Hey all. Let's try to keep it a bit clean here. If even I am getting sick of the posts allowed on the blog it really tells you something.
It's easy to sub the word "gay" or "homosexual" in a post for carpet muncher if you want to approve a post.
It's posts with that kind of language that cause this blog to lose credibility even among natural allies.
Just my two cents. |

| Beth Olson has been endorsed by our local DFL so we can expect another win for the good guys. Beth is intelligent and can make a difference on our council. She fully supports our fire department and understands what we do and the importance of our job. Other councilors, AKA Jim Stauber, has a conflict of interest even being on the council. Beth Olson will win and another Democrat on our council can only make it better. You people who hold her sexual orientation against her are small and weak. You go Girl! |

I"ll be at our Labor Day Picnic. I've only missed one of them and that was in 1998 as I had an injury that kept me from attending this festival. This is a time for all labor to celebrate that hard work makes this world goes around. I am looking forward to a meal with my Union brothers and sisters. The only person I am NOT looking forward to seeing is Draft Dodging Larry. There are a number of us who would rather not see him show up. Larry I am asking that you stay home this year and subsequent years. Your decision not to protect our country is cowardly. I will stand shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand with all my Union brothers and sisters but never again with you.

81195 - Fri Sep 4 16:12:52 2009 - [Where is the "Pride" now?] By: Adam R |
I see that Bethie Olson has a picture of herself and her daughter on her campaign literature, but her wife is not in the picture. If she is so proud of being a Carpet Muncher for the time being and got married in Canada to some Butch, why doesn't she include the whole family in the picture? Doesn't she have any family values? LOL! Then the caption below the picture could have her daughter saying, "Guess which one of my mommys is running for City Council" Where is the "Pride" now?
It is not any different than when Jeff, light in the loafers, failed to mention his perversion while running, yet once elected, pushed forward the resolution on the Homo Registry. Why didn't he come clean when he ran? Where is the integrity? Is he not proud of his hobby?
I am starting to believe some of these people have learned to play the "Gay Card" to get elected in this area.
Will DFL Duluth make late night television and embarrass the city once again if 2 of the council candidates play the gay card and get elected, thus making it a solid third of the council as totally Homo? Are one third of the residents Homos? If not it would seem that the DFL is getting out of control from even itself. |

81190 - Fri Sep 4 10:13:55 2009 - [Off the chart with taxes, fees & fines] By: Cynic |
Dauber, Since I don't live in Hermantown or Rice Lake township I don't really care one way or the other what their taxes are. If I did I would be active in trying to control their government spending. However, I live in Duluth. Its like mother used to say "Just because Jimmy jumps off the bridge are you going to follow?"
Why don't you look up the information if you're so interested. Also why not check their total home/business value, average incomes, average home value, sales taxes, street light utilities, storm water utilities, food and beverage taxes, hotel/motel tax, parking meters, fees for services, building permits, assessments for road repairs, how many homes and businesses pay into government services, etc. The list would run into hundreds of items to get a true picture of what each citizen pays into local government in different communities. |

Congressman's view: Debate must deal with facts
http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/129396/
COMMENT OF THE DAY
With all due respect Congressman, the three revisions you referenced that were taken out of the bill would NOT have been removed if not for the voices heard throughout America. And if you're that concerned about facts, then you should not characterize individuals who are defending their rights to speak to you and Congress as being against health care reform. We believe health care reform is needed, but not the way President Obama and Congress is going about it. And holding only meetings with those who will not dissent is affirmation of your arrogance. |

Although Duluth 4th District City Council candidate Kerry Leigh Gauthier (11-06-1955) doesn't have much of a criminal history exept for a $117.00 speeding mistake in 2006, he has said some interesting things over the years. Here are a few quotes:
"We need to increase revenue such as an increase in parking fines." (2008)
"In light of the longstanding financial issues of the city and the governor’s announcement to cut local government aid, I would have voted for it "14% Tax Levy ." (2008)
"By God, this year the 8th District is going to make Minnesota a majority of the Democrat-Farmer-Labor Party" (2006)
"We wanted to show our support for "Gay Pride weekend and celebrate diversity in the community" (2002)
"It is clear to me that we need the team of Jaros, Huntley and Prettner-Solon to continue the work of protecting our environment and quality of life." (2002) |

81184 - Thu Sep 3 10:06:09 2009 - [That ain't rain dribbling down your back] By: Johnnie G. |
Candidates for city council offer little cause for optimism. One thinks having a wealthy person pay the same fee for a ciy service as a person with less resource is a "huge inequity." Suppose he thinks the guy in the suit should put double money in the parking meter? One thinks the council top priority should be creating a city that is a "wonderful place", always code for a world where things are the way she thinks they should be no matter the cost, social or dollar. One wants to open our arms (checkbooks) and "give away whatever we need to give away" to get business to invest. Suppose he was a big supporter of the ramp the city built for SMDC and George Sherman?
When you hear words like invest being substituted for spend, you should know that ain't rain dribbling down your back. |

I'm not blindly changing political party's to the Republican side but I can say for sure I see no where in sight where either party is representing me and the majority. Obama's approval rating is down to 42% and dropping. We have elected a radical socialist who has awaken the American People. Guess what... The American People always win. I am first an American and will use my voice as such. Party labels will have no affect on my vote, it is whether the individual believes in freedom, liberty and our Constitution. |

81168 - Tue Sep 1 17:28:23 2009 - [Can count on DLF Kool-Aid Flavor Changes] By: Adam R |
It looks like we may have another O-bomb-a market rally on our hands. Almost 200 points South today. Could the wheels be coming off the cart?
As far as DFL Duluth goes, it is a very sad situation indeed. The only thing that ever changes in DFL Duluth is the flavor of the Kool Aid. And of course the increased burden by way of increased fees and taxes upon those who actually pay the bills for others to enjoy the good life. Those others include both groups who live off of the taxpayer. The ones who call themselves AFSCME employees and elevate themselves to God like status and those who are invited to Duluth from many of Duluth's unofficial Sister Cities to live for free in exchange for their vote at the next DFL election to ensure a DFL Duluth for another 5 decades if things don't implode before then.
DFL Duluth, where traveling to a 3rd world country no longer requires leaving the United States. Come and visit and make sure you have good shocks on the car, plenty of money for the DFL distribution center and where DFL Duluth Pride has a whole different meaning than many out there in the real world ever knew. Come visit and see what 50 years of one party DFL Duluth rule can do to destroy what was at one time, a beautiful city with a hopeful future. Thank God for conceal and carry too. Don't forget to pack when visiting as you have to travel through "Little Chicago" to get to any of the attractions. Come visit and see our force fed cultural diversity in action and listen to our different dialects of the English language. Also bring along your Ebonics-English dictionary in case you need to navigate our crime infested downtown area. It may come in handy and could save your life.
Come see why so many are fleeing town and others claim that by sunset they will be gone from DFL Duluth, once and for all!
Come listen to DFL Duluth Donny and understand why he is always smiling and in a good mood. No matter how bad it gets, he and his DFL cronies will still be fleecing the taxpayers for a better life for themselves. Don't let others tell you it ain't so, see for yourself how DFL Duluth is self destructing as all the DFL Politburo members and Apparachiks have to say is that we live in a "vibrant" and "thriving" community.
Decide for yourself what is "thriving" more in Duluth, the crime or the unfulfilled 5 decades of promises of economic progress.
When the population shrinks by half in 20 years, only a DFL Duluth Kool Aid drinker would believe this is progress.
BTW, today we have our very own version of Constantin Chernenko in Duluth. Get a glimpse of our Congressclown before he heads back to his Washington D.C. lifestyle of the rich and famous. He can't seem to hold a meeting regarding health care, one of the biggest issues in the lives of ordinary Americans, but wouldn't miss the chance at getting in front of the camera and taking credit for another round of DFL wealth distribution. He will probably promise that he is bringing in another couple of airlines to this dying city. They will leave once his DFL wealth distribution money dries up anyway. For a good laugh and to see if indeed a stick is really holding him upright, try to get a glimpse at what a DFL Congressclown is really all about. It is not often that DFL Duluth sees their very own Congressclown in person. |

81167 - Tue Sep 1 13:01:35 2009 - [I left DFL Duluth - You should too] By: Kent |
| There's something that the good people here need to realize. Like you, I would hopelessly ponder why in the world Duluthians would be so ignorant as to vote DFL time and again, gleefully accepting tax increase after tax increase. Why in the world would they send Oberstar to the Senate time and again (longer than the 35 years that I've been alive), for no benefit. It took me 35 years to finally realize that it's what they want! The vast majority of the citizens of Duluth and surrounding areas are not liberals; they are Socialists. If they could, they would gladly hand over all of their personal wealth to become wards of the State. Duluth is never going to change; not in a thousand years. That's why my family and I left the area, and that's why you should to. |

81166 - Tue Sep 1 10:30:50 2009 - [Keeping Crime Down in Downtown] By: DFL Crime Watch |
Keeping Crime Down in Downtown
Earlier this summer, my Chamber colleagues and I completed a walking tour of First Street during which we stopped in every business located between City Hall (on the west end) and SMDC (on the east end). We queried each of the fifty-four business owners and operators regarding their view of crime in the Downtown area.
We did so because we had heard from a few of our members who did business in the Downtown section of First Street and who believed crime was becoming a growing problem. Our tour clearly illustrated that although there were a few isolated areas of concern - especially at certain times of the day - First Street remains a safe and vibrant place to do business and enjoy visiting.
After completing the tour, we shared our findings with Police Chief Gordon Ramsey. He, in turn, was gracious in sharing with us the plans he was even then (May, 2009) implementing to intensify the City's crime fighting efforts in the Downtown.
Four months have now passed since the completion of our tour and the increase of crime fighting efforts. This is a list of those efforts which have been implemented:
• Two new, energetic officers now routinely walk or bike through the Downtown.
• Seven additional seasonal officers are now patrolling Downtown and Canal Park. This is the largest police presence in many years in these areas.
• A new skateboard ordinance has been implemented in Canal Park. (There have been positive reports on the ordinance from business owners in Canal Park.)
• Two additional plain clothes undercover officers have been patrolling the problem areas of Downtown.
• Officers are working with the Downtown bars that have excess police calls and have placed the bars on police calls reduction plans.
The cumulative impact of these initiatives has resulted in a safer, friendlier Downtown Duluth. As a result, there are more people visiting and enjoying Downtown than in many past years. More arts and entertainment venues are drawing greater numbers of patrons. More people are residing in the increasing number of condominiums and apartments available in the Downtown, and greater numbers of tourists are concurrently making their way from Canal Park into our historic Downtown.
There has never been a better, safer time to enjoy the sights, sounds, and energy of our community's meeting place. I look forward to seeing you there.
Yours in support,
David Ross
President & CEO

| From Dodge St just up from the secretary's house. Just heard on the news tonight that there will be a balanced budget for 2010. The best news was that no more firefighters will be hired to fill vacant overtime slots in 2010. The city and taxpayers have really started to figure out the DFD and the fleecing of us taxpayers. Duluth firefighters have endorsed all DFL/Liberal candidates in the last 17 years so as to not expose their fleecing. The most expensive full-time fire department in the state per capita has been ousted. I think another editorial by one of their union members in the Budgeteer describing how busy they are is needed. Don't you? |

| Just exactly what is a "Professional" Firefighter? A firefighter is a job as far as I am aware. Maybe the professional part comes into play in obtaining that job. I understand that the professional part has more to do with how well a DFD job seeker can perform a Gummy Bear for one of the DFL Duluth DFD Honchos. Did American workers earn a living building these vehicles?...Nope. Yes, Toyota gets the profits. But they also supply thousands of Americans with good paying jobs on vehicles they build here. I call it a wash. Name one vehicle that is built in America with 100% American built parts. You can't because there isn't one. Made in America doesn't apply here. Neither does buy American. You slipped throught the cracks this entire time without your fellow union workers knowing you were a draft dodger. Larry, your a puke and a pussy. When my number came up I chose to defend this great nation and my union brothers and sisters. My watering hole is the Reef. The best bar in town for me. Want to meet me for a beer. Good reading on the DNT. Tony R, is that you oh great one? I hope so. I love calling Duluth DFL DULUTH, and it looks like the comments below show why Duluth is such a failure compliments of the DFL. Gotta love the fact that the DNT is letting the people say it the way it is in the comments.
If you read the article you'll see the same DFL inmates are running the ayslum and the usual DFL race card is being played in light of pure incompetence.

All these "mixed income" condos are a joke. what you are really building is more low income housing that will attract the "diverse" population that Duluth seems to want to cater to. The mobile welfare parasites, the gangbangers, the out of town thugs and any other parasite that comes here for Duluths welfare and other free services. Anyone (other than the drug dealers) who is smart enough to have the money to afford these places, is smart enough not to live there!! Thank you liberals for turning Duluth into a mini-Detroit!!!!

"The real problem, they say, is the financial restrictions NHS placed on potential buyers" dnt: To be eligible, buyers couldn’t make more than the state-defined median income. For a family of two, that’s $62,000 a year. But they had to be able to afford a $213,000 condo, If I had two kids I couldn't afford the mortage on the place how can you figure any one else can. Sounds like the couple of white racists on this blog just can't stand that a WHITE man in Duluth is a murderer. You condition yourselves to believe that only minorities murder in Duluth, yet most Duluth murderes are done by whites.
If you look at Stephen's criminal record, you will see that he is clearly listed as WHITE. So one of your own race is the perp here.
Like I said, if we are to blame people because of race, then the white race holds the most blame for this murder. |

| White Punk, Using your logic the man only has to be "a little bit Native" to be considered "all" Native by a racist. I listened to a black man say Obomba is black as long as the KKK would consider him black. He went on to explain how one drop of a black persons blood would make any white black in the mind of a KKK member. Thus using your own reasoning by claiming you are talking to a racist the murderer in question cannot be "a little bit Native". It is all or nothing to any self respecting racist. |

Teen who shot two Duluth store clerks heads to adult court
A Duluth boy who shot two Lincoln Park store clerks in the back shortly after he turned 15 will — after a lengthy appeal process — be tried as an adult.
By: Mark Stodghill, Duluth News Tribune
A Duluth boy who shot two Lincoln Park store clerks in the back shortly after he turned 15 will — after a lengthy appeal process — be tried as an adult.
Steven Albert Cooper, now 17, is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and one count of first-degree aggravated robbery.
Judge Shaun Floerke ruled in May 2007 that Cooper should stand trial as an adult. Floerke determined the evidence showed that Cooper in a cold, calm and calculated manner shot clerks Christopher Davis and Daniel Warner in the Interstate Spur station-
convenience store on Nov. 6, 2006, with no warning.
Police said Cooper shot Davis three times and, when Warner tried to escape over the service counter, Cooper shot him three times. The defendant reached into a till and took money.
Davis suffered a broken rib and a collapsed lung. Warner also sustained a collapsed lung. Each victim has one bullet lodged hear his spine that can’t be removed because surgery could cause greater damage.
The state public defender’s office appealed Floerke’s decision to try Cooper as an adult. The Minnesota Court of Appeals affirmed Floerke’s decision last year, but the Minnesota Supreme Court asked it to take a second look based on a recent ruling about what evidence is permissible in deciding whether a juvenile case should go to adult court.
When the Court of Appeals again dismissed the appeal, Cooper petitioned the Supreme Court for further review. The petition was denied.
Floerke had sealed Cooper’s adult and juvenile files while the appeals were pending. The court unsealed the adult file this week and Cooper is scheduled to appear for a hearing in St. Louis County District Court on Wednesday. He has been in custody — first at the Arrowhead Juvenile Center and now at the St. Louis County Jail — since the incident
The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office has filed a document with the court stating that it intends to seek a longer-than-guideline sentence for Cooper because the victims were particularly vulnerable — being trapped in the counter enclosure — and because they were treated with cruelty, among other reasons.

I assume that you are a racist white man, correct? The "Native American killer" "punk" that you were refering to is actually officially listed as being white. So, when are the whites going to clean up thier crime, stop murdering people, and stop spitting on cameramen? |

The only cops who should be afraid of a review board, are the crooked ones. Right now only friends and co-workers of officers investigate complaints and decide if criminal charges will be filed. You can't get any more biased and unfair than that.
It is the same as if you allow friends of a criminals to investigate the crime and decide if there will be any charges or punishment. There is a reason that jurrors are questioned before a trial and removed if there is any bias.
Does anyone really believe that some cops don't break the law and violate people's rights? Does anyone really believe that some cops don't cover up for other cops? |

DATE: 08/26/2009
NATURE OF INCIDENT: Homicide investigation
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE :08/26/2009
INCIDENT TIME: 1:10 AM
INCIDENT LOCATION:
SUBJECT: Homicide investigation
BY: Deputy Chief of Police
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Duluth Police were dispatched to 3930 Grand Avenue regarding a possible shooting. Witnesses in the area described hearing what sounded like a single gunshot coming from that address. Shortly after hearing the gunshot they observe three women leave the scene on foot. These women are eventually located and are believed to be witnesses to the shooting. Officers entered the building and located a deceased male victim in apartment one. It appeared the victim had been shot in the head. Officers were unable to locate a suspect at the scene.
The body of the victim was transported to the St. Louis County Medical Examiners Office, where an autopsy was conducted. The Medical Examiner has preliminarily determined the cause of death was a single gun shot wound to the head and has ruled the death a homicide. The victim has been identified as Mario Demon Highler DOB 01/21/1978 of Duluth. Next of kin have been notified.
During the course of the investigation information was developed that Stephen Louis Cobenais DOB 09/07/1984, who is the renter of the apartment where the shooting occurred, was the suspect in this homicide. Investigators determined that Cobenais is currently at 612 East 6th Street. The residence was secured and Cobenais was contacted by negotiators. At approximately 3:10 p.m. Cobenais walked out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Earlier today an arrest warrant was issued for Cobenais charging him with second degree murder. Cobenais will be lodged at the St. County Jail pursuant to the arrest warrant. The investigation into the homicide continues.
The Duluth Police Department is asking anyone with information about this homicide to contact the Duluth Police Violent Crimes Unit at 218-730-5050.

81099 - Wed Aug 26 16:04:33 2009 - [Remembering Teddy] By: Alfonzo |
The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
As soon as his cancer was detected, I noticed the immediate attempt at the "canonization" of old Teddy Kennedy by the mainstream media. They are saying what a "great American" he is. I say, let's get a couple things clear & not twist the facts to change the real history.
1. He was caught cheating at Harvard when he attended it. He was expelled twice, once for cheating on a test, and once for paying a classmate to cheat for him.
2.While expelled, Kennedy enlisted in the Army, but mistakenly signed up for four years instead of two. Oops! The man can't count to four! His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, former UP.SO. Ambassador to England (a step up from bootlegging liquor into the US from Canada during prohibition), pulled the necessary strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea , where a war was raging. No preferential treatment for him! (like he charged that President Bush received).
3. Kennedy was assigned to Paris, never advanced beyond the rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being discharged. Imagine a person of his "education" NEVER advancing past the rank of Private!
4.While attending law school at the University of Virginia , he was cited for reckless driving four times, including once when he was clocked driving 90 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood with his headlights off after dark.. Yet his Virginia driver's license was never revoked. Coincidentally, he passed the bar exam in 1959. Amazing!
5.In 1964, he was seriously injured in a plane crash and hospitalized for several months. Test results done by the hospital at the time he was admitted had shown he was legally intoxicated. The results of those tests remained a "state secret" until in the 1980's when the report was unsealed. Didn't hear about that from the unbiased media, did we?
6. On July 19, 1969, Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts . At about 11:00 PM, he borrowed his chauffeur's keys to his Oldsmobile limousine and offered to give a ride home to Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker. Leaving the island via an unlit bridge with no guard rail, Kennedy steered the car off the bridge, flipped, and into Pouch Pond.
7. He swam to shore and walked back to the party passing several houses and a fire station. Two friends then returned with him to the scene of the accident. According to their later testimony, they told him what he already knew - that he was required by law to immediately report the accident to the authorities. Instead Kennedy made his way to his hotel, called his lawyer, and went to sleep. Kennedy called the police the next morning and by then the wreck had already been discovered. Before dying Kopechne had scratched at the upholstered floor above her head in the upside-down car. The Kennedy family began "calling in favors", ensuring that any inquiry would be contained. Her corpse was whisked out-of-state to her family before an autopsy could be conducted. Further details are uncertain, but after the accident Kennedy says he repeatedly dove under the water trying to rescue Kopechne and he didn't call police because he was in a state of shock. It is widely assumed Kennedy was drunk, and he held off calling police in hopes that his family could fix the problem overnight. Since the accident Kennedy's "political enemies" have referred to him as the distinguished Senator from Chappaquiddick. He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, and was given a SUSPENDED SENTENCE OF TWO MONTHS. Kopechne's family received a small payout from the Kennedy's insurance policy and never sued. There was later an effort to have her body exhumed and autopsied, but her family successfully fought against this in court, and Kennedy's family paid their attorney's bills.... a "token of friendship"?
8.Kennedy has held his Senate seat for more than forty years, but considering his longevity, his accomplishments seem scant. He authored or argued for legislation that ensured a variety of civil rights, increased the minimum wage in 1981, made access to health care easier for the indigent, funded Meals on Wheels for fixed-income seniors, and is it; widely held as the "standard-bearer for liberalism". In his very first Senate roll he was the floor manager for the bill that turned U.S. immigration policy upside down and opened the floodgate for immigrants from third world countries..
9.Since that time, he has been the prime instigator and author of every expansion of an increase in immigration up to and including the latest attempt to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Not to mention the pious grilling he gave the last two Supreme Court nominees, as if he was the standard bearer for the nation in matters of “what’s right”. What a pompous ass!
10. He is known around Washington as a public drunk, loud, boisterous, and very disrespectful to ladies. JERK is a better description than "great American". "A blonde in every pond" is his motto.
Let's not allow the spin doctors to make this jerk a hero -- how quickly the American public forgets what his real legacy is.
Send this on, as a LOT of the younger people don't have a clue about all of this, and us older ones tend to forget things that happened so many years ago. Although I HAVEN'T!

It appears the DNT's Stahlakinski is in cahoots with the DCB Watch’s spinsters. May be outted is a better word.
One would hope that an honest non-biased reporter would not be influenced by the email below. But, as you can see, Stahlalinski is in on the gig by his Buzz Blog post below the letter.
Hardly professional journalism.
Read more of Stahlalinski's agenda driven spin here. http://www.areavoices.com/buzz/
*************************************
Mr Stahl:
I find it somewhat troubling that your Buzz blog is being sponsored solely (except for the Google ads) by a far right fringe organization -- the Duluth teabaggers. How can you objectively cover this phony group when they are responsible for a portion of your income? It is one thing to place a banner ad for Bob Hansen's business, but you are now running a banner ad for his fringe group with a political agenda. I suspect that if you were to run a banner ad for MoveOn.org (an organization far less radical than the teabaggers) the local righties would go crazy.
There is a very big astroturf element to this phony teabagger movement:
DNC goes after gop' astroturf tea-bagger flash mobs
Birthers, Deathers, Teabaggers, AstroTurf: Harass Roots
I do hope you (however, it would be better to have another reporter untainted by a financial connection to the teabaggers) can objectively cover this group's picnic / anti-Obama rally tomorrow.
A few questions:
If the Duluth Teabaggers (now known as the Northern Liberty Alliance) are not a PAC, what are they?
Who are the 14 board members? Are any of them known to be liberal Democrats?
I would also like you to ask these board members if they believe President Obama was born in the United States--which is a fact that some really disturbed people can't grasp. I wonder why.
Mr Stahl, I am afraid that you are now being partially funded by what is ostensibly a hate group. Are you so desperate for funding that you would allow this apparent conflict of interest to continue?
Sincerely,
Chester Creek Tony Ramone

One other housekeeping note
http://www.areavoices.com/buzz/
You may have noticed that the National Northern Liberty Alliance has started advertising on the blog -- one of my readers did, sending me an email arguing that I'm being funded by "what is ostensibly a hate group" (no, it was not Claire) and calling the advertising a conflict of interest. I have also been contacted by a city council candidate who has expressed interest in advertising here, wondering if that's possible to do.
My answer: heck yes! Listen, if you think my coverage of anything is swayed by advertising support, then you don't know me very well. If I write about the NLA on the blog (as I have in the past) I will put a disclaimer saying one of the site's founders, Bob Hansen, advertises here (and I appreciate that he does). If the aforementioned council candidate advertises here and I write about said candidate, I will put a disclaimer saying as much. And if anyone thinks my coverage of a topic has been affected by advertising, you are all welcome to tell me.
For the record, my coverage is swayed by 1) my desire to be fair 2) what my editor tells me to do, and 3) chocolate chip cookies, in that order. Actually, reverse that order.

Does anyone see where this cash for clunkers thing is going?
The government sees it as such a big success. I see it as just a bunch of numbers that aren't going to work out. The people who have these clunker have them for a reason. Reason being they cannot afford to drive anything else. They cannot afford full coverage insurance or the car payment. So we'll be seeing a high rate of overdue loans on these cars and a lot of repossessions just because "They cannot afford it" So stimulate the economy in false pretenses and that's what you get. The government telling you hey you can afford it! How can you not? We'll help you. Just like the housing boom. Low interest loans or interest only loans with a 5 year balloon. What a bunch of force fed nonsense. Also, if GM is going bellie up why didn't they put stipulation that it be American Made! Not just American assembled! I think that Kia, not a U.S. based company, made out! Where is the stimulation in that! How green is importing? Get a handle on it AMERICA. Buy American to stay economically stable. |

81080 - Tue Aug 25 18:02:32 2009 - [Want to pay more DFL taxes? DONATE] By: DFL Watch |
What Might Have Happened Without Unallotment
New York's governor and state legislature have taken steps to reduce their state deficit by increasing taxes and fees by an estimated $8 billion. But they indicate they still face a a $2.1 billion shortfall.
While many liberal politicians say they will only tax the rich, estimates show that a family of four in New York state earning $70,000 will pay about $1,800 more in state taxes and fees than they did last year. The new taxes and fees include gas and electric bills, drivers licenses, license plates, beer and wine tax just for starters.
Now the New York state legislature will come back into session to "solve" the rest of their state deficit. That could have been the story in Minnesota too if the DFL-controlled legislature had their way. Thankfully Governor Pawlenty stopped DFL legislative leadership's tax increase plan and balanced the budget without a tax increase through budget reductions.

Isn't this the same whack job nut case that so rudely held up the city council meeting a couple years back because it thinks that it is more important than the rest of us citizens? Yelling, screaming, kicking and demanding some apology from one of the councilors that it thought might have had offended its old lady? I had never seen such a disrespectful show performed in front of the council and citizens before this. Then again, Duluth never used to have these low life transient know it alls in the city until the past few years.

I feel bad for the guy suing Gold Cross and his attorney. They have to deal with Judge Erickson who is a DELETED. The judge takes his sweet time making decisions (sometimes a year) and frequently makes legal errors. His most famous blunder came when he refused bail for a man who was wrongfully charged with bank robbery. There was zero credible evidence in the case. The man spent a half a year in jail before he was released after the real bank robber was caught. This was so unjust, that the case is mentioned in law textbooks and was featured on A&E's American Justice TV show.
According to the DNT:
"Aucoin might be a colonel, but he was outranked in the courtroom by U.S. Magistrate Judge Raymond Erickson, who lost patience with Aucoin on more than one occasion.
Erickson told Aucoin to not repeatedly ask the same questions that already had been answered by the witness. Erickson also told Aucoin not to have his witnesses read statements that the court was already familiar with."
Erickson must have a golf game he was missing... |

81069 - Mon Aug 24 23:24:05 2009 - [Ralph Doty - Once a liar always a liar] By: Timmy c |
Ralph Doty’s recent article is full of lies. I worked with Ron Stone at both Midwest and Clear Channel.
Ralph can’t open his article without starting it with a lie. “Few mediums are taking a beating like radio”. Radio as an industry is down about 20%. That compares to the industry Ralph works in, Newspaper, which has been down 50% year over year for the past three years. His second sentence, yep, you guessed it, another lie. “no station has fallen as far and so fast as the former AM powerhouse KDAL (610)”. 92.1 in one rating period fell further percentage wise than KDAL has fallen in two years.
Doty continues on his spree to tell no truth…with “Stone, who arrived here after a failed tenure at Duluth’s Clear Channel stations”. The truth is, Stone took over the Clear Channel stations when they were clearly not doing well. When he departed those stations, they were at the top of their game, and profits were made that year for the first time since Clear Channel owned them. In fact, his entire staff received profit sharing for the first time. Another lie told by Doty was why changes were made at KDAL AM. The real truth is Midwest Ownership approved the changes.
His lies and distortions continue with “Stone made personnel cuts in the station’s bread-and-butter news department” and “he didn’t renew the station’s contract with The Associated Press”. The real truth is the news department could not have been further from “bread and butter” but there were no personnel cuts in that department except for the departure of one Ralph Doty. As for Associated Press, that service was not cancelled by Ron Stone. Truly a bold face lie by Ralph Doty.
While the 12 plus numbers for KDAL AM are 6.1 percent of listeners, the fact is comparing that to two years ago is not a fair comparison to Stone’s time at the station. He did not run KDAL two years ago.
Ralph Doty’s best lie is “Additionally, Stone almost destroyed sister station WDSM when he fired popular local talk show host Lew Latto” The fact is WDSM performed better in the recent ratings than it did in the fall ratings during the election…something most would not have thought, including liar Doty. Doty would like you to think that “After management learned that Stone had lied to them about the circumstances surrounding the Latto fiasco, Stone was out and Latto was returned to the airwaves by owners in Green Bay”. Another outright lie by little man Doty.
Midwest approved the termination of Latto and Stone resigned from Midwest. Latto convinced them to let him back on the air, but when you digest the ratings hour by hour, Latto’s ratings in this book are as bad as the last, thus the reason he was released to begin with.
The one truth liar Doty tells is this “So now, WDSM — at one time the AM stepchild of Midwest Communications — is tied with KDAL in the most recent survey”. That is true…whats is not true is he final statement, and his final lie…which no doubt he could not resist telling, “No doubt, Latto’s return midway through the ratings period helped”. It would seem, once a liar always a liar!

| With all the disrespect that is constantly shown here for all things liberal, can any of these enlightened contributors actually offer some alternatives that are constructive? It would be very refreshing to see something other than criticism and scoffing. Leave the partisan nonsense out of it please. Thank you. |

81065 - Mon Aug 24 09:34:28 2009 - [Your DemoRAT Government ] By: anonymous |
Dear People of DFL Duluth,
Due to the current financial situation caused by the Democrat slowdown of the economy, your DemoRAT government has decided to implement a scheme to put workers 50 years of age and older on early retirement. This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).
Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to the government to be eligible for the SHAFT scheme (Special Help After Forced Termination).
Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW program (Scheme Covering Retired Early Workers). A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as the government deems appropriate.
Only persons who have been RAPED can get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependants & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance). Obviously, persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by the government.
Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on, will receive as much SHIT (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. The government has always prided itself in the amount of SHIT it gives out. Should you feel that you do not receive enough SHIT, please bring this to the attention of your local MP. They have been trained to give you all the SHIT you can handle.
Sincerely,
Tired of it all |

Why did Fox refuse to run this explosive program last Sunday??
-------Original Message-------
Here are the links - easier to access!
As you probably know, Hannity, FOX NEWS, was supposed to have had a special report Sunday, 9 Aug 09, but it never materialized. For whatever reason, they aired an episode that was done earlier in the week. Why was it pulled. Listening and watching the below segments of that proposed show will enlighten you as to just what is going on in America. We are being lead by the nose into the Muslim Nation for future extermination.
Here is report that was supposed to have been aired. Please take the time to watch and listen all 6 episodes.
To everyone who thought the special about Obama was going to be on Hannity, it was taken off. Here are the segments. You'd better watch now before hey are removed too.
Here are the 6 segments if they haven't been removed before you get to them.

81061 - Sun Aug 23 20:36:59 2009 - [No accountablitly to anyone] By: Stephanie P |
Gee Cynic, it sounds like you are on to something. Your post subtitled 'corruption' has me thinkin.
Nothing good has come from these mandated sessions designed to teach city and county employees how to treat people. I know how a mob of us can intimidate the public, to get our desired results.
While most struggle to keep their head above water in our current economy, what sets city and county worker apart from the main stream?
First and foremost, it has to be our right to feel above and beyond any taxpaying citizen. Our arrogance and no accountablitly to anyone, plays a big part. We can treat citizens and co workers with disrespect initiating the need for 'nice' school. So then we are paid to be trained to treat every person with respect, but honestly we are just happy to sit there pretending to listen. We still are paid our big salaries with benefits and we can treat others however we like. We don't mind going to 'nice' school, then we don't have to pretend that we are working.
The problem is, they don't and never will as long as they hold their tax paying postitions. Some believe that they are above the law so no matter how many times they are forced to take 'human rights' training, they will always be above and beyond mere, little taxpaying minds.
How many sessions should these employees be allowed to attend at taxpayers expense and still treat the public and certain employees like gargage? |

Never underestimate the illogic and hate of Obama supporters. Now they have turned against Cindy Sheehan. Apparently Sheehan does not believe the current white house occupant is god in corporeal form. DCB watch has repeatedly denigrated Sheehan since the 2008 election. Funny how quickly the progressives refocus their hate.

81056 - Sat Aug 22 09:26:22 2009 - [Forcing more DFL Kool-Aid down ] By: LIB Reader Online |
This letter writer hits the nail on the head. He calls it “advocacy writing” and I call it agenda driven editorializing. From “locals” committing crime in Duluth to hack journalism forcing more DFL Kool-Aid down your throat, “advocacy writing” is why you need to go GREEN and read the LIB online for free saving money, energy and the trees.

Reader's view: Story showed bias against reform opponents
Aug. 15, “Big money backing health-care opposition,” was an example of how journalism has changed. In the past, the news media could insert bias by what they chose to print. But if it was printed, the two sides were presented in as fair a way as possible.
This article was an example of advocacy writing, not journalism. It was not until the reader turned to page 3 and read the middle part of the paragraph that the reader was told the supporters of health-care overhaul have outspent opponents 2-to-1. The story then went on to state that the opposition groups have spent $10 million and the support groups plan to spend $150 million promoting overhaul. The article went on to dedicate a half inch to list the names of those supporting overhaul and 13 inches to those opposing. Furthermore, the article did not clarify that while most Americans are in favor of an overhaul they are opposed to the legislation as written.
After reading the article, it seems to me a more appropriate headline would have been: “Supporters of health-care reform outspend opponents 2-to-1.”
The topic was appropriate because most Americans are fed up with elected officials responding to those who line their pockets and winning the next election more than what is best for our country and those they represent.

Not a DFLer. May I add a few more to your
list, "contributing reasons to the crime problems in DFL Duluth".
DCB Watch
Local Casinos
UMD's Criminology Degree Program.
From UMD's website: "Students will also be exposed to the significance of inequality in the way that criminal justice is administered. The theme of inequality is incorporated into the graduate program as it is in the undergraduate program. In particular, structural forms of oppression are examined and emphasis is placed on issues of social justice, human rights, and treatment/rehabilitation."
(Apparently Engels, Marx and Saul Alinsky have won the "class struggle" in the halls of academia) (Keep this information in mind if you are ever solicited for "funds", "gifts", "endowments" to the university.) The U of M no longer educates, it indoctrinates. |

They have various programs from chemical dependancy treatment to the community watch program. Be careful who you trash while making your point. Some of the entities provide services for your friends, neighbors and relatives. |

Let me get this straight.
Obama's health care plan will be
Written by a committee whose head says he doesn't understand it,
Passed by a Congress that hasn't read it,
Signed by a president who smokes,
Funded by a treasury chief who did not pay his taxes,
Overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and
Financed by a country that is nearly broke.
What possibly could go wrong?
