More evidence that DFL Duluth is dying in the Buzz Blog's Tourists come back!
http://www.areavoices.com/buzz/
There are 20 to 22 percent drops from the prior year in tax collected. So let's build a new police station and give another $50,000 to a billion dollar train study. DFL Duluth will never get it, even when it goes broke. |

I don't know why I'm wasting my time doing this, but when I see something just so outlandishly wrong, I think it needs to be corrected. The mayor makes about $75k a year. His car is a POS 1990s Nissan. And while he parks it in the city hall garage, he pays to do that.
And he still lives in the east hillside.
What I'd like to know, Ben Dover: Is it painful being that stupid? |

Here is a link to a article about some more behind closed doors meetings and deals that are happening in DC. The unions have made a deal that says any contract done by union bargaining will be exempt from the 40% cadilac tax. Now who is going to make up that money. That was a big source of funding for the health care plan. We need to write our senators and congressman and ask them if they support this kind of action. Maybe a little shame will bring them around. I did write Ms Klobuchar(I quit calling her senator because she does not represent me) yesterday asking why she does not speak out about things like this and pointed out the letters she sent me about how “good of a person” she is and what she wanted in health care. Then I pointed out that her silence in this points out what she supports and even asked her if maybe she was bought off too. We need to let them all know that we do not support secret behind closed door government.

I'm calling the DFD "Dorks", you're just a "friend" of theirs so don't get your britches in a bundle.
I don't give a rats ass what you think.......I KNOW FOR A FACT it took 20 minutes for them to show up. After the call was made, everybody (my family and our neighbors) all wondered what the hell was taking these guys so long to show up. Remember, I said this was SEVERAL YEARS AGO so you don't need to get riled up and tell me how great these guys are and make excuses why they didn't show. It doesn't matter after all these years. You asked me why I feel the way I do towards the lazy asses and I'm telling you. It's MY personal feelings about them, not my family's. I have relatives (not in town) that are firefighters, but to me they are REAL firefighters. Not the Subway eating, stick it to the citizens, pole dance fans we have here. I respect REAL firefighters. |

82692 - Wed Jan 13 21:02:45 2010 - [Dave Ross, true leader, real change] By: Ben Dover |
It looks like the Mayor is looking for ways to cut the budget in these difficult economic times and will ask the city council for approval to cut his car allowance. He said that he will then drive his own car.
You would have to be an absolute idiot to think that this would be proposed, or even considered by our very own DFL mayor Donny Boy Ness. King of the tough decisions which include hosing retired people to pay for city street lights. Can Donny afford to keep food on the table with his $100,000 a year salary plus benefits and car allowance at the helm of running DFL Duluth even further into the ground? At least you have to give him credit for being slippery enough to make it look like he is one of the people of the Hillside as he claimed time after time during the election and once elected, he was off like a prom dress and heading anywhere but the very area he claimed to be so proud of being a citizen. What happened to Mr. Core of Duluth? What an embarrassment.
The Mayor I am referring to is Dave Ross of Superior. Dave Ross is a true leader and deserves a lot of credit for taking over the city which was once run down by another DFL Duluth parasite, Bergson, before he crossed the bridge and embarrass Duluthians. I will laugh like hell when Superior of all places takes over Duluth in all categories which are important, all while DFL Duluth and the Donny Ness and David Ross bought and paid fors keeps preaching, We're Duluth and Proud of it." All while they line their pockets at Duluth taxpayer's expense.
Ever notice how all those who are preaching how great Duluth is are making $100,000 plus a year, all paid for by the taxpayers.
All we can hope for is bankruptcy. In the meantime, spend your money online, in Superior like DFL Duluth union members, including union leadership do, or anyplace other than DFL Duluth.
The only way the DFL Duluth parasite will be finished is by starving it. That is Change we can all belive in. |

jthyme,
So because I question you and ask if it was you or someone else my free speech is returned with bad name calling. Once again since it was saturday you think they were just sitting around eating. If you knew the schedule they work you would know that Saturday is just another work day for them, like a tuesday or thursday for you and me. They train even on saturdays and sundays, imagine. And not every call that they go on is with the siren. I am not saying you are lying but did you check your watch when you called and then when they arrived or did you call and have a copy of the report to see the dispatch and the arrival times. There is alot of misinformation on the site and I am just trying to give them a fair shake before I start the slamming and name calling. |

| My experiences with DFD is completely different than Jthymes. My husband called them when I was on the floor unconcious from a diabetic low blood sugar episode. We live 3 miles from the station and 8 miles from downtown. The DFD was at our door within 5 minutes. They had me conscious and talking within just a few minutes from that time. Gold cross showed up 25 minutes after the call. In another example, the DFD showed up at my parent's place within a few minutes from my mother calling to report that my father was having a stroke. Gold cross showed up about 10-15 minutes after DFD, when they transported dad to the hospital they put an oxygen mask on him that had already been used...by someone who had puked in it. Nice. DFD has come and helped mom get dad up from the floor after he had fallen (he has problems from the stroke with walking when tired), they told her to call them before trying to do it herself because she is 77 and shouldn't be lifting him. They are very appreciated by me and my parents. |

No, they were NOT on another call and no, they were NOT training. This was on a Saturday morning. Probably during their pancake breakfast. |

So you have had to use the DFD personnally or is this a thrid party comment. From my experience calling the DFD they were their very quicky. Even though it may seem like it takes forever to get there, you have to remember that they can't respond until they are dispatched and if that takes a while it will take longer for them to get there. Do you know if they were at training, inspecting, or maybe even on another emergency where a different station from farther away had to respond. Or was it a call that may have required special equipment that is only carried on a certain truck, because they would hate to waste your money by buying more than one of them, so it had to come from a station farther away. Ohh thats right because you say that all they do is sleep or eat or waste your money then that must be what they are doing, not any of the other things I mentioned above. |

There has been many "WOWS" exclaimed during the last 35 years in Duluth. Whether Me Again means it contructively or derogatorily, is immaterial to what I was trying to say. I beleive I said "WOW" in disbelief and frustration more than weekly during the last years I owned and operated a better than a several decade old business in Duluth. Tired of just getting by while risking all plus working 12 hr. days, I tried saying more than "WOW" to the DFL braindead, head in the sand politics. Finally, "WOW", I let my feet do my last bit of talking.
Our nation could stand to learn from what has become of Duluth due to it's run away, head in the sand, greed.
The recent blog here by M says it all! Just change Obama to Fedo, Doty, Bergson, or Ness. Change presidency to mayor or city councilor. Change country to Duluth. Change the hope of undoing the damage done to IRREVOKABLE as long as the corrupt elite, braindead welfare society DFL, and unions keep buying the vote and exhausting the diminishing resources of the ever fading, only true tax revenue generating, middle class working Duluthian. All I can say is "WOW"! |

Dodge St,
Just cool your jets. You have to admit they did a good job. It was them that climbed that ladder that saved her. I don't see any of the neighbors climbing it to get her. And they needed a fire department ladder to get her down. Also where do you get the info that you present here. I find it hard to believe that they only had 16 structure fire last year in a city of 86,000. Everyone screams when someone puts something on here that doesn't make sense so I would like to know where that info came from. And what actually makes it a legitmate fire in your book? A wastebasket, a chair, a couch, a whole house, someone who gets injured or worse. Any fire where the FD is called is legit in my book. Because it could get bigger and out of control. Also there are only 36 on duty at night and they don't make the HUGE bucks like you say. Talk to one of them that is not your neighbor and see. Stop down at the station and visit I am sure they would let you in and explain what they do and who they are.
jthyme,
Even though you flip them off as you see them I bet if you were to call for help they would still show up.
Scanner Monkey X,
How come you never jump on dodge st or anyone else for not respectfully submitting their voices. Seems to me their are many others who could use it. |

We are so screwed.
WAKE UP CALL TO AMERICAN CITIZENS....
The author of the following article, Kitty Werthmann, grew up in Austria and lived through the Hitler regime both before and after WWII, and the suppression of human rights and freedom by the Nazi Party. She moved to the USA and became a citizen in 1962. She is 83 years old and lives in Pierre, South Dakota where she has written and spoken extensively about the
danger of loosing our freedoms. The following article is one of many that she has written. You can check out this info for yourself on the Internet by going to Google and searching for Kitty Werthmann.
America Truly is the Greatest Country in the World.
Don't Let Freedom Slip Away!
By: Kitty Werthmann (An Austrian who witnessed what took place
under Hitler)
What I am about to tell you is something you've probably never heard or read in history books.
I am an eyewitness to history. I can tell you that Hitler did not take Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide - 98% of the vote. I've never read that in any American
publications. Everyone thinks Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.
In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates. Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily.
Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn't want to work; there simply weren't any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a
big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people - about 30 daily.
The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other. Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna , Linz , and Graz were destroyed. The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.
We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany , where Hitler had been in power since 1933.. We had been told that they didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living. Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group -- Jewish or otherwise. We were led
to believe that everyone was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria . We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be
assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.
We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed..
After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.
Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women. Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home. An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn't support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.
Hitler Targets Education-Eliminates Religious Instruction for Children:
Our education was nationalized. I attended a very good public school.. The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler's picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class
we wouldn't pray or have religion anymore. Instead, we sang "Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles," and had physical education.
Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance.
Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum. They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time.. The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail. The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination. The rest of the day we had
sports. As time went along, we loved it. Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free. We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.
My mother was very unhappy. When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent. I told her she couldn't do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful. There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun - no sports, and no
political indoctrination. I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate
it. Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home. I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing. Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me. They lived without religion. By that time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler. It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly. As time went along,
I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn't exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.
Equal Rights Hits Home:
In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established. All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps. At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn't work, you didn't get a ration card, and if you didn't have a card, you starved to
death. Women who stayed home to raise their families didn't have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.
Soon after this, the draft was implemented. It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps.
During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys. They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps. After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines.
When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat. Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack. I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.
Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare:
When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers. You could take your
children ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a week, under the total care of the government. The state raised a whole generation of children. There were no motherly women to take care of
the children, just people highly trained in child psychology. By this time, no one talked about equal rights. We knew we had been had.
Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls:
Before Hitler, we had very good medical care. Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna .. After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone. Doctors were salaried by the government.
The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything. When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full. If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn.
There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine.
Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries.
As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income.
Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household. We had big programs for families. All day care and education were free. High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized. Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as
food stamps, clothing, and housing.
We had another agency designed to monitor business. My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables. Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners. Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar. He
couldn't meet all the demands. Soon, he went out of business. If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be
in control.
We had consumer protection. We were told how to shop and what to buy. Free enterprise was essentially abolished. We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers. The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, and then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to
produce it.
"Mercy Killing" Redefined:
In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps . The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated. So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded. When I arrived, I was told
there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work.. I knew one, named Vincent, very well. He was a janitor of the school. One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van. I asked my superior where they were going. She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade,
and to read and write. The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months. They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.
As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death. The villagers were not fooled. We suspected what was happening. Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months. We called this euthanasia.
The Final Steps - Gun Laws:
Next came gun registration. People were getting injured by guns. Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in
their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.
No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away. We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.
Totalitarianism didn't come quickly; it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria. Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath. Instead, we had creeping gradualism. Now, our only weapons were broom handles. The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom..
After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria. Women were raped, preteen to elderly. The press never wrote about this either When the Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling whole factories in the process. They sawed down whole orchards of fruit, and what they couldn't destroy, they burned. We called it The Burned Earth. Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses. Women hid in their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized. Those who couldn't; paid the price. There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women who were massacred by the Russians. This is an eye witness
account.
"It's true..those of us who sailed past the Statue of Liberty came to a country of unbelievable freedom and opportunity.
America Truly is the Greatest Country in the World.
Don't Let Freedom Slip Away.
"After America, there is No Place else to Go!"

82676 - Tue Jan 12 14:29:37 2010 - [DFL Duluth highest sales tax in MN] By: Dave |
Read the Buzz Blog on DNT online today. Duluth has the highest sales tax in the state.
These additional taxes increase the total general sales tax rates to 7.875% in Duluth, 7.775% in Minneapolis, 7.625% in Saint Paul, and 7.375% in Rochester.
In addition to general sales taxes, local units of government can, again with legislative approval, impose sales taxes on certain items. Current local option taxes include a "lodging" tax in Duluth (3%), Minneapolis (3%), and Rochester (4%), as well as served "food and beverage" tax in Duluth (2.25%).
Alcohol is taxed at an additional 2.5% gross receipts tax rate above the statewide 6.875% sales tax rate, for a total rate of 9.375%, not including any applicable local taxes.
Notes:
- Keep in mind that the City of Duluth is the only city in the State of Minnesota who is authorized to collect a “local option sales tax” (1%) that flows directly into the city’s General Fund, and is “unrestricted”. I don’t believe there is a “sunset date” on this “local option sales tax” so it would carry on into perpetuity unless some action is taken to eliminate it.
- Anticipated collections of the “local option sales tax” for the City of Duluth are $10.3 million in 2010, as compared to TOTAL property taxes of $10.3 million (includes $9.1 million in “current” property taxes)for the 2010 budget year.
Last one please shut off the light. Oh wait....It already be shut off. |

Just up from the secretary's house. To Mr. Pro-DFD, your post was unbelievable! I can't even begin to think you wrote that post sober. If you were sober writing that post than you have major mental health problems.
You and the DFD are fleecing the taxpayers. You had 16 legitimate structure fires last year and you think we need to continue operations of the fire department as is. The reason you want to take over the ambulance service is you and your union buddies are feeling the heat of the taxpaying public.
You realize you don't have much time because we are figuring you guys out. You have to literally buy the city council to keep your jobs. Even you know there is a better and more efficient way to operate rather than having 39 of you guys sleeping tonight. The joke is on the taxpayers if we don't force you to change. |

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a

much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, a fool. It is less likely
to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

Pro-DFD, volunteer firefighters who spend their watch in the fire hall could have been there just as fast. Other than that thanks DFD for a good job. Thanks to the neighbors for having that 5 dollar ladder set up that initially was used to get the woman out the window according to Jim Ray assistant chief. Also like the assistant chief said "Despite all of the high-end equipment we have, a good old ground ladder is probably responsible for more rescues than anything else"
Why do I have the feeling that if DFD was to scab their way into Gold Cross jobs that the taxpayers would again be buying some of the most expensive "high-end" equipment in the state. |

| Pro DFD, this is exactly why you keep puting yourselves out to take crap from this blog.I would suggest you just do your job and stop prompting others to argue with you. Yes you did save the woman nobody questioned that but you had to bring it up, so in that case I would like to know how the structure is? Oh wait a minute let me guess.. A total loss I bet another foundation left with a burned out structure for demolition!! Keep up the good work, See if you would've kept yourself from posting here no-one would give you crap.. But like always you have nothing better to do on your off time or on the city's time as well. Someone should have a study done to see what the ratio of fires in the city is compared to the wages we are paying for the firemen. I bet we would find out we are paying huge $$$ for out Fire Dept. to save our basements. Speaking of Pro DFD and DFL 10 tell me the last structure that was not totally destroyed? |

I agree that Duluth needs a full time fire department for the number of calls they respond to. But you will not convince some of the people no matter how hard you try. They only look at the money end of things, not what is best for the citizens or the city. They say that the fire prevention is doing such a good job that the full time crews are not needed. So does that mean when crime goes down we don't need the police and should lay some of them off? Sounds like people have learned their lesson and have promised to be good. Maybe have some of the volunteers to handle the crimes and law breaking. Almost half of the calls that the DFD go on are not medical, but fire or rescue related, not 98% medical as previously stated. You don't hear about the smaller fires or rescues, just like the lesser crimes, because they are just that, smaller, and not news worthy. The call the other night, where a dramatic rescue is made is not the usual, so pro dfd don't stand on your soap box too high. However they do risk their lives and save a ton of property damage from fire and water damage. Don't get me wrong I think the rescue was great but the bottom line is that they are their for us and they did a fantastic job as usual. When they or the police get cut the only thing that gets hurt is us in that they are not their for us. Great job DFD and DPD keep up the good work. |

DFD did have a good save yesterday and the crews involved deserve a job well done. That being said people are entitled to voice there opinions in a respectful manner something you seem incapable of doing. |

After listening to DFL Donny Boy Ness rave on about the wonderful state of dying DFL Duluth, I couldn't help laugh at some of his choice of words for his BS DFL agenda.
He likes to say, "invest", which in the real world means tax those who are already being taxed to death.
He likes to say that he has made, "tough choices", which in the real world really means increasing taxes and fees on those who are already struggling to pay for the DFL elitists, their salaries and benefits that are ever increasing while ordinary people suffer and struggle to pay for it all. Take a look at your Comfort Systems bill and once you understnd it, the DFL rip off should become clear. It is pretty sad when a mayor makes what he calls a "tough choice" and forces account holders and extorts money from the homeowners to pay for the cities light bill. Hey DFL Donny, where does the property tax money go, only to DFL salaries, benefits, and pensions?
He also likes to say that he wants the State of MN to "partner" with Duluth. In DFL Duluth coming from Donny Boiy Ness this means you pay, we spend. This in the real world means Donny Boy Ness wants other thriving parts of the State of Minnesota to pay for the bills he and his gang of DFL Ass clowns have strapped the taxpayers who remain in Duluth with.
What other DFL twisted terminology are they using to try to buffalo the public into believing their DFL bull as they continue to line their own pockets at the fewer and fewer people who actually pay the bills expense? |

This is the reason the citizens of Duluth need a full-time professional fire department. The Duluth Fire Department is professional and ready at a moments notice to risk their lives to save anothers. Another SAVE by us. This would not have happened if Duluth was served by volunteers.

Ralph Doty: Three school board members could ruin everything
Dear anti-Red Plan School Board members: If your behavior last Tuesday continues in future meetings, you won’t accomplish anything positive.
By: Ralph Doty, Budgeteer News
For 13 wonderful and memorable years, I was a student in Duluth’s public schools. My formal education began with seven years at Emerson grade school at 11th Avenue West and Third Street, continued for three years at Washington Junior High and concluded at the old Central High School. These days, none of those buildings are serving as schools.
After my college studies, I taught for a semester at West Junior High School on Central Avenue (now part of an expanded Laura MacArthur Elementary School), and one year at Woodland Junior High (now a middle school). Then, I returned to college to take a doctorate from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
I give you this personal information for a reason: Now that the school board has three anti-Red Plan members — on Tuesday, newcomers Tom Kasper and Art Johnston joined the carping and constantly negative incumbent Gary “Dr. No” Glass — I fear for what could happen to my cherished Duluth schools if these three politicians get their way.
Regular readers of this column will recall that initially I did not like the Red Plan.
Early in the study and selection process, I wrote that I hoped the district would adopt the so-called Blue Plan, which called for one high school, presumably at the current Central High School location. However, once the decision was made to go with two high schools and extensively remodel, expand, close or add schools, I supported the board’s decision.
Before construction work got under way, there was only one word to perfectly describe most of our school buildings: crummy. But now it appears that Johnston, Kasper and Glass are determined to make life as miserable as possible for Superintendent Keith Dixon and the four backers of the Red Plan on the board.
I have absolutely no problem with school board members who ask questions and offer reasonable and constructive educational changes. That is, after all, their duty.
However, the dilatory tactics of Johnston, Kasper and Glass are less than responsible. They apparently want their pound of flesh, and that’s outrageous. Their tactics run the risk of destroying all that has been accomplished so far.
For instance, Johnston came to Tuesday’s annual organizational meeting — during which only assignments and officer elections traditionally take place — with a copy of “Robert’s Rules of Order,” filled with dog-eared bookmarks. He could tie school board proceedings in knots — if he wishes to — by issuing parliamentary challenges on very technical matters. The Kindle version of the complete “Robert’s Rules of Order” is 208 pages long; large enough to make it impossible to govern, if that’s Johnston’s goal.
In the Minnesota Senate (where I served for two terms) the rules of order were rarely called into play. Indeed, I can count on both hands the number of times during my service as a lawmaker that a senator challenged a proceeding by invoking a technical “Robert’s Rule.”
So, here’s some advice for Johnston, Kasper and Glass from a person who served public education in the Minnesota Department of Education, as a junior high teacher in Duluth, a college professor at the College of St. Scholastica and a community college president in Minnesota, Missouri and Ohio for 24 years: Please work on behalf of our children and forget about getting revenge. If your behavior last Tuesday continues in future meetings, you won’t accomplish anything positive.
And you could destroy much of what’s been accomplished during the past decade.
Ralph Doty’s “Radio Memories” program is heard every Thursday at 7 p.m. on KUWS-FM 91.3. Contact him at rdoty71963@aol.com.

While Me Again tries in depth to disprove the affects and effects of DFL partisanship politics in Duluth, things like federal funded kickback ethanol legislation of the Clinton era, that cost Minnesotans millions in vehicle repairs, caused vehicle manufacturing costs to grow, raised food costs, has low energy yield, and it's silenced MPCA recognized deterimental enviromental cost, still remains a mystery to DNT readers. Very simply, like with AFSCME, and a non-contracted, multi million dollar, tax payer owned, eminent domain, fiscal failure hospital parking ramp, we don't read the honest bottom line about things in DFL Duluth that cost more than it's worth and who voted for it. Bush, Cheney, and Haliburton were as much a product of partisan fiscal control as ethanol under Clinton, Mn. DFL legislators, and Archer Daniels Midland. Why is it we hear about the Bush folks, still?
Fargo North Dakota economics are a lesson in free capitolism that Duluth good-old-boy, mafia, Pre Berlin Wall Soviet type socialism controled economics won't allow. Long ago in Duluth the fiscally elite knew unchallengable control was sustainable only by letting braindead unaccountable greedy partisan politics and economics, like that of the DFL, too vote itself largness here. The elite could care less about the backbone, small business, crushing DFL liberally unproductive taxes or fees and union support as they get huge economic shelter plus wealth from their control of TIF's, DEDA, a national record sized low income work force, earmarked gov't funding, ability to buy up the planned failed City at dime on the dollar, and to politically avoid paying their fair share. Proof of this is in every Duluth economic indicator. Even deep rooted liberals, like the silenced Ex City Councilor Russ Stewart, know whats really wrong with Duluth.
The DFL was once the protecting party of the "PEOPLE." Obamas, most expensive, redistribution policy, change, presidential campaign, logically couldn't possibly have raised that kind of money to buy the White House for the "PEOPLE." It bought it for the billions of dollars in unaccountable bailouts the "PEOPLE" will see more bankruptcy than redistribution from. It bought it to control auto manufacturing where the "PEOPLE" can pay for but can't afford to use "cash for clunkers" programs. It bought it to insure unemployment and gov't dependency. It bought it to control the nations health care industry percentage of the economy. It bought it to cap and trade away any independent competative energy market. It Frankinly bought it for radical, eliteist, tax evading, greed laiden corporations, czars, and legislators, not the "PEOPLE." It bought it to close millions of acres of public land to the "PEOPLE" and monopolize it's use by gov't too corporate desire. It bought it to legislate 15% ethanol instead of 10%, and like DFL green team global warming, it has nothing to do with the "PEOPLES" cost today or a viable solution for the "PEOPLES" transporation or environmental needs tomorrow! How easily we forget the unaccountability by politicians like Ness, Reinert, Gilbert, Huntley, Murphy, Jaros, Obestar, Frankin, Obama, and Netland, to name a few, who in a real life world of "PEOPLE" daily economics would have had to be fired in order to survive, but instead are DNT ostrich politically protected while they are allowed to cheat the very life out of, a once time proven most successful measure in our country, Biblically based traditions of civic honesty. With the blessing of the elite, majority DFL Duluth politicians have used peoples lazy"NESS", and selfish"NESS" to build and buy the vote away from City success and the use of common sense.
Duluth's Downtown Water Front District Green Team can scrub all they want, but the writting on the walls of Duluth history keeps growing, it's the DFL Part-In-Sand, not DFL Partisan that's wrong here. |

This assumes however that we have honest elections in those years. After seeing Senator "Al Franken" sworn in, can we be assured of that? Here's an article that paints a pretty scary picture.

Truthism, thanks for the answers you offered. Maybe now you can offer some substantiation.
Can a reasonable person infer from your responses that the DFL does not want new business and investment in Duluth? If so the voters should be to blame for placing the DFL candidates in office. Why do you suppose the DFL candidates were elected? Do you suppose the voters wanted all this negative, nearly unprecendented stuff? Maybe the opponents of the DFL candidates did not know how to campaign?
You posted "Advertisers in a good business climate have much money to spend and see much greater results from their expenditure." Print and broadcast media revenues nationwide have been slipping for years...irrespective of politics and partisanship.
Please understand I am not trying to make this partisan, just pointing out some observations.
If you feel the union mentality of "us vs them" is exclusive to Duluth, I would have to question your reasoning. Unions have been pricing themselves into irrelevance nationwide for years. It is not a partisan thing, rather it's the strength in numbers of the union rank and file, and now it is backfiring. Surely you do not think all union members are Democrat. Unions are going by the wayside everywhere, sometimes at the members' behest.
I was in Fargo recently and viewed the Forum rag there a few times...it did indeed look healthier than the DNT. I do not know if they have tightened the proverbial belt there or not. As far as you saying, "...you don't see the DNT's parent company Forum Communications laying off people left and right in Fargo," I can't speak to that, so you are correct that I don't see that. If the DNT had not published the info about Rob Karwath and Tim McLoughlin, most of us would not have known.
There has been a lot of downsizing and labor reductions across the the commercial and industrial spectrum that we don't know about, none of which, in my humble opinion has anything to do with politics or party affiliation. A lot of it has to due with greed and poor management. I could offer first hand information about suspect decision making by my former employer, but it does not matter.
The nation is in a world of hurt, certainly it can't all be blamed on politics, especially considering some of the arguably poor decisions made by the Bush administration, and again, greed.
I am glad you weren't a total omniscient jerk in your response. You present some information that makes me wonder how you know this stuff, but I do not plan to research real far to try to disprove what you have written.
What you have written could very well all be true, but I maintain too much blame is placed on the DFL.
Do you think everything in Duluth would be rosy if Republicans were elected?
I have stated many times that a blog like this can be entertaining and very informative, promoting real dialog, if some of the narrow-minded, mean bullshit is left at home. These are all just my opinions of course. Thank you. |

Me Again,
Thank you for the good question. I’ll try to not be too rough on another Kool-Aid addicted liberal.Addictions can put one’s mind to waste and a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
The one and only political party in Duluth, the DFL is responsible for the terrible business climate and reputation as a difficult place to conduct business and invest private money.
Advertisers in a good business climate have much money to spend and see much greater results from their expenditure. This is not the case in DFL Duluth.
The DFL is also responsible for a poverty rate over twice that of the rest of the state, a dominate union us vs. them reputation keeping new private investment dollar out, new construction costs 24% higher than other growing upper Mid-West cities, a decline population from numerous working class jobs eliminations, and the highest unemployment rate of Minnesota metro cities for starters. I’m sure others can add to the list of DFL accomplishments.
DFL Duluth reminds me of the Three Dog Night tune, One is the Loneliest Number. The DFL gets all the credit good or bad.
In closing, you don't see the DNT's parent company Forum Communications laying off people left and right in Fargo. Of Forum’s 8 news organizations, only the DNT in DFL Duluth is union and not many would be surprised that Forum regrets spending $81 million dollars in DFL Duluth, let alone 81 cents.
Have a nice night.

| The DNT is dying like most other liberally biased media outlets in this country. DNT faces several challenges in this area. First of all the population is this area is stagnant thanks to DFL control. People have less discretionary funds for expenditures such as newspaper subscriptions. We are increasingly choosing alternative sources of media for news and topical information. DCB is an excellent example. The DCB has no doubt taken large share of readership away from the DNT. Why pay when you can get news for free from the DCB and Duluth News Tabloid. |

82645 - Fri Jan 8 23:13:01 2010 - [Washington and Buscaglia same flock] By: Birds of the Letter |
| Robin Washington deserves to ride the DNT express into the daily news publishing sunset in Duluth. The ever thinning paper and it's failing budget resemble exactly the City Washington has helped create with his lying, DFL protecting, smokescreens. His credibility is right up there with the false Peruvian Degreed Marti Buscaglias. |

Come on everyone, surely the DFD has been holding the ladder, at least.
Look at those fancy, detailed titles being put up on the 'sally port'off of 2nd Street. It takes a special breed to determine what Duluth 'needs.'
Plus, Duluth has all those tough 'big' guys who are being paid BIG BUCKS working for the DFD! They can hold the ladder better than anyone else, while we decorate the entry way for prisoners. |

This is DFL Duluth! The question is WHO'S NEXT?
News Tribune announces restructuring
- 01/08/2010
Duluth News Tribune Executive Editor Rob Karwath and Circulation Manager Tim McLoughlin were laid off this morning, the company announced. News Tribune Publisher Ken Browall released the following statement: "Effective today the company has restructured management within the Editorial and Circulation Departments, resulting in the elimination of two management positions at the News Tribune. Executive Editor Rob Karwath and Circulation Manager Tim McLoughlin have been laid off. Both of these individuals have made significant contributions to the News Tribune during their careers. These were difficult business decisions. I will miss Rob and Tim both personally and professionally." Robin Washington, who served as the News Tribune's news director, will be the company's editor, Browall said in the statement.

82637 - Fri Jan 8 16:19:33 2010 - [A true Duluthian wouldn't "DONNY DULUTH"] By: Business in the Briefs |
What are the chances "Duluthians", despite B.S. fests like the State of the City address, may wise up enough to realize Don Ness couldn't fix all the problems he has been, in large, a part of creating or sustaining? The term "Duluthians" applies to those who have lived here more than two years and have actually supported themselves without ANY of the "DONNY DULUTH" DFL Dependency Dopi"NESS." A true "Duluthian" would not "DONNY DULUTH" abuse DEDA, TIF's, and "greater" business organizations, for corrupt selfish gain while their City continues to fall further into national record holding poverty! A true "Duluthian" wouldn't "DONNY DULUTH" hide behind greed inspired union contracts and politics when he or she wasn't truly striving to make the City a better place to live for all!!! A true "Duluthian" wouldn't "DONNY DULUTH" promote or ignore a school district where the administrations selfish greed exceeds the student need!
Kind of scary here as there may now be more "DONNY DULUTH DOING AWAY WITH DULUTHIANS" than "DULUTHIANS DOING AWAY WITH DONNY DULUTH!!!!!" |

82636 - Fri Jan 8 08:48:32 2010 - [Each night we pay for 39 DFDers to sleep] By: Taxpayer |
98% of all DFD calls are for medicals. No wonder why they want to take over the ambulance service...to save their jobs. Building codes and education has resulted in the reduction of structure fires. Not much need for a full-time fire department in Duluth anymore.

You know you're in Duluth when you turn on the local news and the first 3 stories are some group striking, 6 Chicago bros busted dealing meth in the Hillside and some clown busted for sexual assault.
Donny Boy Ness should end State of the City speeches which would save us all a lot of money and we would all get the truth at the same time instead of having to use several barf bags if we happen to tune in to hear his bull. Just turn on the news and learn the true "State" of the city.
How much will the population drop in the census? As hard as the Duluth Regime is trying to transplant other non productives to Duluth, those who were productive are voting with their feet and moving out.
Thanks DFL.
BTW, How did Bergson's dream of ending homelessness by getting the city into the housing business work out? Is homelessness now gone because of his plan to end it by 2010?
These DFL ass clowns are too much! |

Duluth's unemployment rate went up once again. Duluth now has the highest unemployment rate in the State of Minnesota of the metropolitan cities.
Why did DFL Mayor Ness fail to mention this? What a pathetic mayor.
TONY R: Karen, What can the local DFL leadership claim as even 1 accomplishment in the past 40 years? DFL Duluth is a leader in all the areas that are not good to be a leader in. Unemployment, poverty, most expensive fire department in not just MN, but USA, low wages, rapidly rising crime rate, etc, etc, etc. Mayor Ness is just another DFL mouthpiece trying to cover up the truth. |

Surprise - Surprise - Surprise Who could have guessed? The DFL bloodsuckers are hard at work. At a time when people need lower income taxes to buy such silly things as food or pay the ever increasing utility bills.
From the Duluth News Tribune - "The four DFL legislators, including Roger Reinert, Tom Huntley and Yvonne Prettner Solon, seemed to favor income-tax increases. But that drew scorn from Charles Bernick, the owner of Bernick’s beverages and vending. He said Minnesota has the highest taxes of the nine states in which his company does business." |

82612 - Tue Jan 5 21:21:37 2010 - [GET Tax has support-(Govt. Emp. Tax)] By: Ben Dover |
Taxman: I can just imagine how the DFL Duluth team of grubs is preparing for their annual begging in St. Paul. They head South with a crying towel over each shoulder and plenty of dry ones in their suitcases. I heard that Donny Boy Ness did what we all knew he would do last night and paint a wonderful picture of all things Duluth. I heard some clown talk about bringing jobs to Duluth. What a joke. The population has been droppping for years and with the DFL Duluth team at the helm, nobody in their right mind would come to Duluth. I noticed that the fire chief got a nice seat at last night's Ness rally. What do you expect for the head of the special interest group that played a key role in the purchase of the mayor's seat and the majority of the city clowncil seats?
I have heard some rumblings about that tax on government employees too and I think it is a great idea. I think it is extremely fair as it would apply to all the government employees, not just certain groups. Give those ass clowns some of their own medicine. When money gets even tighter this tax is actually a very real possibility. Politicians will always find where the money is and take it. This would be a great source of DFL "revenue" and would help pay a lot of the bills coming due without further harming the private sector workers and the unions wouldn't be able to cry about union busting. I can't wait to hear the DFL crying!!!
This idea definitely needs to be pursued. I can't wait to see how long it takes for DFLers to throw the government workers under the bus to save their own asses.
In the meantime, be sure to spend your money anywhere but Duluth and starve these DFL thieves. Do as they do, not as they say and spend your money online or in Hermantown or Superior like Lori Johnson and Ken Leffler Kemp, both AFSCME extortionists. |

Rocket Launcher Found In Apartment
No Charges Filed
POSTED: Thursday, December 31, 2009
UPDATED: 9:09 am CST December 31, 2009
HOUSTON -- Police went to a southwest Houston apartment to break up a disturbance but ended up finding something else, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday
A woman called police on Monday and said a man was forcing his way into her apartment in the 5300 block of Elm Street.
When officers went inside, they found something that made them concerned enough to call the bomb squad.
They found an AT-4 shoulder-mounted rocket launcher. It can shoot a missile nearly 1,000 feet through buildings and tanks.
"It gives infantrymen the advantage with an ultra-light weapon that can stop vehicles, armored vehicles as well as main battle tanks and fortifications," said Oscar Saldivar of Top Brass Military and Tactical on the North Freeway.
That type of rocket launcher has been used in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The renter of the apartment didn't want to talk to KPRC Local 2.
"This is my house," the woman said. " Get away from here. I don't want to talk to nobody."
The woman did tell police that the rocket launcher belonged to Nabilaye I. Yansane, someone whom she allowed to store items at her apartment.
Police records show that she didn't want Yansane at her apartment, so she called them.
According to court documents, officers also found Jihadist writings that allegedly belonged to Yansane. The woman didn't want to talk to KPRC Local 2 about that, either.
"I don't know," she said. "You'll have to ask the police."
Yansane was charged with criminal trespassing and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to three days in jail, which he has already served. No charges related to the rocket launcher or writings were filed.
"Other people could have had access to the apartment, so maybe if a rocket launcher was located there, as is stated in the offense report, maybe it belonged to somebody else," attorney Garl Polland said.
Prosecutors said there are no state charges for having the unarmed launcher or possessing Jihadist writings, unless they contain some type of threat.
The former director of Houston's FBI office said rocket launchers can be dangerous if they're in the wrong hands.
"I don't know any other use for those weapons except in combat," Don Clark said. "I've had them in combat, used them in combat. That's what they are used for."
Houston police said they did a thorough investigation and did not find any ties to terrorists or a terrorist network.

Diversity Visa lottery.
"...Applicants registered for the DV-2010 program were selected at random from over 13.6 million qualified entries received during the 60 day application period that ran from noon on October 2, 2008, until noon, December 1, 2008..."
Winning Visa lottery winners include 4,201 from Egypt, 152 from Libya, 1,084 from Sudan, 345 from Afghanistan, 2,773 from Iran, 142 from Iraq, 104 from Saudi Arabia, 98 from Syria, and 72 from Yemen.
On page 36 of the Department of Homeland Security Annual Performance Report, catching about 25% of high risk travelers to the USA is considered "successful."
www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/cfo_apr_fy2008.pdf
..Improve the targeting, screening, and apprehension of high-risk international cargo and travelers to prevent terrorist attacks, while providing processes to facilitate the flow of safe and legitimate trade and travel...
In 2008 the target was to have a 41% airline passenger apprehension rate for major violaters. The actual apprehension rate of major airline passenger violations was 25%. So to correct this problem in 2009 and 2010 the new Department of Homeland Security goal will be to be have a success rate of 25% and 26%.

82609 - Tue Jan 5 18:32:40 2010 - [A new tax we can all believe in?] By: Taxman |
The embarrasing DFL delegation of CPNEM(Communist Party of Northeastern Minnesota) is getting ready for DFL "Begging Days" in St. Paul. I almost lost it when Solon claimed that there is a DFL pipe dream of $3,000,000,000 in handouts and only $1,000,000,000 available. What's a DFLer to do???
It must be tough being a DFL parasite these days. It's going to get a lot tougher Yvonne and Co.
I must admit that I am getting rather excited to watch the showdown between our Governor and the DFL Parasite Team of Legislators. I can't wait until they get in the ring together!
The only good news is that I understand that there is back room talk about a possible tax on government employees on the way. It is meant to equalize the ever growing discrepancy between the private sector and the government sector employees. They can keep their AFSCME clowns as their union and pay the piper at tax time. They will have the opportunity to practice what they preach and help solve our current fiscal problems. They will know how retired people feel when they are forced to pay for the DFL's outrageous salaries and benefits. I can't wait to see how Mayor Ness and the DFL team explain how they can screw the taxpayers more every chance they get and not support this new tax that will be in direct conflict with AFSCME and DFL and DFDPAC, the very mafia groups that bought and paid for the DFL gang of thugs and extortionists.
It is a win win for all. If government employees don't like the new tax, they can quit and join the millions of unemployed.
Now that is change we can all believe in. |

When Ford was discussing with her friends as to whether she should run for County Attorney, one of her big claims was that the Duluth Police & County Sheriff deputies target minorities and that's why so many of them get arrested! Really, that's how this woman thinks! Not that they are commiting so many of the crimes!
So, what has happened? Is her department simply getting them off of the charges filed against them,(minorities) or have the police been pressured to look the other way, or is this some phony P.R. scam?? |

Change u can believe in!
"Gas prices up $1 over a year ago"
"While we were running around, Christmas shopping and enjoying the holidays, something was happening at the pump.
Prices crept up.
The average price of gas in the Duluth area increased from $2.59 a gallon as December began to $2.65 a gallon on Monday. Similar prices can be found throughout much of Minnesota and Ithe United States, according to the auto club AAA and the Minnesota Gas Prices website.
Not much of an increase, you say. True, until you look at the gas prices a year ago, when $1.68 a gallon was typical in Minnesota.
The nearly $1 increase is due to a rise in oil prices during 2009, from about $31 per barrel to nearly $80 per barrel, according to AAA.
Still, we've got it better than in 2008 when gas prices rose and fell like a roller coaster and approached $4 a gallon."

Public employees living larger than ever as economy struggles
By goldwater

Goldwater Institute Daily Email
December 16, 2009
The economy is struggling, the unemployment rate is high, and many Americans are struggling to pay the bills. But one class of Americans is doing quite well: government workers.
Their pay levels are soaring, they enjoy unmatched benefits, and they remain largely immune from layoffs, except for some overly publicized cutbacks around the margins.
As I document in my new book, Plunder!, "2 government employees of all stripes have manipulated the system to spike their pensions. The old deal seemed fair: public employees would earn lower salaries than Americans working in the private sector, but would receive a somewhat better retirement and more days off. Now, public employees get higher average pay, far higher benefits, and many more days off and other fringe benefits. They have also obtained greatly reduced work schedules, thus limiting public services even as pay and benefits shoot ever higher. The new deal is starting to raise eyebrows, thanks to efforts by groups such as the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility, which publishes the $100,000 Club, a list of thousands of California government retirees with six-figure, taxpayer-guaranteed incomes.
The story doesn’t end with the imbalance in pay and benefits. Government workers also enjoy absurd protections. The Los Angeles Times published a recent series about the city’s public school district, which doesn’t even try to fire incompetent teachers and is seldom able to get rid of those credibly accused of misconduct or abuse.
The real scandal is a two-tier society where government workers enjoy benefits far in excess of those for whom they supposedly work. It’s past time to start cleaning up the mess by reforming retirement systems and limiting the public unions’ power.

On the Northland Country Club situation:
Some of the Members are not happy with this becoming a matter of public record. They want to know-
#1. Did someone on Northlands Board put out some type of "press release" or simply contact the news paper on the sly?
or
#2. Did the news paper publish an "internal private email", sent only to Northland Members, and went ahead and published it as public news? |

The "News" angle of it.
Rosemary's comments were complimentary and caring and that was nice of her to try and help his situation. I'm NOT critizing her because the News Tribune had already deemed a private citizens work situation "public knowledge" and it was out there.
I just hate it when the News Tribune publishes a private citizens name, or personal/work situation, as "news" and causes public embarrassment. What next, the shoe salesman at Sears gets fired and it's on the front page??
Unfortunately, it escalates to blogs, and a private citizen's business suddenly is all over the internet too. It doesn't seem fair to me??

In my humble opinion:
Discussing the former manager of NCC is out of line. He is a private citizen, in a private sector job, and should not be discussed here.
Nor should any other "private" citizen. If he was on the public payroll or somehow involved in public activities involving tax payers money, or a local political organizer that's different. He's NONE of thes above.
TONY: CS, what part of the discussion should not be discussed, the news article or the one wishing the former manager good luck? |

82586 - Sat Jan 2 21:48:23 2010 - [Inexcusable DFL Duluth and proud of it] By: LC |
We're Duluth and proud of it. This poor handicapped guy in this story can't get around in his wheelchair, even with all the AFSCME new hires.
http://www.wdio.com/article/stories/S1336079.shtml
Duluth Residents Sick of Slippery Sidewalks
The recent holiday storm left coated these sidewalks with inches of slick ice. Many local folks have safety concerns.
"I saw an elderly woman slip and she hit her hip pretty hard," said Joseph Pineda. "It's pretty dangerous out here."
"I hope they find a way to clear it up," said Edward Kleveter. "If they don't, it could be a problem."
"I walked down Lake Avenue last night and I had to walk in the middle of the street," said Dennis Upton.
Maintenance operations worker Tom Kasper says the city has thirteen operators working to break down the ice. But Kasper says this amount of ice and snow makes it a slow process and the workers are only able to finish about a tenth of a mile per hour. At that pace, it could take up to three weeks to remove it all. Some local folks are hoping they'll find a quicker way.
"Even for folks who are able bodied, this is treacherous," said Roberta Cich from the Center for Independent Living.
Cich works with folks that have disabilities, and is legally blind herself, using public transportation and sidewalks to get around.
"In the morning I catch my bus at ten to seven, so it's still dark," said Cich. "There's danger there because the cars can't see you walking and there's nowhere to step off the road."
And Cich says the icy sidewalks are next to impossible for those in walkers or wheelchairs. Kevin Sebunia says he couldn't make it across Superior Street for an appointment.
"I had business on the other side of the street, and I had to meet over here at Coney Island. That's inexcusable," said Sebunia. "It's private business and here I am doing it in a public establishment. It's not right."
To speed things up, some residents suggested local businesses and neighbors should help the city workers by clearing the ice in front of their property.

| I had the opportunity to meet Kerry Gauthier recently. This councilor-elect is one to watch for paybacks to the DFD PAC and unions. He has an axe to grind and that axe is for the special interests of the folks that contributed to his campaign. I am a very open-minded individual and was suprisingly disappointed to listen to his non-objective rhetoric... In my opinion, DFL Duluth just obtained "Chicago level" corruption. Hold on to your wallets and watch your backs... |

82581 - Thu Dec 31 15:16:09 2009 - [WDIO rolls, FOX grows, NNC falls] By: James |
From Ralph Doty's blog in the Budgeteer.
10 rolls, FOX grows, NNC falls.
---------------------
The first significant Nielson "book" of viewer numbers for this television season is in. And of most importance to most TV station managers are the figures for local newscasts.
They are probably celebrating at WDIO-Channel 10 because in time periods where Channel 10 went head-to-head with KBJR-Channel 6 and KDLH-Channel 3, it was a romp for Channel 10.
(KQDS-Channel 21 airs its once-a-day newscast at 9 p.m., one hour earlier than the other stations.)
Channels 6 and 10 broadcast early evening newscasts at 5 p.m. For the first time in recent memory, this November’s survey showed Channel 10 (anchor Sandy Drag) won in the category of number of households watching local news. WDIO-10 had a 24 percent share, while KBJR-6 (anchor Michelle Lee) had 22 percent of households. That’s a dramatic turnabout for both stations.
At 6 p.m., Channel 10 (anchor Dennis Anderson) won the time slot for local newscasts with 27 percent of households. Channel 6 (Lee) garnered a 23 share. Channel 3, which airs CBS news with Katie Courick at 6 p.m., attracted a mere 5 percent of households watching TV.
At 10 p.m., the time slot generally considered by media observers to be the most important for local news because of ad revenue they attract, WDIO-10 drubbed KBJR-6 and KDLH-3 in head-to-head competition. In fact, Channel 10 was viewed by twice as many households at 10 p.m. than its closest competitor, Channel 6, and three times as many households than Channel 3.
The percentage of households at 10 p.m.:
WDIO-10 (Anderson) 28 percent
KBJR-6 (Lee) 14 percent
KDLH-3 (Kevin Jacobsen) 8 percent
KQDS-21 (9 p.m.) (Nick LaFave/Beth Jett) 11 percent
The percentage of households watching Fox 21 news at 9 p.m. nearly doubled over November 2008.
Channel 6's decline has been underway for a few years. Clearly, Channels 6 and 3 (Granite Broadcasting owns Channel 6 and manages Channel 3 for a different company) must make some significant changes in its newscasts if it is to stop the hemorrhaging. One way they might do that is by stabilizing its corp of reporters and stop the revolving door.
Otherwise, Channels 3 and 6 should give up and replace its 10 p.m. newscasts with, say, wrestling matches or old movies. They couldn’t do much worse.

Some people cannot accept the truth and that's just he way it is. All you can do Rosemary is put the information out there and let those who read it decide. Can you post the link to the contract that someone posted here over on the DNT site? If so let them look it up and decide. It would be good for more citizens of Duluth to look over the whole contract anyway so they can see where the money is being spent.
Then again just let it die as no one gives a shit in this town anyway. They love bending over. It's like an addiction that hurts the first time but for whatever reason you go back time and time again for the same abuse. After a while it feels normal and you can't live without it. How about the battered taxpayer syndrome? |

Come on Big Iron, be nice. It really isn't about height, weight or fashion, it's about what our 'ideal' should be. You know, living the kind of life we are supposed to, loving our neighbors as ourselves and being kind, that sort of thing.
It's all about being here and now and isn't about being unfair or having more than others. If everyone had a fair chance to live a good life, we could all go to new heights.
Being in a rare position living here, I've seen the best and the worst of the DFL in Duluth. From now on I'll be voting on the Independent ticket or not voting at all.
And on that note....

| How it usually works Rose K is you are entitled to your regular pay for the designated holiday without working. However if you have to work during a "paid" holiday that work is paid at time and a half your regular pay. Then the two are added together on the paycheck to equal double time and a half but I guess you could technically say that you are only getting time and a half because you would be getting paid for the day if you had stayed home and not worked at all. It may appear on a check stub as holiday pay 8 hours, overtime or other 12 hours. This is nothing new and has been in many union contract for decades. |

My Dog,
My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day.

He can eat whenever he wants, 24/7/365.
His meals are provided at no cost to him.
He visits the Dr. once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise.
For this He pays nothing, and nothing is required of him.
He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than He needs, but He is not required to do any upkeep.
If He makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.
He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep.
He receives these accommodations absolutely free.
He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.
All of his costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day.
I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head,
Damn , my dog is a democrat!

Power to the Unions!
Thanks a lot Obama. I'm really thankful for what you have done for us(not to us) and that you have taken care of yourselves.
Worth a read.....
Obama recently approved a 2% salary increase for all federal
employees effective January 1, 2010. Members of the executive, legislative and judicial branch are due for an automatic pay increase in January as well. All this on the backs of seniors who will not incur any COLA increases for several years.
For the first time in history, the Congress will not allow an increase in the social security COLA (cost of living adjustment).
In fact, The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation predicts there may not be any COLA for the next three years.
However, the per person monthly Medicare insurance premium will be increased from the 2009 premium of $96.40 to $104.20 in 2010 and to $120.20 for the year 2011.

I guess it is my own fault according to their logic that I do not own my own grader and scoop to clean my own street. What was I thinking? Of course we as citizens should do our own streets and not utter a word against the Union.
Does anyone know what the Holiday Pay scale is for these snow crews. Someone told me it was triple on Christmas....a good source. I hope he is wrong. Does anyone know???? |

| Sorry pro-DFD but Jay Sparks personal finance has everything to do with his reasoning on the task force farce. If he can't handle his own finances they he sure as hell can't make rational arguments involving millions of taxpayer dollars. Only a fool would listen to this guy. |

Subject: Founder of the Weather Channel on Global Warming
Best illustration and explanation I have heard, simple, logical, straight forward and he didn't need to hide or falsify any data.
Also, he is not trying to make $Millions from this , as Al Gore and others are doing. Watch and decide for yourself.
VERY INTERESTING AND WELL WORTH VIEWING. It’s presented by a weather expert, with the sincerity of John Hope (our deceased wx channel hurricane expert), and a reassuring voice similar to Walter Cronkite. Believable---and no politicians involved.
Finally, a REAL EXPERT showing the fallacy of the concept of "global warming".

| I sure hope Obama lets the military take care of what needs to be done over in Afganistan rather than trying to run the war like we did in Vietnam. Washington never wins wars, the men and women in uniform do. Isn't that right Larry? Oh, I forgot, when your country called you to duty you ran. Larry turned his back on our Country...and then pretends to fight for the working man...punk pussy |
