no track record of decisiveness, decided that any outcome other than a “peaceful
solution” would be acceptable.

After taking fire from the Somali kidnappers again Saturday night, the on scene commander decided he’d had enough.

Keeping his authority to act in the case of a clear and present danger to the hostage’s life and having heard nothing from Washington since yet another request to mount a rescue operation had been denied the day before, the Navy officer — unnamed in all media reports to date — decided the AK47 one captor had leveled at Philips’ back was a threat to the hostage’s life and ordered the NSWC team to take their shots.

Three rounds downrange later, all three brigands became enemy KIA and Philips was safe.

There is upside, downside, and spinside to the series of events over the last week that culminated in yesterday’s dramatic rescue of an American hostage.

Almost immediately following word of the rescue, the Obama administration and its supporters claimed victory against pirates in the Indian Ocean and "1
declared that the dramatic end to the standoff put paid to questions of the inexperienced president’s toughness and decisiveness.

Despite the Obama administration’s (and its sycophants’) attempt to spin yesterday’s success as a result of bold, decisive leadership by the inexperienced president, the reality is nothing of the sort.
What should have been a standoff lasting only hours — as long as it took the USS Bainbridge and its team of NSWC operators to steam to the location — became an embarrassing four day and counting standoff between a ragtag handful of criminals with rifles and a U.S. Navy warship.

STARFIRE: PTL, you should tell the Jim Jones story about when he asked the young girl to the back of the his bus to wait for him at the rest stop on the highway. He then showed up and pulled down his pants and proceeded to rape her and in doing so kept telling her that he way doing it for her sake. This behavior on his part leads me to conclude that Jim Jones was indeed a DFLer. Anyone who rapes another and during the course of the rape tells the victim that the rape is being done just for the benefit of the victim is right out of the DFL playbook.

Having just returned to Novosibirsk, aka Duluth, MN, and catching up on all things DFL in Duluth as usual, I couldn't help laughing at this one by the Donny Boy Ness in the Budgeteer.

"We are eligible for these funds, and we are worthy of these funds."

He sounds like a DFL crack whore to me. How is Duluth eligible for these funds? Or worthy? By leading the state in low income jobs and having the highest priced fire department in the state as well as the highest poverty rate? How can this bought and paid for DFL Duluth mayor have no shame as all?

Is this what he means by "partnering" with the feds? Is that kinda like partnering with the state, which is, give DFL Duluth more money to keep things afloat while the rest of the state picks up the tab for us?

And what is this about this latest DFL candidate running for council, Kerry Gauthier? I looked up the name on Gaywatch, buit it wasn't there. Maybe they are a little behind right now if you know what I mean. If Kerry gets elected in DFL Duluth we can all expect him and Jeff to do some Packing and ramming this homo rights crap on our tax statement next. That is the ordinance that allows someone to claim that they are in a relationship with another, just people for now, but I expect animals to come next, and then have the taxpayers pick up the medical bills for this special needs, I mean special interest group, all in the name of justice. I agree with 911 being an inside job. The people need to wake up before it’s too late. First moves should be peaceful ones. Boycott their mainstream media, Hollywood and actors, and a lot of their advertisers. Devastate their pocketbooks and their power at the same time. The right and left infighting has allowed all this to go on and both fringes are completely blind to the loss of their civil liberties or part of the coup.

80007 - Sun Apr 19 15:00:43 2009 - [Political allegiance is blinding] By: JBBP
Don't worry, folks.

It's so typical of the left to try to portray organized acts of protest against any aspects of their various agendas as 'right-wing' or 'Republican.' It doesn't matter what the issue is, really, be it taxation, abortion, gay marriage, property rights, education, whatever.

Don't miss the point of all of this. It isn't only about taxation. I think all of us are aware of the fact that we need to pay taxes in order to support a military/infrastructure, etc. that will benefit the citizens and protect the nation.

What we are acknowledging, and challenging, is the corruption that has infected the entire system, which is being used to extort hard-earned money from the citizens to be diverted to things that are anything but in the interests of the citizens. This network of political crones have hijacked the Constitution by warping and misusing its words to suit their own agendas, counting on the masses to swallow their slanted interpretations without the masses' bothering to actually READ the document.

We have collectively trusted these elected officials like contented cattle, who don't even realize who or what is supplying their(our) feed because it's always been there, without taking into account the reasons they(we) are being fed and provided for. They(we) will be used for something, guaranteed...but they(we) live in the moment.

We can no longer afford to 'live in the moment.' We can no longer have the attitude that says well, if it's good for me, it must be good. We can no longer overlook or otherwise ignore who and what stands to benefit from the government through inflated wages, imposed regulations, mandates, campaign donations, and out-and-out bailouts...nor can we ignore the reasons/individuals behind these schemes.

Incidentally, former city councilor Russ Stewart was at the tea party event, and he even gave a speech. He isn't by any stretch a 'right wing/conservative/Republican,' so that obviously isn't why HE was there, is it? People whose politics hail from the entire political spectrum were there.

It scares the hell out of the left when their propoganda methods are failing to divide the people by political party or economic/racial/gender/religious status. They like to invoke class warfare in order to create the distractions necessary to divert the battle/attention away from themselves.

That's been relatively easy for them to accomplish...but not anymore. The awakening of this sleeping giant, this beast of burden that has carried them with broken back for all these years...is proving to be much to their thinly-veiled chagrin.

Thank you.

The Obama Deception Full Length

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7535755025025800195

The Obama Deception is a hard-hitting film that completely destroys the myth that Barack Obama is working for the best interests of the American people. The Obama phenomenon is a hoax carefully crafted by the captains of the New World Order. He is being pushed as savior in an attempt to con the American people into accepting global slavery. We have reached a critical juncture in the New World Orders plans. Its not about Left or Right: its about a One World Government. The international banks plan to loot the people of the United States and turn them into slaves on a Global Plantation. Covered in this film: who Obama works for, what lies he has told, and his real agenda. If you want to know the facts and cut through all the hype, this is the film for you. Watch the Obama Deception and learn how: * Obama is continuing the process of transforming America into something that resembles Nazi Germany, with forced National Service, domestic civilian spies, warrantless wiretaps, the destruction of the Second Amendment, FEMA camps and Martial Law. * Obamas handlers are openly announcing the creation of a new Bank of the World that will dominate every nation on earth through carbon taxes and military force. * International bankers purposefully engineered the worldwide financial meltdown to bankrupt the nations of the planet and bring in World Government. * Obama plans to loot the middle class, destroy pensions and federalize the states so that the population is completely dependent on the Central Government. * The Elite are using Obama to pacify the public so they can usher in the North American Union by stealth, launch a new Cold War and continue the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. The information contained in this film is vital to the future of the Republic and to freedom worldwide. President Barack Obama is only the tool of a larger agenda. Until all are made aware, humanity will remain captive to the masters of the New World Order.

http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/118076/group/home/

Excerpt:
We do know that crowd counts, especially for political events, can be incendiary. So three of our staffers got involved in trying to get the Duluth number right. Multimedia Editor Jimmy Bellamy, who was shooting video footage, counted out about 100 people in the crowd and then went through the rest of the pack, section by section. He counted seven roughly 100-person sections.

Separately, Photo Editor Bob King found the right vantage point and snapped a shot of the entire crowd. Without counting every head, he did a rough assessment similar to Bellamy’s and arrived at about 700 people. He showed the photo to reporter Andy Greder and asked him to do the same, without telling him his result. Greder also came up with about 700.

Claire is the troll, living beneath rocks. Keep it up, you're providing great entertainment. Feel free to cut and past this on your blog. This one is UNALTERED.

Our View: Tea Parties not exactly non-partisan

Duluth’s Tax Day Tea Party drew an estimated crowd of 700 tax-weary Northlanders. Photo by Bob King/News TribuneRELATED CONTENT
Image
On the surface, Wednesday’s Tax Day Tea Parties from coast to coast seemed like somewhat spontaneous events.

After all, they were heralded as nonpartisan, grassroots and hastily organized demonstrations over federal spending.

But then another side of the story emerged.

Reality is, these “nonpartisan” events were organized by conservative advocacy groups such as Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works.

Speaking with AFP’s Tim Phillips, CNN’s Rick Sanchez asked, “Why didn’t we see these during the Bush administration, who, by the way, has been accused, by the right and the left, of being a bit of a spendthrift himself?”

It was an observation that resonated locally.

“The sad part about the whole "protest
,” Patsy wrote on Perfect Duluth Day, “is that the right-wing locals who promoted this as an anti-government spending rally don’t seem to realize it was a national effort to protest the Obama administration’s attempt to fix what the "Bush
administration left behind.”

On that, while many attended the Tea Party protests held across the nation, a USA Today/Gallup Poll released Wednesday found that 52 percent of those polled approve of the government “expanding its role to deal with the economic crisis.”

And, as for the extent of the events’ “grassroots” nature, a blogger on CommonDreams.org hit the nail on the head when he/she called the Tea Parties “Astroturf.”

“Fake grassroots,” wrote $ave the Rich. “It’s what you get when big business and rich zealots hire pricey consultants to manufacture public outrage.”

This is all a shame, because, had these Tea Parties actually been non-partisan — instead of a GOP tactic to get its members fired up again — they could have sent a much stronger message.

I think a lot of folks will admit that the sub-prime mortgage mess, and all the shenanigans tied to sub-prime mortgages, are a large driver for this economic crisis that we’re in. Here is a wonderful article from the NY Times in 1999 that I would recommend that everyone read:

http://www.nytimes.com/1999/09/30/business/fannie-mae-eases-credit-to-aid-mortgage-lending.html?sec=&spon=&&scp=2&sq=franklin%20d.%20raines&st=cse

Here is an excerpt, again, from 9-30-1999 New York Times:
In moving, even tentatively, in this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, PROMPTING A GOVERNMENT RESCUE SIMILAR TO THAT OF THE SAVINGS AND LOAN INDUSTRY IN THE 1980’S.

Read this article and then ask yourself who is predominantly responsible for what we’re going through right now. By the way, 1999 was during the Clinton administration.

Reader's view: City trying to unload aquarium on UMD

I was alarmed, but not shocked, that state Rep. Roger Reinert, a former Duluth city councilor, was pushing for legislation in St. Paul allowing the University of Minnesota Duluth to take over the Great Lakes Aquarium. I shouldn’t have to remind Duluthians about the facility’s history, given all the unfavorable financial publicity it has had since day one.

Reinert, after spending years on the City Council, learned from the inside the shortcomings and problems the city has had all these years to keep the aquarium afloat. Now, as a member of the Legislature, armed with information he received from City Hall, Reinert wants UMD to take over.

I suspect there is an ulterior motive playing here: transferring the facility from the city to UMD would cause less controversy than any other agency of government because the educational process seems to be insulated from public opinion. The university and state eventually would swallow all costs, allowing a slam dunk for the city.

City Hall would be ecstatic to learn it could unload this burden. The city has way too much on its plate to not encourage such a plan. Poli-tics as usual.

Aquarium Director Jack LaVoy, no stranger to politics as an ex-legislative member from Duluth, should be in position to offer the finest advice to all parties concerned.

I read on this blog about a female (assumption) that has the name of Claire. Can someone tell me who she is and why the fuss about her. She has been mentioned several times and one blogger told her to change her "tea bag" because it is starting to stink. If this Clair Blogger is a female I think it is not appropriate to talk about her "cycle" like that. Keep the conversation about the issues and not personal. As a female, lets keep this Blog on the up and up.

Well, she claims she's a writer, so I just googled her name and the first 5 things that came up are about her publishing/writing info. The 6th item that came up was how she was elected to the Progressive Action's steering committee. Then I hit IMAGES on google and there she is! None of this is private stuff either....it's all public info so it's not like anybody is invading her privacy. If she doesn't want people to see her then she shouldn't have her picture taken with "famous" people like Dave Barry. Just make sure you spell her name right....DELETED. I'm sure she will get all pissy that I actually put her full name on here but if you're going to be a writer/publisher, you want people to know you and talk about you, right? I'm just doing my part.

79976 - Thu Apr 16 11:08:39 2009 - [Say No to the Drunken Spending Frenzy] By: Cynic
I would like to say thanks to all those who showed up at the tea party for the people of Duluth and the surrounding area. I wish I could have been there but a doctors appointment kept me away. Hopefully there will be more and I will be there with bells on. We have a government out of control and it can only be changed by we the people.

The people who protested in Superior were said to be something like drunks who protest against detox by their elected official. It is the elected officials who are the drunks buying round after round for the whole bar with other peoples money. They cannot see straight with their lust for power and payoffs. They are drunk with their frenzy of spending funny money. They care not who they take down with them as long as they get their pay off.

Funny how the protest in Duluth took place behind the DECC where they now spending 57 million of taxpayers dollars. Watching Donny Ness and all the paid off politicians and union officials with shovels in their hands made me sick to my stomach. Hell I don't think one of them has ever worked hard enough to have a blood blister pop while working a shovel and you just keep going.

Claire claims, according to her post, that she was at the tea party taking 'panoramic pictures' at 1 PM, with a question mark in parenthesis after...

Maybe she didn't realize that the party started at 12:15. If she showed up 'around 1 PM,' it was probably closer to around 1:30 or so. Or later than that, when people were leaving because the event was over.

I suppose she figured that all those people and all the traffic must have been tourists who are so smitten with DFL Duluth. After all, it was so nice out.

The newspaper and the local TV stations took pictures, too. Claire can show her panoramic pictures to anybody she wants. It won't jive with the truth, anyway, which isn't much of a surprise....I'm pretty sure that, if she used a digital camera, the date/time are displayed.

Ya gotta figure...if they can't get the time right, they more than likely aren't very good at math, either. Numbers seem to pose a problem for the Claires, especially when they align with anything having to do with reality.

What a goofball.

Thank you.

I just returned from the Tea Party in St. Paul. 10,000 people showed up. I have video and pictures to prove the size of the crown. Incredible!! Now we just need to keep the momentum going and take our country back before we are all send the gulag for our "radical" behavior. There were no instances of violence or rage like the animals that showed up to protest the RNC. Seems we have a new breed of protestor in this country. We are intelligent, educated, and know how to behave like human beings. We haven't been seen in the past because we are busy being productive citizens. We are coming out now because we are fed up with providing for the parisites in this society that our government seems to encourage and enable. We have had enough!!

Amazing, the one beat with the "ugly stick" is even refuted by one of her own from the Progressive Action listserv.

Claire Kirch:
Did anyone venture behind the DECC to the Tea Bag Party? The DNT report has blatantly inflated the numbers. I say it looked to me from my vantage point at 1 pm?like 100 people, maybe 150 MAX. DNT is reporting 700, which is such an outrageous lie, it makes me want to puke. I took a few pics, I should send them to the DNT and ask where 600 people went. The DNT has totally sold out to its right-wing corporate owners in Fargo -- now they're falsifying crowd counts in their reporting. Shame on them.

Next post:
I think Mr. Greder the reporter must have asked organizers how many people and they told him "Oh, 700." And he BELIEVED them. I think, after zooming in on the panorama pic I took, there's more than 100 people -- maybe 200.
Definitely nothing near 700, no way.

Claire

Naomi Yaeger:
I was there taking photos. There were easily 700 people there.

Next post:
Where you there Claire????

I go to lots and lots of events.

There was almost no parking ...and it isn't even tourist season.

Pinocchio's add:
This is impressive Claire. You don't even have credibility within your circle of friends. I go back to the saying "With friends like that, who need enemies".

What a Kook.

Thanks Naomi, for at least speaking the truth, whether or not you agree with the folks who attended. I respect that A LOT more than "the one with many handles"

rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

The Tea party event today was a thing of beauty. A lot of signs and a sea of people and all I can say is that I only recognized a handful of them. The silent majority appears to be waking up.

Adam R: The Ugly Stick, aka Claire, may have a new gig going. I heard that they are planning on using Claire look alikes on the merchant ships as "Clairecrows" instead of scarecrows to keep away the fine upstanding folks she loves so much who are pirating innocent people just like their second cousins are doing right here in Duluth.

As usual, the leftist media tried all it could to diminish the size of this event both locally and throughout the country. But try as they will to silence the people, let us hope that real change is on the way. You can put all the anti war homos in this city together and all their lame events of the past several years and you still don't have the same number of people who came out today to express themselves.

Congratulations to all those who are starting to get it that the enemy is right here among us. If you don't know who they are, ask yourself how many DFL parasites you saw in the crowd. I would bet none as they are too busy on the taxpayer nipple sucking the life right out of us. Why would Donny Boy show up when he is pulling down $100,000 a year just smiling and acting like he knows what the hell is happening. It sure beats his minimum wage part time job he had though doesn't it. I can't wait to see the day when the people send the whole works of criminals down the road.

Funny how Donny Boy makes an appearance at all the BS shit like Gay Days and all those special interest events, yet where was he when people from all walks of life came out to express their displeasures with the criminals running our government? You can bet that a politician like him would change tunes in a heartbeat if the tide really starts to change and he would probably pull a Gore and take credit for organizing the event.

The tea party turnout was an unprecedented success for Duluth.

It was great to see that there are so many people in this area who are willing to take action against extortive taxation, ridiculous government spending, and debt that will strapple taxpayers for generations. There were at least 700 people there behind the DECC, and it was all accomplished via the internet, word of mouth, and a couple of blurbs on the radio.

The people are waking up. Watch out, politicians!

A buddy just phoned me and said that the Duluth Tea Party was outstanding and had a great turnout. He said that there was nothing "ugly" there so I took this to mean that Claire was a no show. Well, it sounds like she was right on about the 20 people she predicted would show up though. LOL, how many hundred were really there?

For anyone else who has been keeping up on the readings of Regressive Action and their attacks on Russ Stewart, it is all pretty sad isn't it. These clowns call Russ "mean spirited" and many other things yet not a one of them even tried to refute his math on the outrageous Obama spending. Same old lefty rhetoric with no substance, just "feelings". Why is it that Dave B, Joel, Claire, and the other 3 or 4 bozos who continually go in circles blabbing like they know everything about anything, yet in reality, know nothing?

So who was there at the Party? Thoughts?

Here you go, Claire. I don’t know if you can read or not, but here’s a link for you to try to decipher:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123975867505519363.html

Today American taxpayers in more than 300 locations in all 50 states will hold rallies -- dubbed "tea parties" -- to protest higher taxes and out-of-control government spending. There is no political party behind these rallies, no grand right-wing conspiracy, not even a 501(c) group like MoveOn.org.

So who's behind the Tax Day tea parties? Ordinary folks who are using the power of the Internet to organize. For a number of years, techno-geeks have been organizing "flash crowds" -- groups of people, coordinated by text or cellphone, who converge on a particular location and then do something silly, like the pillow fights that popped up in 50 cities earlier this month. This is part of a general phenomenon dubbed "Smart Mobs" by Howard Rheingold, author of a book by the same title, in which modern communications and social-networking technologies allow quick coordination among large numbers of people who don't know each other.

Duluth, MN 04/14/2009 11:02 AM

During the election season, the DNT was one of a handful of newspapers (I believe the exact number is 57 out of hundreds) in the entire United States of America to endorse John McCain over Barack Obama. Word is that orders came from Fargo's Forum Communications to endorse McCain -- despite Duluth being a proud Democratic stronghold, despite Obama whomping in all local opinion polls, despite it being obvious that Minny would be a blue state once again. And now the DNT has endorsed an event conceived by the extreme right wing of the Republican Party, who seemed to have no problem with the billions of dollars thrown left and right by the Bush administration -- but object to a newly-elected President who's trying to right the economy, by increasing taxes on the rich and cutting taxes for average Americans. This is something I am sure the majority of Duluthians would support. Why is the DNT once again going against the prevailing sentiments of the majority of residents of this region? Were there orders once again from Fargo to endorse the Tea Party? Why do I think the DNT is probably one of a handful of newspapers in the entire US of A to endorse an event that is so clearly meant to incite and to divide our citizenry, and seems in reality, to be an anti-Obama rally? I am increasingly embarrassed by our DNT's right-wing editorial stances, especially b/c they do not accurately reflect the opinions of most Duluthians, as can be determined by voting patterns.

It is the poor who habitually elect Democrats---yet they are still poor...
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

City writes off ‘scam artist’s’ debt
By: Brandon Stahl, Duluth News Tribune

A man described by Duluth Mayor Don Ness as a scam artist won’t have to worry about paying back the city $48,306.

The Duluth City Council voted unanimously tonight to forgive a loan the city gave in 2002 to a man who ran a business called “Connecting Point” and who promised to relocate his business to the Duluth Technology Village and add ten jobs in exchange for the money. However, shortly after getting the money, the owner of the business left town, according to the city. A collection agency was hired to find him, but the city said it was unsuccessful and recommended the write-off.

In remarks to the City Council, Ness said he spent time as a councilor trying to track the man down — he said he couldn’t remember his name — and recalls that the man also scammed Duluth residents.

“We still don’t to this day know what happened to him,” he said. “It’s a good example of the due diligence required "when giving loans
.”

DFL09, we think it's great when people of your political stripe organize and protest against whatever you think is important, and we don't care if it snows on you or not. You are exercising your right to freedom of speech, which is what we promote for everyone, not just people who think like we do. Besides, we find your antics rather amusing, for the most part, and quite enlightening to all who observe you. We love it when you feel compelled to reveal your true agendas, i.e., who you REALLY are. Comedy and tragedy are cultural cousins. You are masters in the art of parody, as you parodize yourselves better than even we can, usually. That's why a lot of people write about leftist/liberal/DFL/union stuff on this blog, without even having to make it up...it's so preponderous to witness, it's actually kind of funny.

As far as Obama's role in the pirate gig...let's say he told the Navy they couldn't fire on the dingy...what do you think would happen? The real heroes are the captain of the ship that was infected by pirates and the Navy Seals who used their great skills to wipe out the infection. Bravo!

Now I understand that the other pirates are pissed and are threatening retaliation, and I thought I heard something about how we're going to try to 'talk' with them about it.

Talk? Hah! They must be kidding. We know where most of them are based. How about we just give them the same sort of antidote that we just used to rescue the captain? We need to stop this international malignancy.

Please, DFL09, feel free to stop by the tea party. No one will mind. It's for everybody. We all could use a good laugh.

Thank you.

Spend a few weeks away and return and DFL Duluth looks more and more like a one party city where all the local crooks steal for themselves and their friends and call it justice. Did I hear correctly that Donny Boy Ness, after just over a year as the local messiah is leaving the "core neighborhood" of the hillside and moving about as far away from there as he possibly can? Not bad for a guy who never worked an honest day in his life. No wonder he is never interested in leading by example and taking a pay cut as he needs the money for the new Donny Mcmansion, which, of course he feels entitled to as a lifelong DFLer who has pledged loyalty to anything and everything DFL Duluth wants. Afterall, he can now shed his "regular Joe" image now that he has been annointed and can just say piss on those low class folk now that he is "Moving on up". I can't get the Jeffersons music out of my head when I think of Donny Boy.

Donny Boy is not alone in his pompous, arrogant, attitude toward the working people. He just feels special now that he is part of the "Good Ol' Boys DFL Duluth Mafia." How pathetic he really is though. He wants the taxpayers to pay another $100,000 a year salary for a guy to do the job that he should have been able to do in order to be qualified to run for the position he now holds thanks to DFL Duluth buying it for him. Now Duluthians have to spend $200,000 a year instead of the $100,000 that would have had to spend if Bell had been elected. Just more DFL Duluth finances. The hosing and fleecing will continue on as the country and the city crumble under piss poor politics and corruption as usual. Taxes and fees will be given out to those who remain to pay for Donny Boy and his extravagant new lifestyle as the newest local DFL chosen one. Bend Over taxpayers, Ness has something to give you.

I said it long ago and I will say it again. The wheels are coming off the cart and when they come off it ain't gonna be pretty. In the meantime, enjoy the hosing from the local DFL and when your back can no longer take being in that position, you might want to start paying attention to the change that is just beginning to come upon us. The day when the "haves", the government grubs, including politicians and the "have nots", the taxpaying citizens of every walk of life who, when they understand that they make about half the wages of those in the government are going to be pissed off big time! I just can't wait for the wheels to come off the cart. That is the only way this corrupt nation will ever be able to unravel the decades of corruption that have brought us to where we are heading.

79929 - Mon Apr 13 20:47:57 2009 - [Ralph Doty "Stop this madness"] By: I C RED PEOPLE
Ralph Doty says:

"Now, to the heart of the matter: It is time for this country to clamp down on firearms. Not hunting rifles, of course, but there is absolutely no place in a civilized society for, say, assault weapons. "

This ballass and his commentary needs comment on the blog. He needs a big dose of STFU !

Ralph Doty says: First, the obligatory disclaimer: I own a shotgun. I SAY: DOES HE KNOW HOW TO USE IT?

Second, a clarification: I shot it only twice, in 1974, and missed a partridge both times. I SAY: TYPICAL MISGUIDED LIBERAL PUTZ.

DON'T RALPH AFTER READING RALPH:

Now, to the heart of the matter: It is time for this country to clamp down on firearms. Not hunting rifles, of course, but there is absolutely no place in a civilized society for, say, assault weapons. You know, the kind of weapon that, two years ago, discharged nearly 200 rounds of ammunition at Virginia Tech within a few minutes. Twenty-seven people, mostly students, were murdered that day.

Why does the National Rifle Association insist that almost all firearms should be legal? Why did they wage a successful campaign to let the assault-weapons ban lapse a few years ago? I don’t know the answers. You’ll have to ask them, because I can’t think of one good reason.

On Monday, a Florida newspaper, in one day, carried three stories about Americans murdered by firearms that weekend, mostly by assault weapons. The victims included three police officers in Pittsburgh, 14 people in Binghamton, N.Y., and a father who killed his five children and then himself in Graham, Wash.

That’s 21 people murdered in cold blood and two suicides by cowards who committed the dastardly crimes — in less than two days. If America had lost 23 soldiers in one day in Afghanistan or Iraq, we would rise up in righteous anger. But kill 21 private citizens in the United States — folks living their own private lives — and somehow the NRA has persuaded us that death by gunfire is okay.

And puh-leeze, don’t bother me with the argument that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” It’s a bogus, specious and nonsensical argument.

Somehow, we need to stop this madness.

I SAY: DO YOU WANT PEOPLE LIKE RALPH DOTY PROTECTING YOU? I DON'T AND I WON'T!

Oh cloudy day a hundred fifty miles north of the USA. Got back Saturday DCB and it’s good to be back cleaning up some loose ends and speaking of cleaning up I’m glad to see the WIDELOAD wood pile has gone away.

I’ll be at that tea party freezing my ass off after spending the past couple of months in FLA. Help me out DCB. What hat should I wear NRA or Semper Fi? And God bless the Navy seals it made my day.

The old blogger counter is closing in on a 1,000,000 less than 9,000 away and I’m back to call out the destructive elements loitering in a once good city. From an Army wimps like one named Dave the Buzzard to Bald Headed Chicken Fockers to a wannabe sub vet named Subdude and gay -Taliban Tom is no longer MIA.

Here loud and hear me clear, my 2nd Amendment rights will never be taken away, not even here 150 miles north of the USA.

79926 - Mon Apr 13 17:10:47 2009 - [Wives night out with the DFD] By: Thanks from the DFD
Two women friends had gone for a girl's night out.

Both were faithful and loving wives, however, they had gotten over-enthusiastic on the Bacardi Breezers.

Incredibly drunk and walking home they needed to pee, so
they stopped in the cemetery.

One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she
would take off her panties and use them.

Her friend however was wearing a rather expensive pair of
panties and did not want to do that.

She was lucky enough to squat down next to a grave that had
a wreath with a ribbon on it, so she proceeded to wipe with
that.

After the girls did their business they proceeded to go
home.

The next day one of the women's husbands was concerned
that his normally sweet and Innocent wife was still in bed
hung over, so he phoned the other husband and said,
'These girl nights have got to stop! I'm starting to suspect the worst, my wife came home with no panties!!'

That's nothing' said the other husband, 'Mine came back with
a card stuck to her ass that said....
'From all of us at the Fire Station. We'll never forget you.'

DDD-122-A Conversation With Bob Hansen
This Wednesday across the nation we will be seeing Tea Parties as protests over the over-taxing that we are all continuing to be subject to. Here in Duluth we are no different. Today's show features a conversation with one of the organizers of the Duluth Tea Party, local business man Bob Hansen. We talk about the party itself, the reasons for it, and even dive into a bit Hansen's prior involvement with that local blog for "citizens". It's a good conversation and we here at Danny Does Duluth encourage all to attend this Wednesday's Tea Party behind the DECC starting at 12:15pm. For more information go to www.duluthteaparty.com

People, I don't think the "watch" *has* an agenda. I do think that it's one or two demented progressive wannabes, who know if they post tripe, the few people left who actually read the "watch" will react to it and get their organic cotton knickers all in a twist in a common hostility towards freedom of speech and the right to dissent. And then the demented progressives sit back and have a good laugh at the suckers who still don't get it: the "watch" is a joke. The most outrageous and inflammatory comments posted are made up, primarily for the enjoyment of one sad feminist , who truly gets her DELETED off by setting up her multiple personalities, making herself look like failed wannabe book pimp. It just makes me shake my head. You never know it maybe a republican plot after all.

DFL Duluth's Sister City, Vallejo, CA is one of the higest risk citys to buy a house. DFL Duluth is not far behind.

Seven of the 25 highest-risk areas--Vallejo, CA. To determine America's riskiest housing markets, Forbes teamed up with Moody's Economy.com to survey the nation's 200 largest metropolitan statistical areas, as defined by the
U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

I'm not sure DFL Duluth is in the top 200 as people have been moving out of here for about three decades.

79919 - Sun Apr 12 09:35:13 2009 - [Feeling stimulated?] By: Here is the Scoop
Baskin-Robbins Ice CreamIn honor of the 44th President of the United States,Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream has introduced a new flavor: "Barocky Road."

Barocky Road is a blend of half vanilla, half chocolate,
and surrounded by nuts and flakes.

The vanilla portion of the mix is not openly advertised and
usually denied as an ingredient.

The nuts and flakes are all very bitter and hard to swallow.

The cost is $100.00 per scoop.

When purchased it will be presented to you in a large
beautiful cone, but then the ice cream is taken away and
given to the person in line behind you.

Thus you are left with an empty wallet, no change, holding
an empty cone, with no hope of getting any ice cream.

Are you feeling stimulated?

79916 - Sat Apr 11 23:17:54 2009 - [Can't reason with the pirates] By: JBBP
The Somali pirate situation makes me feel like I could spit nails.

If we shoot at the bastards, we could kill the American captain. What could we do...

Four helicopters, each holding the end of a giant net, could fly in tandem over the dingy...then just drop it on top of them. A heavy, steel-reinforced net. With weights on its edges.

Submarines below. Boats waiting to reel the bastards in.

They are going to kill the captain, regardless. The only reason they're letting him live at the moment is because he's useful as colatteral.

We can't let these thugs get away with this. No negotiating. You can't reason with these people. Some of them have already lost their lives during similar escapades, and it doesn't seem to deter their criminal activities. They think they're heroes, much like the gangster goons infecting this nation.

They need to be shown beyond any doubt that America will crush them without hesitation. Period. That's the only type of negotiating that will be effective in preventing them from attacking American ships. They will be guaranteed to lose life, loot, and if they survive- their liberty. We need to make it so it's just not worth the risk.

America the kind, the benevolent, the understanding...absolutely. But mess with our people, and we need to become America the dangerous. Strike us, and we will, without any doubt, strike back a whole hell of alot harder than anyone else can. We will render you so afraid that you will never, ever be tempted to try it again. And then we will leave you in peace.

Yes. Peace. And we might even try to help you back up, as long as you behave nicely.

Thank you.

Cancel your credit card before you die

Now some people are really stupid!!!!
Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die.

This is so priceless, and so, so easy to see happening, customer service being what it is today.

A lady died this past January, and CITI bank billed her for February and March20for their annual service charges on her credit card, and added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0.00 when she died, but now somewhere around $60.00. A family member placed a call to CITI Bank.

Here is the exchange :

Family Member: 'I am calling to tell you she died back in January.'

CITI Bank: 'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.'

Family Member: 'Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.'

CITI Bank: 'Since it is two months past due, it already has been.'

Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?'

CITI Bank: 'Either report her account to frauds division or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!'

Family Member: 'Do you think God will be mad at her?'

CITI Bank: 'Excuse me?'

Family Member: 'Did you just get what I was telling you - the part about her being dead?'

CITI Bank : 'Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor.'

Supervisor gets on the phone:

Family Member: 'I'm calling to tell you, she died back in January with a $0 balance. '

CITI Bank: 'The account was never closed and late fees and charges still apply.'

Family Member: 'You mean you want to collect from her estate?'

CITI Bank : (Stammer) 'Are you her lawyer?'

Family Member: 'No, I'm her great nephew.' (Lawyer info was given)

CITI Bank: 'Could you fax us a certificate of death?'

Family Member: 'Sure.' (Fax number was given )

After they get the fax :

CITI Bank : 'Our system just isn't setup for death. I don't know what more I can do to help.'

Family Member: 'Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her. She won't care.'

CITI Bank: 'Well, the late fees and charges will still apply.'

(What is wrong with these people?!?)

Family Member: 'Would you like her new billing address?'

CITI Bank: 'That might help...'

Family Member: ' Odessa Memorial=2 0Cemetery , Highway 129, Plot Number 69.'

CITI Bank: 'Sir, that's a cemetery!'

Family Member: 'And what do you do with dead people on your planet???'

(Priceless!!)

You wondered why CITI Bank was going broke and needed the feds to bail them out???

Quote: "The Superior Police Department needs help to identify two suspects in the armed robbery last week of the Payday USA Loan Co., 1808 Tower Ave.

Police say the robber pointed a gun at the clerk and ordered the employee to get down on the floor during the April 3 robbery. The suspect is described as a black male with a small to medium build, wearing a dark-colored sweat jacket, blue jeans and light-colored sneakers.

With him was another black male with a small to medium build, taller than the suspect, wearing a light-colored sweat jacket with a checkered pattern. He was wearing blue jeans and dark-colored shoes.

An undetermined amount of money was taken. After the robbery the suspects are believed to have stolen the clerk’s car, located a short time later abandoned within the city. The victim was not injured during the robbery.

Anyone with any information concerning this robbery or anyone who can identify the suspects in the surveillance photo is asked to call the Superior Police Department at (715) 395-7234 or the tip line at (715) 395-7468, or simply dial 911. A cash reward is offered for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects"

What a cool story...business owners and residents on an island in Hawaii pooled their time, talent, and resources to fix a road that had been washed out. The road leads to a park which is a focal point for tourists. Without the road, several businesses wouldn't be getting enough tourist traffic to stay in business.

The state just didn't seem to have enough money in the budget to get it done, at least not now.

The work was completed in EIGHT DAYS, and they are waiting for it to be certified. The work and materials were donated by VOLUNTEERS. Had they waited for the government to take on the task, it would have taken TWO YEARS at a cost of about FOUR MILLION DOLLARS. The unemployment rate in that area is hovering around 9%, up from 2% in 2008. Being able to stay in business will probably help to keep that number at bay.

So why can't the citizens of this neck of the woods do something like that in order to fix our deplorable streets?

I think I know the answer to that one...but I'd like to hear what you have to say about it.

Thank you.

Reader's view: Democrats to blame for global economic crisis

I believe the global economic crisis is the fault of the Democratic Party of the U.S.

President Carter started the ball rolling by requiring banks to take on loans for many who could not qualify for mortgages. In the late 1980s, Clinton’s Community Investment Act forced banks under penalty of fines to make prescribed numbers of sub-prime mortgages. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, government-backed mortgage underwriters, bought the sub-prime mortgages, mixed them with a few prime mortgages and sold them on world credit markets as bundled securities.

In 2003, the Bush administration warned that Fannie Mae was in danger of collapse unless it was reined in fast. Barney Frank, ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee, said Fannie Mae was perfectly sound. Nothing was done. Subsequently, house prices fell and the whole Ponzi scheme disintegrated. The toxic securities couldn’t even be traced or priced.

The main culprits in Congress, as I see them, are Barney Frank, D-Mass., who discouraged oversight; Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., the highest paid senator associated with the AIG and CountryWide scandal; and Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who caused the run on the IndyMac Land Bank in Los Angeles. Their partners on Wall Street were Franklin Raines with a $240 million golden parachute; Tim Howard, $20 million; and Jim Johnson, $28 million. Barney Frank is still head of the Financial Services committee, doling out stimulus money to solve the crisis he helped create. Franklin Raines and Tim Howard are economic advisers to Barack Obama, and Jim Johnson served on the vice-presidential search committee.

Despite almost $2 trillion in stimulus money to date, the stock market falls steadily. It has dropped 20 percent since Obama took office and 40 percent since the Democrats took over Congress in 2006. My retirement fund also dropped
40 percent. Thanks, Democrats!

When going back in time, a few months ago, the DFD was the target at this blog.

Then, a year or so before that, Spirit Mountain Rec was the target.

It seems when some here get board picking on the DFD, let go stir up SMRA. I don't think there is a secret budget, because their budgets are the same each year. I knew of a board member who said it was boring sitting on the board for SMRA. They try new things, yet skiing is what they make cash at he said. I don't know if they have paintball still. If any of you people were around in the early 1970s, SMRA was a gift then with no one complaining. Duluth was a dead town then.

AS far as Pizza Luce is concern, I like it. I think debating and ripping on pizzas here is a waste of TIME.

I still see Dixon in town. Does this guy think when coming up with million dollar dreams?

How about CSS baseball, John would have loved this start for the Saints. GO SAINTS!

We are not alone DFL09.

Ahh, the British have such a wonderful command of the English language. I do hope so, they invented it you know? I don't know how many pages it would take one of our best Yank writers to say so much,
in so few words. Jolly good work here Mate. Enjoy!
Whether you agree with this article or not, you have to agree that it
is very cleverly written.

The Daily Mail ( UK ) wrote this editorial about Obama .
(confirmation, Google " London Daily Mail Obama's Victory")

Obama's Victory--A British view
A victory for the hysteric al Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher
Jeremiah Wright, the US mainstream media who abandoned any sense of
objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because
they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but
would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A
victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere. A victory for the cult of
the cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written
about his achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in
between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his
teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over history,
rabble-raising over reality.

A victory for Hollywood, the most dysfunctional community in the
world. Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros, Moore, and Sarandon.
Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to
independence. For those who settle for group think and herd mentality
rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to
be out of step with meager political fashion.

Victory for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have
already stated that media has to be controlled so as to be balanced,
without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement. Like
most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of the
Fox News Network and Rush Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television
stations and newspapers are drastically liberal and anti-conservative.
Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer said that just as pornography should be
censored, so should talk radio. In other words, one of the few free
and open means of popular expression may well be cornered and beaten
by bullies who even in triumph cannot tolerate any criticism and
opposition.

A victory for those who believe the state is better qualified to raise
children than the family, for those who prefer teachers' unions to
teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the West is
sufficiently weak to wards its enemies, war and terror will dissolve
as quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity.
A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to
the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity,
failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic
stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists,

I see more Brandon Stahl propaganda for the city from the April 8 DNT. He says in his article "City home sales fall, prices up" how Duluth home prices are up 9 percent. Sure they are that's why the city assessors office is dropping assessed values by 3 percent. If the prices were actually up 9 percent the city assessors office would be raising property values. Just more smoke and mirrors from the house of lies called city hall and the DNT repeaters. I can only hope our home will sell. We've now come to the conclusion that we are willing to take much less than the assessed value. The assessed value was only a pipe dream dreamed up by the city of Duluth assessors office.

President Obama is bringing the much needed change he promised. The tea party is just a bunch of pissing and moaning and should be renamed a PEE PARTY. 30 jerks pissing and moaning over change.

I'm from the Iron Range and I'm coming to the Tea Party. I've had it with my taxes going sky high and getting nothing in return. The mines up here are struggling to keep us working but we still have the "environmentalists" trying to stop every project we start. The spending in Washington is beyond imagination.. See you soon and thanks for giving me an outlet for my frustrations.

Seems that Duluth's best investigative reporter not owned by the Tourism Cartel has hit a nerve on his blog with the following story:

Spirit Mountain’s Secret Budget

Even Claire is sounding conservative on Stahlanlinski’s Buzz blog:

Council agenda time!

http://www.areavoices.com/buzz/

Claire’s Comments “OUR tax dollars” from the Buzz:

I too find the Spirit Mtn's exec director's behavior disturbing. Even though Ramos broke this story, I too would like some more information in the DNT about this. It's just no way to run a city-owned operation which is funded by OUR tax dollars.

Article from the Arizona Republic on Friday, April 3, 2009.

The solution: Patriotic Retirement
Dear President Obama,

Here is a simple solution to most of the country's problems. Vice President, Joe Biden, should be pushing patriotic retirement.
There are about 40 million people older then 50 in the workforce today. Let's pay them all $1 million severance with three stipulations:
1) They each leave their jobs immediately. Unemployment problem fixed.
2) They each must buy a new American made car. Forty million cars would be back ordered. Auto industry woes fixed.
3) they each either buy a house or pay off their mortgage. Housing crisis fixed.
4) They each invest the rest in stocks and bonds and bank savings. Wall Street and banks get good start back in business.
Overall effect-all national financial problems fixed!
Now what could be simpler and cheaper than anything you have done so far with little or no effect on the economy?

I have been blocked from PDD for posting comments that the site didn't agree with. Mostly for calling Geek Prom elitest Geekism! Then I tried to voice my honest opinion about Pizza Luce and Fitgers and then they banned my IPAddress. I just want to say that PDD is a censored Nazi site that only allows people to say things that they agree with.

I tried to post this and it was removed 10 times:
Transistor voted worst comics to ever appear in a magazine! Craig from LocalM.com was just hired to write for the mag to increase the "tool" factor.

Pizza Luce is for townies who can't afford to move to Uptown!

Fitger's has the worst wait staff in the Twin Ports. The waitresses at The Anchor Bar could serve 10 people in the time it takes a Fitger's server to serve one person.

Can you smell a bunch of lies by another politician? This writer can and you have to blind if you think things are really changing.

Bailing out favored corporations with a trillion dollars or more is today's reason you need to go green and read the LIB online for free saving money, energy and the trees.

Reader's view: Obama not fulfilling promises of change

When Barack Obama was campaigning for president, he spoke of change and a can-do attitude: change such as taking measures to end the war in Iraq reasonably soon and a White House that’s not a bedfellow with the wealthy, influential, right-wing Republican elite. He had us believe he would be a champion for the poor, the un-influential, the hardworking and the middle class.

However, if there has been much in the way of troop withdrawals from Iraq I haven’t read of it in the media. He says it will take a year and a half to withdraw American soldiers, and even then plans are to leave about 50,000 American troops behind.

America is the world’s only superpower. By a wide margin we have more battleships, aircraft carriers, helicopters, airplanes, trucks, troop carriers, etc., than any other country in the world. With a genuine can-do attitude, we could probably get every American soldier out of Iraq in a couple of weeks. And while the president talks about ending the war in Iraq but not actually doing it, he is escalating the war in Afghanistan.

Is his White House truly a champion for the poor as a change of pace? No. He gets in office and takes measures to give corporations about $1 trillion dollars — or more! This is not change but the same old story — even worse!

You know what would be a real change? Instead of giving corporations a trillion bucks, give every American $3,000 (less than a trillion) and hope for a trickle-up effect.
