Mostly trying to decide where they're meeting for happy hour.

84291 - Wed Jun 16 20:15:00 2010 - [Chamber members don't have a clue] By: John D.
It's an embarassment that David Ross receives a $179,687 salary. What the hell is wrong with us business owners. Do the chamber members have a clue? I have been part of the problem because I didn't ask the question but guaranteed I'll be part of the solution. Either Ross's salary is reduced down to the Mid 40's or he can kiss his job goodby.I about raising hell.

84290 - Wed Jun 16 20:06:15 2010 - [DFD fleecing has to stop] By: Dodge St.
Just up from the secretary's house. So far the lakeside firehall has responded to 3 emergencies this month, which is one more than at the same time last month.

3 emergeny calls in over 2 weeks. Is it worth it to pay 2 full time firefighters to staff the Lakeside station. It has cost the taxpayers almost $28,000 for the two weeks of staffing of this hall.

I'd rather see that money go to keep full-time summer staff at Portman Rec center and to reduce the city's deficit. That equals $9,333 per emergency call. The fleecing has to stop.

Hey Everybody, I know times are tough for a lot of us, but hang on. We really don't need to do a thing.

Just like you & me, all the Crooks operating the Duluth area will have their day.

There is no escaping the Universal Law of fairness and equality. I think soon that the playing field will be leveled.

Look around, no one is safe, the higher the income/status, the bigger the fall. They ripped you & me, what's left for them to feel?

Pay attention to what is happening around us, start saying your prayers and be glad that you're living here.

The ones who've been taking advantage of the hard working citizens so that they have it 'easy' will soon be like you & me. ....just trying to get by.

No one is above Gods' Law so everyone do your best to be honest and fair, the dishonesty will take you no where.

I wish no one harm but it is a natural law

The Chamber's staff and Board of Directors looks like a who's-who of progressive yuppies! One on the Board, has her loyalties strongly with the Unions, not local business.

Greater Downtown Council just seems to exist as a rubber stamp for Donny Ness?

Oh well, at least those two organizations keep the cocktail, happy-hour, hors d'oeuvres businesses busy!

Its pretty hard not to get angry at these people when you see them in the news telling us where we should shop and how our tax dollar should be spent. 84276 - Tue Jun 15 18:17:10 2010 - [Done paying for this obscene salary] By: Former Chamber Member
I posted earlier under the name of "chamber member". I have confirmed Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce President, David Ross earns just under $180,000 per year and this includes benefits.

As you can see, I have identified my self on this posting as "former Chamber member". I refuse to be part of the Chamber anymore. I risked my entire life's fortune to enter into private business and have worked very hard the last 14 years to build my business and in 2003 I drew my biggest gross income from my company which was $62,491.

And then to find out the Chamber President makes $180,000 per year is unreal. No more money from this private business owner.

Ross doesn't even risk his life every day like we do. By the way Dodge St. your still a fricken jerk with no respect.

THIS IS A MAN WHOM CRITICISES CITY EMPLOYEES COMPENSATION. SOME OF THAT CRITICISM IS WARRANTED, BUT MOST CITY EMPLOYEES MAKE $35-$40,000 A YEAR AND ARE SCRAPING BY. I WONDER IF DAVID ROSS IS SCRAPING BY ON HIS $180,000 A YEAR. UNBELIEVABLE. THEN HE HAS THE GALL TO ENCORAOUGE PEOPLE TO SHOP LOCALLY IN DULUTH. OF COURSE HE DOES, SO HE CAN LINE HIS POCKETS. I WILL NOW REFUSE TO SPEND MONEY IN DULUTH IF I DONT HAVE TO, ALL BECAUSE OF MR. ROSS, AND HIS CROOKED NONPROFIT!

I thought "well, there you go"! If we were all wondering why the Chamber has taken a sharp turn to the left, there was our answer. These dolts think Ness, who could be the poster boy for Liberalism, isn't really a liberal!!!!

Draft Dodging "Labor World" Larry knows nothing about what symbols our flag stands for because he ran from the draft during the Vietnam War. Running north and then pretending to be unstable to avoid duty is unAmerican.

The United States Flag flying high is one of the most beautiful sights you'll ever see. Those of you who served understand what that flag means. Larry didn't serve so he doesn't understand, I'm sure if he asks a Veteran of the Vietnam War they'll explain it to him.

84253 - Sun Jun 13 13:30:58 2010 - [Quit blabbing Mel and get tough on crime] By: Inside Look
I just read Mel Fords explanation of what is running through her head. Someone spiked her Koolaid and I'm afraid that she has suffered some permanent brain damage.

I wanted to touch on a couple of her statements...

M.F.- "We must find ways to keep those youth who are involved in the justice system in their own community and out of detention, whenever possible."

I have an idea how to keep them in their own communities... CUT OFF THE ENDLESS SUPPLY OF THE WELFARE TEET in this county. Most of these offenders are coming from other metropolitan cities...NOT Duluth, Proctor, Superior, or Hermantown.

M.F. - "When I was first elected, one of the most troubling statistics I encountered was the disproportionate number of youths of color in detention."

So, Mel decides to do a study to figure out why these youths are getting into trouble. Mel, why are you wasting even more of the taxpayers money? Get real! Could it be possible that the disproportionate numbers are in line with the percentage of crimes that are actually being committed by certain races or even genders? I am NOT racist, and I will not tolerate racism. I will also not tolerate REVERSE racism or someones own theory how to enact their own style of social justice. The world is a cruel place and I can say that 99% of the public really has no idea what really happens on the street. I have seen it, lived it, and sorted through it 1st hand for over 2 decades in my line of work.

What we need are more, community based police officers to become roll models, get to know residents of a certain community (especially the trouble makers), and enforce the law. We don't need another social service program, or more free government housing.

Mel, we did not just fall of the turnip wagon. Stop this nonsense and get tough on crime...for the sake and safety of the good, hardworking people of all cultures in this county.

84251 - Sun Jun 13 10:28:40 2010 - [Obama, a symptom of what ails America] By: Sad But True
This is a quote taken from a Czech Republic leader on the state of America. This quote isfrom an article appearing in the Czech Republic as published in the Prager Zeitung of April 28, 2010 .

Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic . Someone over there has it figured out. We have a lot of work to do.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president."

"The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool.. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

84249 - Sat Jun 12 18:41:36 2010 - [Right from the Horses mouth.....] By: mp
http://www.votemelanieford.com/issues.html

Melanie Ford on Melanie Ford:

Equal justice is in itself an important part of public safety. That’s because by ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and equitably—we help to ensure a level of cooperation that can only enhance the safety in our communities.

One of the most troubling statistics regarding this issue is the data that shows a disproportionate number of minorities in St. Louis County are incarcerated, including a disproportionate number of minority youths. It’s essential, therefore, that we continue to audit policies and procedures that could be contributing to this inequity, create successful reform strategies, and implement a justice system that will serve all members of the community fairly.

We must find ways to keep those youth who are involved in the justice system in their own community and out of detention, whenever possible. It’s very expensive to incarcerate people, and studies show that troubled youth who are confined only have greater problems in the future. Although there is obviously the need to detain some juveniles, we must eliminate the inappropriate or unnecessary use of secure detention.

It’s crucial, as we work to provide equal justice, that the County Attorney and staff listen to the concerns of citizens who come to the County Attorney’s office and ensure that laws are applied equally, regardless of economic status, race, or other potentially discriminatory characteristics.

http://www.votemelanieford.com/future.html

When I was first elected, one of the most troubling statistics I encountered was the disproportionate number of youths of color in detention. As a result, I established a Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) for our County, a collaborative group focused on understanding the causes of that inequity, learning how to reduce the disparity, and finding alternatives to youth detention. Our study is under way, and we expect to finish the research in 2010 and begin making the changes that will help correct this inequity.

http://www.votemelanieford.com/campupdate_10_08.html

On November 11th, my office and a number of non-profit organizations will sponsor a community event on racism, called “Time for Transformation — From the Politics of Race to the Politics of Solidarity,” as I continue to focus my efforts as St. Louis County Attorney on how we can ensure the equal treatment of every person in our county. The event will be held at Denfeld High School and will feature as speaker Victor Lewis, who plays a prominent role in the documentary film, “The Color of Fear.” My office is helping sponsor this event to help bring about a broader community dialog on the continuing challenge of racism.

Earlier this month, I called a meeting of community leaders of color, as well as legislators, educators, attorneys in the juvenile justice system, and others who have the opportunity to influence community members throughout St. Louis County. My purpose was to foster an ongoing effort to help bring about racial equality reform and reduce the disproportionate involvement of minorities in the juvenile justice system. This initial meeting was so successful, a week later we were accepted by the Annie E. Casey Foundation into their Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative Program. The foundation will now fund our activities, help coordinate our juvenile justice reform work, and help implement our goal of racial and ethnic fairness in the juvenile justice system.

84246 - Sat Jun 12 11:09:21 2010 - [Grover spit in the face of his voters] By: Can't you see the light
Funny how no one has been on here talking about the arrogance of the Duluth School District. They think they are above the law when it comes to the red plan and everything else. First the found a way to bypass an election for the referendum to fund this mess, and now they didn't even buy the land that they are bulldozing. I'm sure that they won't even get their hand slapped, just think if you or I did that on someone else's land, we'd be sued for encroachment. Mr Kutti should sue the district for encroachment. That is the school board's plan just destroy, and get the permits later. I really don't blame him for the "gesture" to tim grover. He showed restraint by just doing that. He has every right to be mad. By the way, I was a staunch supporter of Grover in the last election, because he was not a red plan supporter, or at least he said he wasn't. He spit in the face of everyone who voted for him, and the citizen's of his district by jumping in bed with Dixon and johnson controls. Can't wait until he runs for election again, and comes asking for votes. Then I will say I DON'T THINK SO TIM!!!!!

Sarah Palin is a great conservative feminist. She is the MaMa grizzly we've been looking for. She gets more influential by the day because she sticks to her conservative values and never misses an opportunity to speak about the values and intelligence that most women bring to the discussion. Women Rule and Sarah is our Leader.

Sarah Palin will destroy any liberal, progressive male both at the discussion table and in the back alley!!

The Beast from the East was shipped off to NYC a few weeks ago by the local progressives. I'm sure they're trying different strategies to shut her up. While there, she apparently got involved with an Israeli blockade protest. Go figure............Melanie Ford has never tried a case in criminal court nor has she ever charged one out. I spoke to a judge shortly after the last election about Ford and her then recently appointed chief prosecutor and campaign backer, Leslie Biers. He said neither one could litigate their way out of a paper bag.

STARFIRE: Big Iron, I'm starting to take a liking to you. Not like rusty does, but when you write with such common sense, it's tough not to like you. Keep us the good work.

The editorial today about Melanie Ford is just the tip of the Ice-Berg. What the public may not know is that she has also hired incompetent people to lead the divisions of the County Attorney's Office, and she has politicized her office to the detriment of public safety. The latest trick up her sleeve? The assumption that the reason there is a disproportionate representation of African Americans and Indians incarcerated in juvenile detention in Duluth and throughout St. Louis County is due to racism. The solution? Even out the proportionate numbers of whites and people of color in juvenile detention without doing anything to prevent the criminal behavior in the first place. How will she do this? Figure out what types of crimes and behaviors are getting many of the African American kids and Indians put into detention and then decide to not detain and perhaps not even prosecute these juveniles for these crimes. This will do nothing to advance public safety or hold these youths accountable for their actions. This type of solution only makes sense if you accept the lie that the predominate reason for the disproportionate detention of people of color is due to racism. As one who works in law enforcement, I know that this is simply not the case. Ms. Ford is advancing a dangerous and irresponsible agenda.

Reader's view: Ford’s plea agreement was far too lenient

So sad: “Duluth man sentenced for child abuse,” a May 22 News Tribune headline read. And St. Louis County Attorney Melanie Ford wants to be re-elected to head the county’s criminal department? I ask her, who speaks for our youth? As can be concluded from the article, she doesn’t.

This guy was accused of abusing a 13-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy, a 7-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. He welted them with belts or extension cords, leaving scars; one claimed he hit her on the hand with a bat! He also had a domestic-battery conviction in Illinois from 2009. And all he’s to serve is seven months at the Northeast Regional Corrections Center followed by counseling? Wow! Hurt that criminal!

My question: Why wouldn’t Ford have used all the powers of her office to send a message to those coming from out of state that Duluth and St. Louis County will not tolerate such behavior and will be tough on crime? Her office’s plea deal helped lead to a sentence that seems inappropriately lenient. That made me wonder why Ford was in charge. She abandoned the most vulnerable of our society.

Come November, I’ll remember she turned her back and doesn’t have what it takes to protect and defend.

I've also had government employees lie to me. One being an employee for an environmental protection agency. What I did was studied what would have to be done were I a licensed contractor in the disposal of a certain hazardous substance. I knew certain papers had to be sent into that agency when the substance was disposed of.

However, when I went to the agency they told me they had no records of what a certain company had done because they kept no such records. Once I pointed out the laws which indeed made it mandatory that they keep such records then they quickly swung a 180 degrees and did indeed have the records I was looking for.

What I feel happens is those in the government who are overseeing private contractors become to cozy with them and start to actual protect these contractors from the public.

In another instance I was lied to by an employee of the St Louis County Health Department in regards to private citizens installing septic systems on their own property. I found out the person was lying by studying material supplied to me by the same office this person worked in.

Do your homework. This doesn't just happen with government employees it happens with all kinds of contractors, sales people and others. We don't live in grandpa's nice country any more. A time when you could take someones word on something and that was good enough. This lying and cheating runs deep on our society today. Hey look at the gulf! Government being to cozy with big oil.

I have employed people, I see what the average college graduate has to offer, a lot of knowledge, that they are usually willing to share, much to the amusement of their fellow workers, but not a lot of experience. I took a government job because I thought I had some private experience to offer, not because I thought of the advantages. Most of you people on this site feel government workers are overpaid, unqualified, lazy, rude, etc. I would like to meet you, and see your qualifications, your experience, your common sense, your sense of loyalty, your character, I have interviewed a bumch of people and found few who had the same values, work ethic, honesty, and faithfulness to their employer that I have found with other government workers. Yes, we all are not perfect. There are a few that give us a bad name, but to put us all in the same foul group is wrong. I have seen private workers who spend time talking to others when they should be working, I have seen them steal, I have seen them slough off when they aren't being watched, I have seen them try to get their superior fired so they can take their jobs, I have seen them lie about their whereabouts when they are supposed to be working. It turns out, it is all human nature. Those of us who have found a way to rise above end up more successful than others. It is life!!!

STARFIRE: Bigfoot, this is priceless, "I have interviewed a bumch of people and found few who had the same values, work ethic, honesty, and faithfulness to their employer that I have found with other government workers." You need look no further than your government comrades on this site who constantly boast about their salaries, the hosing they give mom and pop taxpayer, their arrogance, etc. How about fire union not allowing some to volunteer. It is about greed, dishonesty, arrogance, and most of all, money. Duluth should consider a completely volunteer FD after looking at the amount it pisses away on these uneducated clowns. Only a government worker would believe your definition of a government worker. All of my associates tell me what a sluff job it is for the money, in every area of government employment.

JBBP, that was a great read, you nailed it!

Reminds me of the old guy in Ely living on beautiful two parcel lake land. One day some goverment employees approached him and asked if he wanted to sell one of the parcels. He didn't.

He was an honest man, but not street wise to certain peoples' motives. He thought the two parcels had been combined and that was the reason he was receiving only one tax statement. Not overly educated, he faithfully paid his taxes every year thinking all the time he was current with his bill.

When he received a state forfeiture notice for the prime property on the lake, he was informed he had been deliqent for over five years. He was unable to come up with the amount needed to save his land.

When he questioned why he did not received a tax statement for this parcel, he was told it didn't matter. He was responsible to pay even if he did not receive a statement. So he lost his land and guess who bought it at the state forfeiture auction?

A little birdie told me that there's lots more than meets the eye.

These hard working young people also don't pay taxes because once all their deductions are used they qualify for no income taxes or even xtra money back. They also qualify for some social programs. These are not lazy do nothing people. They work hard sometimes with multiple jobs and still cannot make it. One wonders when they are going to explode in anger. errrrr never mind I've seen some of that.

84215 - Thu Jun 10 18:52:43 2010 - [Too many people, too few jobs] By: Mr. Duluth
JBBP: So, we should pay government workers what we can? Hire someone to plow the streets only if it snows? Mow the city properties if we have the money? Okay, I can live with that. You are not a socialist at all I guess.

My point is and you hit on it JBBP, the market determines what pay should be. Yes, I did say in my original post, some city workers are over paid I feel. The government we elected, both parties for years built the system of having a big government and great paying jobs. More people employed with government jobs, the better for the government. These employees support the government on hand if employed happily. I know some of the political theorists, like James points this out. Democracy depends on a strong government, happy government workers and happy masses.

Now, with less tax dollars around and the economy at a low, elected officials like Ness-less has to make cuts or tax the people some more like you pointed out JBBP. All the people here at this blog that crack on the DFD, DPD, and the rest of the city workers show that perhaps our system is not working so well after all. Maybe even, failing? As more city workers and other government workers lose their jobs, so does the faith in our government if having a big government is key for a strong one. As more people question our government, like at this blog, maybe shows the capitalist ways of our government failed. Government got to big to support itself.

When you and Starfire talk about people not paying taxes at all and the amount of people collecting cash from the government, this show perhaps we have a population issue? Maybe we have more people than jobs? I had a friend apply for a teaching job up the North Shore. That school had over 200 people apply for the same job. Okay, so many would love to live up the shore right? That is why there were some many people applying he thought. Then he tried for a job teaching way up north some place and that school had 110 people apply. I employee temp workers each year and I have way over 100 people come out and apply. I use to get only 20 people. I am cutting it off at 100 now due to the fact I don’t have time to go through all those application. There is such a big labor pool out there, if you are an employer like me, you love it.

With such a labor pool, maybe we should finish off all city workers and put their jobs up fore hire and take lower paid people? Heck I think everyone should make what I make, only at $40,000 a year, plus benefits (two weeks paid vacation and basic medical).

STARFIRE: Mr. Duluth, great post. The universities keep pumping out graduates who are carrying tens of thousands of dollars of debt after graduation. The good job possibilities are getting fewer and fewer. Yet the universities keep pumping out the grads only because the money is in the cost of paying for the education, and not as much for what the person can find as far as employment after graduation, like it used to be. That is why we are experiencing an increase in cronyism, especially at the governmental level. Look no further than the DFD. Expect this cronyism to increase as the supply of grads increases and the supply of jobs does not. I watched last night as Spanish governmental workers were crying about a 5% cut in pay. We could easily cut 50% in the DFD pay and with their benefits and pensions, they would still be better off than 90 percent of the general population.

Mr. Duluth.

The plow driver and the lawn mower person should be paid what an individual/entity can afford to pay them. That would go for both government and private workers. Now why in the world would that be a good idea? Because, in the real world, either the worker accepts the wage that's being offered, or the worker needs to go see if they can find another place that will pay them what they think they're worth. So how can that sort of scenario even exist? Because most businesses do their best to operate within their budgets. They realize that money is indeed finite, and they won't generally promise workers pay that they know isn't likely to be there. Businesses who engage in such practices would not only be closed down, but they would also very likely be prosecuted legally, facing fines, restitution, and possibly jail time. After all, they can't arbitrarily extort extra money from people who just happen to exist in the same area as they are...but the government can and does, on a revoltingly regular basis. It simply raises taxes, levies fees, and comes up with all sorts of ways to fine us for doing or saying whatever stupid thing they think falls under the auspices of "social justice", or "human rights," or "health ordinance", or "environmental regulations," or whatever they manage to deem politically correct at the time.

I know that if I offer to pay someone to do something, and they don't think it's enough money and then don't take the job, I either have to find someone who will accept the wage, do it myself, or wait and save up enough money to attract someone to do the job. I can't send out a bill to my neighbors so that each one can contribute to whatever it is I want. And I especially can't threaten to confiscate the property of those who refuse/can't afford to contribute to my own little infrastructure. After all, I want top-notch workers, and they don't come cheap, because they deserve more than I can manage to earn myself...right?

And STARFIRE: The reason why almost half of the taxpayers wind up NOT actually paying taxes is this: the government confiscates the taxes from their paychecks all year long. Then, at tax time, it gives most if not all of it back- plus more, if you're under a certain criteria- so that the recipients can go back out, spend a few bucks, and think all is right with the world...yipee, I got my taxes! What if they got to keep that money, at least most of it, in the first place? Would they need to avail credit cards just to eat, buy socks, or put gas in the tank? Getting taxes back like that just makes it easier for the sheep to be lulled into following the shepherd...and it makes it easier for the politicians who set things up this way to get elected. It also has a nice side-benefit of preventing a revolution of people who are in reality being impoverished and oppressed by their own government. Why do you think we have all these social programs? Is it because we're so nice? Hell no. They create employment for the ones managing them while keeping the other sheep fed/cared for well enough to keep from seeing the wolf in sheep's clothing...and that wolf feeds off of everybody, taxpayer, bum, tree frog, aquarium, what have you...it ain't picky.

Thank you.

Spend $3.200,000 on 700 bicycles so people can ride a bicycle. I guess they can't buy their own bicycles. This comes to $4,571 per bicycle. But it is politically correct because they will use solar powered kiosks. It just makes you feel good all over, and feelings are the most important thing to consider when spending $$$.

Duluth man sentenced in downtown stabbing
Brandon Walter Niemi, 27, pleaded guilty last month to attempted second-degree murder and second-degree assault.
By: Mark Stodghill, Duluth News Tribune

A Duluth man who stabbed two men with a pocket knife outside a downtown bar last June was sentenced today to five years in prison.

Brandon Walter Niemi, 27, pleaded guilty last month to attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault, and in a separate case, burglary.

Judge Mark Munger sentenced Niemi to 60 months in prison on the attempted second-degree murder conviction, 45 months in prison on the second-degree assault conviction and 43 months on the burglary conviction. The sentences are to be served at the same time.

The attempted second-degree murder conviction comes from a fight June 25 outside a downtown bar. According to the criminal complaint, Niemi and another man got into a fight over a woman, and Niemi pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the other man in the left arm and cut his neck. He cut another man on the wrist.

Why doesn't the city wake up and transfer money from the DFD sleeping fund and put it into the DFL Duluth crime fighting fund at DPD? It would be a great start.

John S.,

Spare us all with the typical progressive twisting of our Judeo Christian heritage.

1 Peter 1:7 states; “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for life".

Steve O’Neill and Frank Jewel and the rest of their progressive ilk are misguided at best.

O’Neill and Jewel are socialists who are responsible for the importation of the violent gang bangers that have raped, battered and murdered many innocent people. A kid going to UMD is almost murdered on the Lakewalk. Another young man get shot in the head last year standing outside his house. Two store clerks get shot in the back at the 27th West Spur. Where the “social justice” for the victims and their families?

The problem with your type is that you use the words “social justice” to accomplish your agenda which is anything but equal to society as a whole. There’s little or no “social Justice” for the victims and families of the violent criminals who have located in Duluth.

How Christian is it to destroy the lives of millions of Americans in the name progressive destruction of a country founded on Christian principles? Obama, O’Neill, and Jewell are all of the same cloth and it’s not in the name of social justice, but you do have the “social” partly correct. It’s called SOCIALISM and it’s destroying the most benevolent economy and true provider of “social justice” in the history of mankind.

84182 - Mon Jun 7 00:47:45 2010 - [DFD still most expensive FD in USA] By: JBBP
Nice try, Mr. Duluth.

I have had government workers, performing the same job that I was doing in the private sector, laugh right out loud when comparing their wages to mine. I was asked how much I was getting paid because they thought my work was worth more than what I was being paid for. A compliment, although maybe a left-handed one.

It isn't "the road to socialism" when the taxpayers are asking for an honest statement about what government workers are being paid. When the government workers are being compensated with more money and benefits than most of the taxpayers who are paying the government workers' wages, it gets the taxpayers very pissed off. Call it fair, call it whatever you want, the fact of the matter is: it's WRONG.

Is it 'fair' that the city/state/country is going bankrupt because unions help to extort tax money for their own agenda via their hijacking of their members' common sense, which would enable these union members to do the math and figure out that the taxpayers simply cannot afford to pay them more than what most of the hapless taxpayers manage to earn for themselves? Is it fair when homes are assessed at such an artificially high market rate that the property owners can't pay the property taxes, try to sell the homes because of that, and then can't even sell these homes at the market value they are being taxed on?

This isn't about being fair. It's about right versus wrong.

It is wrong to bite the hand that feeds you. The government would not exist if not for the TAXPAYERS who pay(feed) into it. We are not tithing to some sort of quasi-church. We are paying taxes to a government that is supposed to be taking care of infrastructure, public safety, national defense, and other things that are truly NECESSARY. We are not really supposed to be paying for someone's special interests(how about the fish tank), or overinflated wages that allow folks to comfortably afford paying their union dues.

The government has squandered our money. Our elected representatives have been getting away with doing this for years. We have lost taxpayers when businesses close or choose not to locate here because of the tax rate and/or unfriendly business climate...and also because so many potential taxpayers have been killed off before they were even born. I know that some of you don't like to hear that one, but that's too bad. It's a fact- the elderly population is outpacing the birthrate. I wonder how many more people would be paying into the taxbase- today- had they been allowed to have a crack at life outside the womb?

At any rate, the 'fairness factor' does not apply to this situation. But it will...when the people finally wake up and realize that there's more to being a politician than passing a chicken ordinance or wearing a nice outfit.

Thank you.

STARFIRE: JBBP, 47% of Americans are currently paying no tax. I would be willing to bet that they vote Democrat and they vote often. 3 out of 5 people in the U.S. currently receive more in benefits from the government than they contribute. I wonder what party they belong to. A Community Organizer now sits in the White House and has spent as much in 6 months as the U.S. government did in its first 206 years. Geez, I wonder how this is going to play out. Any guesses from the DFD know it alls, who themselves have no idea that the world is not flat? Another money tree that I haven't noticed? Nope. Just mom and pop being forced to pay for ridiculous and obscene government salaries for a group of people who are, for the most part, uneducated. It is nothing other than another form of welfare. The only good part as I see it is that none of the benefit money is truly funded. I can't wait to see when the wheels start coming off the cart and the crying from the Big Irons and the Crustys start. "I have a contract, I have a contract." Too bad grubs, the game will be over.!!! LOL!!!!

I don't know as that is now written in stone or if another police chief could go back to the old days of two officers per car. Not all calls require two officers so at least some calls only take one officer out of commission and leave another one to handle other calls while the one is tied up. If you had two officers in the same squad they both would be tied up with the one call. I'm sure there are hundreds of pages of study somewhere showing the difference between one and two officer per squad and all the ramifications that go with each.

84178 - Sun Jun 6 11:07:26 2010 - [You have no control of gov. wages] By: Mr. Duluth
What is a fair wage for any job? I also include the benefits one receives in this question. Many question the city workers here at the blog and I too question some of what I hear when pay is concern. If one looks outside this agenda some here (DCB) have with the DFD and others who do work for this city and look at private companies, are these wages in line also they provide? For example, take a private contractor that perhaps does some of the same jobs a city worker may perform, what is their pay? What are their benefits? I bet if one compares, you won’t see much of a difference. To me, when people question wages of others, they sound socialist in their rhetoric. Maybe we all have a little socialist in us.

I would expect anyone running our government at any level, to have wages and benefits in line with private industry. I applied in the past for government jobs in a few fields that I have experience in and found the wages in line with private industry. When people question what one makes in the private or public sector, that becomes the road towards a socialist state with that thinking. If we question one realm of workers, can we not then question all? Maybe we should question all wages and wealth. To be honest, I have like I said above.

If anyone reads my past post, I do believe in a maximum worth one can gain in his or hers lifetime. This may sound socialist, but it is not. Huey Long set this worth back in the 1930s at 10 million. I put it at 20 million today based on the current worth we put on the products we need in life and what one could do if worth 20 million. It is not socialist for the fact we would still have a market economy, without the Trumps of this world. People that have worked towards this wealth may be more cautious with their 20 million fortunes before investing or had been to gain such a wealth. To gain ownership of a major industry worth beyond the 20 million mark, it would have to be a collective. Relax on any comments by some about my Neo-Kingfish beliefs, because this would never happen, as most know here.

So, which leads me back to my opening question; what is a fair wage for any job? I worked at a place, a small Catholic College and they had a person come in and look at all the jobs and compared pay based on the tasks. The even looked at the President of this college and his pay then. Interesting study that all the employees got to see, but many did not know what people made in certain departments I am guessing, yet rumors fly. I knew some wages of the people around me and saw many were under paid. Rumors were that some of the instructors were over paid in some studies, which made their counterparts in other studies unhappy. The college did try to bring up the pay for some according to the study from my understanding that were under paid. My point from this side story is the fact at this college, questions were raised when questioning wages which we all do.

My daddy taught me, people gain wealth using others. If one is an employer, then in order to gain wealth, keeping labor low is one key. The city of Duluth is an employer. Our city doesn’t have much wealth now and to question is okay because it is a freedom we have and perhaps some that work for our city are over paid. If we do start down this road of questioning, where does it stop? If our government did some of the changes some want here at this blog, will this thinking stop by the government then and by those in control or continue on to the private sector as well?

And then a picture of Napolean of the North pops up and its Big Iron or C, I can't tell one from the other. Man, I would hate to be as dumb as you! You and C both look like a hairy ass with a sideways smile! Ha ha ha!!!!

I saw in the DNT today the “Our view: Rejected, but let’s not get too dejected”, http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/170349/ .

Yesterday on the www.dflduluthexposed site the headline “REJECTED!”, linking to the DNT’s ”Wind turbine company rejects Northland” article. What's up with that? Is the DNT going to www.dflduluthexposed.com and fell it needed to answer with "Rejected, but let’s not get too dejected" headline? I find this coincidence very interesting and do find the dflduluthexposed.com a very in the face of the DFL website.

Does anyone know how I can contact the person that runs dflduluthexposed? I have a few more stories that would be good.

Clearly this is a racist blog. Better watch out. The FCC is watching.

http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs/document/view?id=7020450549

NHMC et al. respectfully request that the Commission grant NHMC’s Petition for Inquiry on hate speech in media, filed in January of 2009. NHMC’s Petition urges the Commission to examine the extent and effects of hate speech in media, including the likely link between hate speech and hate crimes, and to explore non-regulatory ways to counteract its negative impacts...

As outlined in NHMC’s Petition, the current media landscape is a safe-haven for hate and extremism. Many communities and individuals do not have the information they want and need to intelligently engage in our democracy...

And, an unsettling new trend has emerged on the Internet, where hate mongers can hide behind a computer screen as opposed to exposing their views in the public square, empowering them to spread lies and hate under the cloak of anonymity, and sometimes, the guise of credibility. Many web-sites and blogs are filled with the hateful messages and misinformation of anonymous posters.

Obama's Reinventing Journalism and taxing you.

http://www.ftc.gov/opp/workshops/news/jun15/docs/new-staff-discussion.pdf

Newspapers, broadcast news, and public broadcasting need $$$$. Here are the Obama's administrations proposals:

"Establish a National Fund for Local News. One report recommends that: “A national Fund for Local News should be created with money the Federal Communications Commission now collects from or could impose on telecom users, television and radio broadcast licensees, or Internet service providers and which would be administered in open competition through state Local News Fund Councils...

Establish Citizenship News Vouchers. Citizenship news vouchers would allow every American tax payer to allocate some amount of government funds to the non-profit media organization of their choice...

Allow the Small Business Administration to insure loans to fund new nonprofit journalism organizations.

Increase postal subsidies for newspapers and periodicals.

Two authors estimate that the various subsidies they propose – “postal subsidies; journalist tax credits; News AmeriCorps; student media; public media; and especially Citizenship News Vouchers – could run as high as $35 billion annually.”

Tax on broadcast spectrum. They argue “commercial radio and television broadcasters are given monopoly rights to extremely lucrative spectrum at no charge,” and this is a massive public subsidy. They therefore suggest the revenues generated by that spectrum be taxed at a rate of 7 percent, which should result in a fund of between $3 and $6 billion.

Tax on consumer electronics. A 5 percent tax on consumer electronics would generate approximately $4 billion annually.

Advertising taxes. They note a considerable amount of our broadcast spectrum has been turned over to disseminating commercial advertisements, and a 2 percent sales tax on advertising would generate approximately $5 to $6 billion annually. In addition, they suggest that changing the tax write-off of all advertising as a business expense in a single year to a write-off over a 5-year period would generate an additional $2 billion per year.

ISP-cell phone tax. They suggest consumers could pay a small tax on their monthly ISP-cell phone bills to fund content they access on their digital services. A tax of 3 percent on the monthly fees would generate $6 billion annually.

84161 - Fri Jun 4 11:55:20 2010 - [Jewell, O'Neil handouts killing the area] By: Sad but true
Thank to the likes of the Frank Jewell's and Steve O'Neil's liberal do-gooder thinking for bringing these non-taxpaying maggots to this city, this county.

It's pathetic that a young man almost gets killed and may have a permanent brain injury while bettering himself in college unlike the maggots that beat him. The same maggots that people like Jewell and O'Neil attract to Duluth.

What will the DFL Duluth Kool-Aid train do now? People know in the Twin Cities that the hotels are a huge rip-off during Grandmas Marathon. People also know that DFL Duluth isn’t safe any longer.

Will DFL Duluth do another Kool-Aid cover-up, no crime or crime committed by locals or will the O’Neil’s and Jewell’s say “NO” to more handouts? "NO" is a word that liberals don't use when it comes to protecting the people who produce for our society.

IMHO, these liberals are sucking the life out of this region and need to be replaced or it’s a matter of time until DFL Duluth becomes a mini-Detroit, empty buildings, no tax base, no new jobs, police in the schools, rising dropout rate – wait a minute this is Duluth now.

Smoke woke a man living in the home at 6309 Highland St., and he discovered a large fire burning the back half of the house. The man was able to escape without injury. Firefighters also found an unharmed dog in another part of the house.

Investigators are trying to find a cause but don't think the fire was intentional, according to Duluth Assistant Fire Chief Jim Ray.

"He was fortunate to be awaken by smoke," Ray said. "It's an older home, and with the contents, damages may exceed $100,000."

starfire, take a look at your post, dfd and dpd mentioned to political endorsements, funny how you must like who dpd likes now a get it, I thought it was about the job not politics...

MODERATOR: rusty, Starfire will be on this evening. Politics and the job are intertwined. DPD works, DFD blogs, pole dances, washes their trucks, and sleeps. Why do DPD and DFD take completely different attitudes when endorsing politicians? I will help you out. DFD supports those who support DFD extortion and theft. DFD does not care who they endorse, as long as they agree to do anything the DFD requests to get as much money from the taxpayers as they can to help themselves. DPD on the other hand, sees that DFL one party mafia bought and paid for politicians is ruining the quality of life for all the citizens. Rusty, do you think that your DFL dream team is doing a good job on it's unofficial sisters cities project with Chicago, Detroit, and Milwaukee. Do you want to takes bets on the thugs who just mugged and beat that poor guy on the lakewalk. They are more than likely the result of your DFL team. Whether imported or a product of force fed local DFL Kool Aid indoctrination. There is a saying, "Build it and they will come". And come they have.

MODERATOR: Watchdog, we are now starting to find out what happens. At over 13 TRILLION in debt, just exactly how will this debt be paid back? The U.S. is on course to implode very rapidly and Americans will have to adjust to live on a lot less than they are used to living on.

Just up from the secretary's house. As a taxpayer I not only want to know why we have 38 firefighters getting paid to sleep tonight but just today I saw two cops in a cop car. Why two of them. Are the cops fleecing us too?

The Duluth Fire Department is the most expensive fire department per capita in the entire United States, I hope the hell the cops aren't trying to imitate the DFD'ers

STARFIRE: Dodge St., one look at the political endorsements of each the DFD and DPD will tell us what we need to know. DPD deals in the real world each and every day and wants this city to get some new leadership. DFD will take any clown who they can purchase to guarantee that 38 DFD clowns will get paid to sleep tonight and scaring the public into more and more fleecing and extortion through their DFD PAC. It is pretty sad when a group of city employees with limited education create a political action committee to gouge mom and pop every chance they get. $82,000 a year to be employed as a DFDer is the definition of obscene.

You said it!

Not to mention the automatic threats, demonstrations, demands of locals to "Unionize" all of the new company's employees, that they know are looming as soon as they break ground!

Then of course we have 40+ years of DFL anti business politicans in Duluth and the Iron Range!

Rob West can spend a fortune in travel and wining and dining prospective business ventures. But as long as we have the DFL and thug union leaders in control here, it's just a big waste of time!

I can't understand how Duluth lost out again on a business venture coming to town. To a German company Duluth must look a lot and act a lot like a run down town in the former Soviet Union. DFL run, decaying, crap streets, and one party DFL mafia party in control. Politicians on the take to the highest bidder, AFSCME in this case, along with DFD PAC, formerly known as the Duluth Fire Department. Maybe the wind turbine people were impressed that Duluth has the most expensive fire department in the entire State of Minnesota and they want nothing to do with paying for that kind of ridiculous fraud. Another one bites the dust. Well, to keep DFD PAC wealthy, it looks like DFL Donny has to try to soak just a little bit more from those who haven't left yet. Good luck with that Don.

$82,000...$100,000, do I hear 125! $17,000 for a DELETED with a DELETED education? No, I don't have the wrong guy. It's all posted right alongside your pic. A google and anyone can find out what a fake/fraud you are. If I was wrong, dipshit, you wouldn't have needed to delete your job discription and employer, right loser? Pretty priceless. Strong like bull. Smart like tractor. Poor DELETED. LOL! Delete all you want, dumbass. The word is already getting out. You've attracted quite a crowd around this PC. Now we know why you couldn't be a fire fighter. That nose could never fit inside a mask.

MODERATOR: Big Iron, I understand that there is some confusion on your part regarding one of the DCB moderators. I am going to tell you only once, you are mistaken. On the next subject, DFD earns $82,000 you retard, plus obscene benefits. Thus the $100,000 package. Even a guy with minimal education like you should be able to figure that out.

That being said, how do you sleep at night knowing that many retired people are being forced out of their homes to pay for your extortion? How do you explain this to your children? No shame? STARFIRE: Dodge St. If I were you, I would keep the dog under close eye. This DFD gang will stop at nothing to keep their extortion racket in place and keep fleecing the hard working folks in Duluth. They have house payments on McMansions outside of Duluth and lots of payments for Corvettes, F250s, and other things that those that are forced to pay their obscene salaries can't afford as long as they are forced to pay for the DFDers too. Don't forget, another 38 DFDers are crawling into the sack right now on your dime.

Does Frank Jewell hate the military?

We know St. Louis County Commissioner Candidate Frank Jewell dodged the draft, and was convicted by a federal court for doing so.

He also lead the charge against the US Navy's plan to conduct a mock amphibious assault on Park Point.

The New York Times reported:
The Navy relented after a City Council member, Frank Jewell, threatened to introduce a resolution opposing the landing on the ground that it would violate local ordinances against firearms or motorized vehicles on the beach.

Why does Jewell seem so opposed to those who risk their lives to serve our country?

STARFIRE: Big Iron, I am glad that you set your sights so high and ended up as an Assclown at the DFD. It takes more than ability as a skin flutist to get a job in the real world. It also takes a brain. Bottom line dumbass, you got the wrong guy! Ha ha ha! You are the definition of dumbass! Good thing you DFD Assclowns don't have to take an IQ test. TONY: Big Iron, you are right that Duluth has a spending problem. The spenders are the politicians the ones who the DFD have managed and run campaigns for. In other words, the DFD is responsible for getting the spenders elected.

On another note, make sure you vote for yourself on the Duluth News Tabloid. To me Big Iron, you are the number 1 DFD blogger. Good luck! http://duluthnewstabloid.blogspot.com/
