81040 - Wed Aug 19 21:36:00 2009 - [Attracting DFL votes] By: Casual Observer |
| Concerning Leviticus 20:13. Leviticus 20:13 specifically cites the sin of male on male (male to male?) sexual conduct. Does the bible have anything to say about lesbian sexual behavior? I assume that according to scripture that is a sin also? To be quite honest I am conflicted over the issue of lesbian behavior. It is generally considered to be a sin. However I can't say I find the behavior disagreeable if the women are young and attractive. I'm not convinced that most of the so called called GBLT types, especially those in politics, are really gay or lesbian. I would not be surprised if many of them act "gay" or "lesbian" in an attempt to attract votes and appeal to the base of of the DFL party. Perhaps this fad of homosexuality will eventually pass and cease to be a mechanism to attract DFL votes. |

JBBP writes about the aquarium:
If you're a tax-paying resident of Duluth, you shouldn't have to even pay for parking or other things the city operates because YOU ALREADY ARE. At least you should get a discount.
I agree. If I remember right, there are discounts for locals at Disneyland and other SoCal attractions, so why not here? Not that I would go to the aquarium anyway, but other locals would probably go. I went to the aquarium once a couple years ago (for free....job-related) and I was bored out of my mind. I was out of there in 15 minutes. I tell relatives not to waste their time or money. A couple cousins decided to ignore me but when all was said and done, they told me I was right (as usual).
BUT HEY.....if others think it would be "fun" to go, let them go, I guess. Again, I think locals should get a discount so they can actually see why this thing is a waste of money. |

Duluth city attorney injured in bicycle accident
Duluth City Attorney Gunnar Johnson has been hospitalized after being in a bike accident on Saturday, Mayor Don Ness said.
Johnson had surgery Monday for several injuries, including damage to his shoulder and several broken ribs, Ness said.
“In spite of the serious nature of the accident, Gunnar was in his normal positive spirits,” Ness said. “When I spoke to him just hours after the accident, he was cracking jokes and was primarily concerned about the effects of his absence on staff workload. That’s typical Gunnar, despite the fact that he is a lawyer, he’s one of the most-liked people in City Hall.”
Get the boy some training wheels. This is karma.

81032 - Wed Aug 19 00:23:38 2009 - [City has only a 19% stake] By: JBBP |
By the way, Erik H...if you want to play that way, let's make things even more fair.
How about the city shuts down 19% of the casino parking lot- say, the top ramp? That could be followed by the city not working on 19% of the sidewalk in front of the casino. That shouldn't be too hard for the city to accomplish, since probably 75% of the city's sidewalks and streets are in some varying stage of disrepair, anyway. It wouldn't exactly be a new concept, would it?
Thank you. |

81031 - Wed Aug 19 00:17:11 2009 - [Most handle money better than the DFL] By: JBBP |
Caught a report on channel 6 about the tribe putting their feet down on handing over casino profits to the city...
Karen Diver seemed to think that the tribe could better use the money than the city does, by improving the casino, making it more lucrative and profitable for not only the casino but for the entire downtown area. At least that's what I got out of the interview.
Well, I think that we taxpayers would make better use of the money we hand over to the city through extortive taxation, too. Just think...if taxes weren't so high, we could contribute more to the local economy by investing in home improvements, better vehicles, nicer clothes, restaurant food, going out to movies and even tourist atractions, etc. The list goes on. None of the items I budget for are on that list.
Speaking of tourist traps...the aquarium charges $14.50 for admission. It also charges $4.00 to park in their parking lot. That's alot of money. Since most of us locals don't even make that much money for an hourly wage, I highly doubt that there are that many locals who are willing to pay that much. I won't. The membership deal is too high, too.
Duluth is so focused on charging more money for various attractions/parking in order to milk the tourists for whatever they can, they forget about us locals. Too bad.
If you're a tax-paying resident of Duluth, you shouldn't have to even pay for parking or other things the city operates because YOU ALREADY ARE. At least you should get a discount. Sheesh.
I bet the city won't forget about the tribe...hee-hee.
Thank you. |

I would like to see an audit of the Community Investment Trust Fund, the over $80 million the Fond Du Lac tribe has generous provided the Duluth regime. It's supposed to have $60 million or more saved but does anyone really know?
Simple math shows that $20 million has be squandered from the fund, 80 – 60 = 20 DFLers. The intent of the fund was to use on the interest, but the tax, fee and steal libs of Duluth have taken $20 million for what?
What bank or investment is the remaining $60 million in?
Did they spend it all?
And good for the tribe sticking it to dysfunction DFL Duluth. You deserve it.

81024 - Tue Aug 18 22:12:17 2009 - [City made its bed and must now lie in it] By: Mike F |
I (Mike Flaherty) am glad to see that the Fond du Lac Nation is stopping payments to the City of Duluth. As a Native American and a victim of outrageous and unconstitutional behavior and discrimination by the City of Duluth and the Duluth Police Department, I hope this will be a wake up call for local leaders to stop treating Indians as second class citizens and violating thier rights.
The police injured me during a false arrest which caused me over $2,000 in medical bills. The city refuses to pay this and continues treat myself and other Natives like they are garbage. I did nothing wrong and was not charged with anything, but officers lied and filed a false report in order to cover up thier behavior. I would have had many more medical bills if it were not for Fond du Lac's medical facilities, so I thank Fond du Lac for serving the needs of Indians. I would encourage Fond du Lac to refuse all future payments to Duluth until the city corrects the many wrongs they have done to Native citizens.
I filed a federal lawsuit against Duluth, but the city lied in it's denial and claimed "qualified immunity" on almost every charge. Now with the city threatening to sue Fond du Lac, the city will be taught a lesson in the sovereign immunity of federally recognized tribal governments. Duluth, you made your bed, now lie in it!

81023 - Tue Aug 18 18:49:38 2009 - [City has brought on its own problems] By: JBBP |
Adam R, I've been real busy, and the only thing I heard as to why the tribe wants to stop paying that 19% of the casino revenue is that the city isn't earning the money...
Wow, I agree with the tribe. Our infrastructure is crumbling, we're losing more and more jobs/workers(taxpayers), and the mayor and city council take whatever tax revenue they do manage to extort and spend it generously on frivolous, special-interest, feel-good projects that no one with any common sense would suport or even give a damn about. They have the gall to compensate their employees and their employee unions with higher wages and benefits than most of the taxpayers earn who are funding these bennies and perks.
Many of us are quite unsatisfied with the city's handling of our hard-earned tax dollars. Wouldn't it be a hoot if the taxpayers got in line with the tribe and simply stopped paying their property taxes in protest of how the city is being run, and how unjustified and unfair the tax increases have been under DFL/union control?
Good for the Fond du Lac tribe of Ojibway. At least they know how to get the city's attention. We could, too, if we'd unite...
Pay attention to this one.
Thank you. |

81021 - Tue Aug 18 12:25:41 2009 - [The DFL Duluth Push] By: Adam R |
The joke that is referred to as "DFL Duluth" continues. DFL Stahlalinski has an article in the DNT in which he claims that the Indian money is for street repair. Sorry to tell you Stahlalinski, that is not the case. The interest on the Indian money is used for streets, the principle is nothing but a cookie jar for the DFL Duluth city clowncilors to dip into to pay for their nonsense projects when they so desire. I wonder if the money is even there, or is this just another Ponzi scheme not yet uncovered? DFL Donny Ness, a fine DFL Socialist product and DFL party lackey has never seen a tax that he could not embrace. When the Indians say bye bye to Duluth next year when the contract expires, I expect a new charge on my Comfort Systems bill as ridiculous as his street light charge called, "Indian refusal to pay more to DFL Duluth charge". By the way, how is DFL Donny coming on the $300,000,000.00 unfunded city health care debt? LOL! Then we have our dear teachers union who wants to increase property taxes even more to pay for their retirement at the expense of others retirements to the tune of another $800,000.00.
Money, money, money, DFL Duluth is always looking out for itself and its operatives. What will hapopen when those who pay the bills can no longer afford it?
Don't worry, Beth, I can't decide which team I'm on will get the DFL backing, pardon the pun, and join Barney Frank Jr. and if Gauthier gets elected, him too and Duluth can pass another resolution like the Syrian prisoner one and condemn all the gay bashing which is apparently occurring in Iraq right now. Duluth would then have 1/3 of the nine councilors as Homos and could push for such wonderful resolutions that most Duluthians could care less about. Are 1/3 of the Duluth population Homos? It is possible isn't it?
What a joke of a city this has become under DFL Duluth one party rule. |

81020 - Tue Aug 18 11:31:01 2009 - [City should close casino parking ramp] By: Erik H |
| If the Fon Du Lac tribe wants to break it's agreement to pay the city of Duluth 19% of the revenue from slot machines at Fon Du Luth casino the city should respond accordingly. The city owns the parking lot and should close it. The city is also charged with repairing and maintaining the sidewalk in front of the casino. The sidewalk should be immediately torn up and dug out to do a long running repair on the city infrastructure underneath the sidewalk. Once access to the casino is made incredibly difficult the tribe should become more reasonable. |

B H does that stand for Bone Head or Butt Head?

I will vote for anyone not endorsed by the socialists progressive my ass action and the hottie feminist WIDELOAD and the Dumb Fu%@ing Liberal DFL and the Duluth Fire Mafia union of this pathetically underachieving decaying town.
Speaking of the Duluth Fire Mafia, how many campaigns are they working this year? How many firefighters are campaign chairs or secretary treasures of campaigns? The firefighters are a corrupt as can be. Why anyone that is a decent honest ethical person would belong to this union and give money to the DFD PAC is beyond me. No class and no respect for their chief or authority. Even Mike Vick has more going for himself than the Duluth Firefighter Mafia.
So Bone/Butt Head gay's your way to ruin a town? Apparently so as I see the buzzards circling the DFL Progressive wrath of destruction as Donny boy is soon to be out the Fond Du Lac money. Too bad the Custer's DFL bandits raided the trust fund. It too late to even cirle the wagons.

Mom Times Two
BY SCOTT THISTLE
NEWS TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER
Sage Olson bursts through the back door and scampers across the kitchen into the living room. She launches from the carpet into the arms of her waiting mom, sitting on the couch.
The family dog, Lucky Boy, jumps up, licking both on the face, and a pair of cats compete for affection, rubbing themselves on pants legs while purring.
Sage and her mom kiss, cuddle and exchange greetings. After all, Sage, 7, hasn't seen her mom, Angie Nichols, since morning -- when Nichols left for work.
But when Sage calls for mom, two women often answer.
"If she yells 'Mom' and one of us answers, and it's the wrong one, she says, 'No, the other one,' " said Beth Olson, Sage's birth mom.
"Sometimes we can just tell by the inclination of her voice which one of us she wants," said Nichols, Olson's partner.
Olson, Nichols and Sage are the kind of nontraditional family that this year's Duluth-Superior Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Allied Pride Festival hopes to highlight. The festival's "We Are Family" theme this year puts emphasis not only on the GLBT community's sense of solidarity but also on the broader definition of family.
"What is a family, really?" Nichols asked. "A family really is about love, and if you have love and concern for each other, then you have a really good family that you can be proud of."
As in most families, time is a precious commodity -- so as Nichols continues a conversation with a visitor, Olson fixes Sage a quick bite to eat. The family is again running late for Sage's weekly soccer match.
Sage's dad, who was divorced from Beth Olson three years ago, is also actively involved in his daughter's life. He, too, will be at the game to watch Sage run up and down the field.
Married a year ago Saturday in Ontario, Olson and Nichols say they felt compelled to exchange formal vows to solidify their commitments to each other and to Sage.
Both Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia legally recognize same-sex marriages. The Superior couple also had a church wedding at Duluth's Peace United Church of Christ.
Nichols and Olson are also activists in the ongoing debate over the definition of marriage. Both are board members with Action Wisconsin, a GLBT group organizing to defeat efforts to amend Wisconsin's constitution to ban same-sex marriage and civil unions.
NORMAL FAMILY LIFE
In many ways, the couple's family life is like any other Twin Ports couple raising a child. Both work at professional careers. Both share in Sage's daily care and both work at maintaining their home.
Daily activities at home include all the things other families do every day. From tooth-brushing to mealtimes to going to Sage's soccer games, what happens in their life would be a familiar routine.
"We operate in the community just the same as any other family, except for that every time we go somewhere, we know that people are going to figure it out," Beth Olson said.
Figure out that she and Angie "are not sisters," as she puts it. "They are going to discover, and then how are they going to treat us? How are they going to treat Sage?"
It's a fear and a frustration for the couple. On top of that is the time they spend fighting to protect their rights, standing up for what they believe in and helping to educate others.
"At the end of the day, we say to ourselves, 'What would it be like if we didn't have to fight for this stuff?' " Nichols said.
"We would have a lot of free time. We would have a lot more time to spend with Sage. We could just do things that are relaxing and free our mind, and have more time and money to put into our life that we want to have like everybody else has."
Overhearing Nichols, Sage echoes her, enjoying the attention: "Yeah, more time for me. Me, me, me."
To some degree, the couple is also hesitant to bare their lives for public consumption in articles like this. They want Sage to know she is special and her parents are special, but they wonder how that is much different than most families.
ACTIVIST CONCERNS
Beyond being the only same-sex couple they know of in their part of town, Olson and Nichols are political activists. The two were arrested in 2004 protesting President Bush's visit to Duluth.
"Sometimes you have to make decisions that are personal and based on -- hopefully, a greater good," Nichols said.
Those feelings aren't uncommon for activist gay or lesbian couples trying to raise children, said Tony Sheehan, board president of Action Wisconsin.
"In smaller communities, and particularly in places removed from larger cities where people interact on a more regular basis with quote-unquote nontraditional families, there are some hardships that these people have to deal with on a day-to-day basis," said Sheehan, who raised children with his male partner more than a decade ago.
He shuns the term "nontraditional," asking, "What is 'traditional' in America these days?"
Still, going against social convention is tough.
"It wears on people; I know it does," Sheehan said. "They are constantly having to answer questions or talk about why their family is just as important as traditional families."
The growing number of gay and lesbian couples raising families has inspired the phrase "gayby boom" in GLBT circles. Often, same-sex couples are adopting children with health or developmental problems, including AIDS and other serious illnesses, Sheehan said.
The trend counters the insistence by some Christian activists that marriage can only be between a man and a woman and that its main purpose is the creation of children. But child-rearing is a natural desire for many human beings -- gay, lesbian or heterosexual, Sheehan said.
SEEKING ACCEPTANCE
Couples like Nichols and Olson -- who raise a child together and fight for the rights of themselves and others -- deserve acceptance and respect, Sheehan said.
His admiration is echoed by Duluth Mayor Herb Bergson.
Bergson made history in 2004 as the first Duluth mayor to sign a proclamation welcoming the Pride Festival to Duluth. He also took tremendous criticism, including hate e-mails and threatening phone calls to his office and home, he said.
Still, Bergson stands by the decision and this year will welcome the GLBT community to his city during a reception next weekend.
"Back in the '50s and '60s, it was about the color of the skin. And today it's about sexual orientation," Bergson said recently. "I suspect in 30 years it will be something else."
Nichols said she hopes equal rights for GLBT individuals won't take 30 years, but she acknowledges it could.
She and Beth Olson recognize there are many people who don't see things the way they do. Nichols asks those people to try -- even if just for a moment -- to see life from their perspective.
"What most people don't realize is we are in the midst of our civil rights movement," Nichols said. "We are in the midst of a marriage movement where amendments are being proposed that will further entrench discrimination against our families.
"These are real families, too."

Has anyone else noticed who At-Large Duluth City Council candidate Beth Olson really is? She is as far-left as you can get. Her real name is Elizabeth Jane Burt (Olson). She is divorced and lives with her mother at 2107 E 4th St. She has lived most of her life away from the Twin Ports and has only lived in Duluth for a very short time.
In 2005 she was fined $181.00 for speeding in Wisconsin. In 2004, she was arrested for Disorderly Conduct in Duluth while protesting President Bush's vist to Duluth. The charges were dropped only because of an error when the city attorney said that she should have been charged with trespass instead.
She just what the Clowncil needs to complete out the city's foolish agendas! |

| So the DPD made a few busts and all is good? Big celebration followed by news conferences? The busts they made represent less than 5 percent of the same type and number of offenses that occur daily on 1st St alone. Maybe if they got their asses out on the street more and didn't all take lunch at the same time, as witnessed by the 4 patrol cars sitting in the lot of the London Rd Holiday station everytime I drive by,they could bump their percentages up. I'd like to see less time collecting money on minor traffic offenses, and more time "walking the beat" in Central Hillside. |

| It's getting to the point where all the tax increases are comical. I'm not sure who is going to be able to pay them. In my neighborhood I see less and less people who are working and the ones that are are working for some government entity. Many of the others are retired. I was talking to someone from another area of Duluth and they took a good look around their home and the same thing was going on in their neighborhood. BTW I just watched a guy leave the supermarket with two huge shopping carts full of groceries and there is no way he paid for them from some job looking like that. How can you tell if they purchased food with food stamps? They now use a card and it could be a credit card for all I know. |

Pat N: I understand what you are talking about as Duluth's Central Hillside seems to resemble the article you linked to regarding Detroit. Why is it that there are so many people in the Hillside and yet not one supermarket? I expect that the Hillside will see this same sort of Detroit security implemented to protect the few small merchants that do take the risk and try to do business in this criminal infestation known as Central Hillside.
More crime will be on the way when DFL Duluth hand picked Hartman and Boyle join the ranks of the city clowncil and they will also carry out more of the DFD and AFSCME agendas that they are sworn to uphold and protect. DFL Duluth chooses only the finest, handpicked, DFL loyal, controllable, ass kissing, wannabes that they can find. 80974 - Wed Aug 12 10:21:10 2009 - [Liberalism is a mental disorder] By: Fed Up |
| Will someone help me understand the Liberal mindset? How is it fair to take more money from me, a working person, and redistribute it to an illegal immigrant or someone who chooses not to work, so that they can have free healthcare? Is that what Obama meant when he told Joe the Plumber we have to "spread the wealth around"? Don't Liberals know that, if they so choose, they can voluntarily give more of their own money to the government than what is required? Why don't they each send the gov an extra $100.00 per month? The goverment won't refuse it. Put your money where your mouth is, or don't tell me I have to open my wallet more. If our healtcare system is so broken, why do European politicians and dictators from around the world come here for the best treatment? Michael Savage is correct when he asserts that "Liberalism is a mental disorder." There is no other explanation that I can find. |

US Prepares Cuban Troops For American Duty As It Surrenders High Seas To Britain By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers
Russian Military Intelligence Officials are reporting to Prime Minister Putin today that the United States has begun training Cuban Military Forces to assist the Americans in quelling what they expect to be a series of massive riots and civil unrest to hit them this coming fall as they begin to disintegrate under what is being reported as a staggering debt load estimated to now total $62 Trillion, and which as their fiscal year ends on September 30th, no Nation in the World is able to finance.
Though President Obama has failed to report his Nations training of Cuban troops, or the propaganda US news media, American Naval Commander, Brook DeWalt, speaking from a prepared statement, told Canadian reporters that the “mass casualty exercise” allows the US and Cuba to “coordinate and practice emergency drills”.
Even more astounding than the Americans training the soldiers of their sworn 50-year-long enemy of Fidel Castro’s Cuba, these reports also state that in an “historic ceremony” the United States Navy has surrendered to Britain their sovereignty of the High Seas, and of which we can read as reported by the BBC News Service:
“A US Navy vessel has become the first non-British ship to take part in a ceremony at the Tower of London that dates back hundreds of years. The USS Halyburton was involved in the Constable's Dues ritual, which involved the crew being challenged for entry into the capital.
It mirrors an ancient custom in which a ship had to unload some of its cargo for the sovereign to enter the city. The ceremony dates back to the 14th Century.”
Though lost to this current generation of Americans, their Nation’s bowing down before the British Sovereign would most certainly have caused their Founding Fathers to recoil in horror, and who’s first President, George Washington, in warning his countrymen about the British stated that, “The time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves.”
Unfortunately for the American people of today, the satanic symbolism underlying these ancient rituals, including Obama’s bowing before the British Queen this past April, were once well known by their ancestors and were quickly eradicated from the United States by an all-observing public, such as in 1826 when these people rose up in unison to chase from office all those associated with the Freemasons in what is called the Morgan Affair.
Equally distressing for those Americans still aware of their past was yesterdays announcement by Obama declaring that “he has the right” to ignore legislation made the law of the land by the US Congress, and which, essentially, gives him unprecedented dictatorial powers over his citizens.
And to those dictatorial powers Obama is set to use against the American people, he, and his socialist allies, are preparing one of the most insidious series of new laws meant to totally enslave these peoples without their even knowing what is about to hit them through what is being called H.R. 3200, and is titled “To provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending, and for other purposes”.
But to the truth of this massive 1,107 page new series of US laws, it is to the “other purposes” that should chill these American people to their very core as these “other purposes” include:
All American citizens being ordered to have a National ID Card (page 58) US government to have immediate access to every American citizens bank accounts (page 59) All property owned by Doctors in the US to be determined by government (page 317) All American citizens ordered to give the US government power of attorney over their living wills (page 425) The US government given a new power to determine who and how their citizens die (page 427) End of Life plan for each American citizen ordered by the government (page 429) US government to decide on who, and who can’t be married (page 489)
Though Putin has previously warned Obama about the dangers of creating a socialist America by telling him not to exercise “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence”, America’s War Leaders are continuing to ignore the dire consequences of what they are doing to their once great Nation.
So alarmed has President Medvedev become at how fast the United States has disintegrated due to its moral implosion, he has ordered that all preteen children at Russia’s 12,000 schools be taught either religion or secular ethics in order to protect the Motherland from the barbaric consumerism that has laid waste to what was once the most powerful Nation in the World.
Sadly for the American people of today, and whose First President, George Washington, warned that “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.”, the elimination of religion from their public schools is nearly complete, even to the absurd point that to even pray in public before a child’s sporting event can land these Americans in jail.
Even more sadly, these American people continue to laugh at the many warnings, such as ours, being shouted at them, from all around the World, as they are led like sheep towards a cataclysmic slaughter the likes of which has not been seen in our entire human history.

80968 - Tue Aug 11 09:51:03 2009 - [A private dinner with the President] By: AESOP |
Once upon a time, I was invited to the White House for a private dinner with the President. I am a respected businessman, with a factory that produces memory chips for computers and portable electronics. There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the administration, but I paid it no mind. I live in a free country. There's nothing that the government can do to me if I've broken no laws. My wealth was earned honestly, and an invitation to dinner with an American President is an honor.
I checked my coat, was greeted by the Chief of Staff, and joined the President in a yellow dining room. We sat across from each other at a table draped in white linen. The Great Seal was embossed on the china. Uniformed staff served our dinner. The meal was served, and I was startled when my waiter suddenly reached out, plucked a dinner roll off my plate, and began nibbling it as he walked back to the kitchen.
"Sorry about that," said the President. "Andrew is very hungry."
"I don't appreciate..." I began, but as I looked into the calm brown eyes across from me, I felt immediately guilty and petty.. It was just a dinner roll. "Of course," I concluded, and reached for my glass. Before I could, however, another waiter reached forward, took the glass away and swallowed the wine in a single gulp.
"And his brother Eric is very thirsty." said the President.
I didn't say anything. The President is testing my compassion, I thought. I will play along. I don't want to seem unkind. My plate was whisked away before I had tasted a bite.
"Eric's children are also quite hungry."
With a lurch, I crashed to the floor. My chair had been pulled out from under me. I stood, brushing myself off angrily, and watched as it was carried from the room.
"And their grandmother can't stand for long."
I excused myself, smiling outwardly, but inside feeling like a fool. Obviously I had been invited to the White House to be sport for some game. I reached for my coat, to find that it had been taken. I turned back to the President.
"Their grandfather doesn't like the cold."
I wanted to shout - that was my coat! But again, I looked at the placid smiling face of my host and decided I was being a poor sport. I spread my hands helplessly and chuckled. Then I felt my hip pocket and realized my wallet was gone. I excused myself and walked to a phone on an elegant side table. I learned shortly that my credit cards had been maxed out, my bank accounts emptied, my retirement and equity portfolios had vanished, and my wife had been thrown out of our home. Apparently, the waiters and their families were moving in. The President hadn't moved or spoken as I learned all this, but finally I lowered the phone into its cradle and turned to face him.
"Andrew's whole family has made bad financial decisions. They haven't planned for retirement, and they need a house. They recently defaulted on a sub-prime mortgage. I told them they could have your home. They need it more than you do."
My hands were shaking. I felt faint. I stumbled back to the table and knelt on the floor. The President cheerfully cut his meat, ate his steak and drank his wine.
I lowered my eyes and stared at the small grey circles on the tablecloth that were water drops.
"By the way," He added, "I have just signed an Executive Order nationalizing your factories. I'm firing you as head of your business. I'll be operating the firm now for the benefit of all mankind. There's a whole bunch of Erics and Andrews out there and they can't come to you for jobs groveling like beggars."
I looked up. The President dropped his spoon into the empty ramekin which had been his creme brulee. He drained the last drops of his wine.
As the table was cleared, he lit a cigarette and leaned back in his chair. He stared at me. I clung to the edge of the table as if were a ledge and I were a man hanging over an abyss. I thought of the years behind me, of the life I had lived. The life I had earned with a lifetime of work, risk and struggle. Why was I punished? How had I allowed it to be taken? What game had I played and lost? I looked across the table and noticed with some surprise that there was no game board between us. What had I done wrong?
As if answering the unspoken thought, the President suddenly cocked his head, locked his empty eyes to mine, and bared a million teeth, chuckling wryly as he folded his hands.
"You should have stopped me at the dinner roll," he said.

It is because he is scared. He doesn't have the answer to anything, and he will probably stumble worse than Obama without his trusty teleprompter. Jimmy's House website sucks, there are no updates, but his Facebook page shows him "touring" the area on Aug 6th and 7th. Stating and showing stimulus money well at work in the Northland. Jimmy is probably spending his time using all those bike trails he lobbied for years ago. Said Facebook page also shows him giving a speech at the HHH institute on August 5th. What does that have to do with District 8?
Jim Oberstar is a joke. How the residents of this district can reelect him time and time again is beyond me. |

The Congressclown wouldn't even consider a town hall meeting to discuss healthcare. He is about as in touch with reality as Chernenko was when they used the stick to hold him up on Red Square, even though he has died long before. I seriously doubt that The Congressclown could debate a 1st grader, let alone thousands of his unrepresented and pissed off constituents. All the Congressclown cares about now is living the high life out in his multi-million dollar home out in D.C. as another DFL elitist, put into power many years ago by the vast Northland base of clueless,DFL minions.
It is sad that a person like this is in an elected office with the power that it holds. The fact that he could get elected is a testament to the dumbing down of the voters in this area. |

80958 - Mon Aug 10 12:00:29 2009 - [Oberstar a "no show" for town halls] By: LIB Reader Online |
I want to go to a town hall meeting with the Congressman that does not listen to the people. When I can his office, my comments fall on deft ears.
I do not want to talk to a staffer but want to be heard by Oberstar.
The Stimulus, Cap and Trade, and the government takeover of health care are anti-everything I believe in. These people are destroying the American way of life and I will not even be able to go green and read the LIB online for free, saving money, energy and the trees.
Why will Oberstar not come back to be heard by the people of the 8th District? We want to be heard!

Reader's view: Oberstar needs to come home
When is U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar coming home to Northeastern Minnesota? I know his home in Chisholm is probably nothing compared to his home out east, but wouldn’t it be nice for him to sleep in his own bed?
I really would like to talk to him. I’m tired of talking to his staffers or getting his canned replies to my e-mails. I want to ask why he voted — twice — for bailouts when 1,300 of his own constituents asked him not to. Why did he vote for the bailout of Wall Street when the main streets of Northeastern Minnesota are hurting? Why does he keep voting for additional spending when so many of us are tightening our belts and really researching our purchases? Why does he seem to vote on bills without having ample time to read them?
Why did Oberstar support cap and trade, a bill that will have a drastic effect on his constituents? Does he support the health care bills? Does he support the middle-class tax increase President Obama is considering? Does he know the White House is asking Americans to report the fishy behavior of people who don’t support its agenda?
I was told Oberstar would spend the month of August in Minnesota. I assumed Northeastern Minnesota and that town hall meetings would be posted on his Web site. I haven’t seen anything listed at the site or even that he’s home. And August is nearly half over.
Is Oberstar coming home soon? I really want to talk.

80953 - Sun Aug 9 13:09:39 2009 - [Take what you want] By: John W. |
Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:
We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a model separation agreement:
Our two groups can equitably divide up this country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effort lessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).
We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.. You can have your beloved homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .
You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters.
When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them secu rity.
We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.
We'll keep the SUV s, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volkswagon you can find.
We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.
We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.
Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.
Sincerely,
John J. Wall
Law Student and an American
P.S. Also, please take Barbara Streisand & Jane Fonda with you!

80950 - Sat Aug 8 15:57:28 2009 - [The clock is ticking ] By: Time Is On My Side |
| One must be careful not to upset, St. Louis County Social Service Utopia Agent, Unapposed County Commissioner, Christian of Conveneince, Steve O'Neil, on this blog site. Has the DCB no fear of czars and what happens when you allow verbal attacks on those "Connected Ones" who would run from service or circumstances to their nation or community instead of facing a system gone perhaps morally wrong? Like Ness letting a broken car be repossed, it's always someone elses' problem. No one is to challenge why O'Neil or Ness have exercised such a lack of honest character and fiscal common sense while they "worked" the poverty angle their party selfishly created to insure common sense challenged political security and comfort. The outcome of this mentallity is currently written on, the doors of repossed homes, downtrodden American hearts and dreams, and the wallets of most everyone all across America. Are folks like O'Neil, Ness, Obama, and the DFL possibly foolish and selfish enough not to realize they enable the greed of the wealthy at the cost of a healthy democratic community. A Community is not a Commune. People in a commune are far easier to milk and control than in a free democratic community. Our records show the accepting of the redistribution of wealth and media hype progressively pursued by the DFL, begrudingly submitted to by the GOP, and consumed by a complacent and apathetic America, today, is a sad statement of what we are leaving future generations. Whether it be a Socialistic form of Redistribution or some form of Revolution, the clock is ticking on the pass or fail test of Democratic American Ideals and Individualism. These are the very values that formed one of the greatest nations in history. Legally backing huge lobbied corrupt tax credits and bailouts, rampant and malignant growth of gov't that's loaded with non-productive and unequitable labor, the filling of voting booths with those so selfishly dependant on the gov't that a disgusting "Joke of Ideals" like Al Frankin is elected, AND the legalized raping of the actual economic backbone of a free democratic community into poverty while the wealthy buy up what's left of the ruins with undeserved tax dollars, dime on the dollar, is not a redistribution or recovery that histroy indicates thrived or survived for any recognizable period of time! |

80948 - Sat Aug 8 15:30:47 2009 - [DFL dive of crime] By: Adam R |
I saw the police caught a smoked Swede downtown burglarizing some building. I am wondering, is the arrested a Duluth East or a Duluth Denfeld graduate or possibly not from the area? I know that latter is difficult for some to imagine.
Maybe I will have to check with Stahl to see if the criminal is yet another fine, outstanding, Duluth resident. But then again Stahl seems to treat those from Detroit, Chicago, and Minneapolis like Cubans on the Florida beaches. If you make it to the beaches of Duluth, you are a Duluthian! Way to go Stahl.
Seems that I have seen a lot of smoked Swedes on the news lately committing some pretty serious crimes. I have yet to recognize one of them as former classmates of mine. I wonder how that can be if these are really some of our finest, brightest Duluthians showing the best they have to offer.
I would recommend staying out of downtown altogether, as it have been turned into a DFL dive of crime. That is, if you care about your safety at all. Duluth is looking more and more like Detroit every day. Any bets of when the next smoked Swede will strike? |

80945 - Sat Aug 8 11:58:15 2009 - [Oberstar comment on Fed takeover] By: taxpaper extraordinaire |
This is an excerpt from Oberstar's response to an email I had sent him and other Congressmen/Senators. There has been o response from Franken.
I asked the following questions:
The proposed legislation is a death sentence to a majority of the citizens and our current health care system.
* Will you oppose any health care reform bill that uses my tax dollars to pay for abortions?
* Will you oppose any health care reform bill that in any way promotes euthanasia?
* Why is Congress and the president pushing through a health care bill that would cost another trillion dollars over the next ten years?
* Shouldn't we concentrate on getting the debt under control first?
* How can government promise to do more with less? Will you oppose any health care reform bill that in any way limits my access to health care or medicines recommended by my doctor?
* Why are you imposing additional mandates and taxes on small businesses, which create the overwhelming majority of new jobs, in the middle of a severe recession?
* Why are you trying to force us in the direction of more government involvement in health care when everywhere government-run health care has been tried, quality declines and care is rationed?
* Why do you believe bureaucrats can make better decisions than me about what kind of health insurance I should have? And will you guarantee that any health care reform bill passed by Congress will always allow me to choose my own doctor?
* Why are you and the White House rushing this bill through Congress and ignoring the concerns of the American people?
* Why are you throwing affirmative action/racial set asides into a health care reform bill?
* Isn't it clear that this provision would drive up the cost of health insurance for everyone?
There will continue to be much discussion and debate as we work to build consensus on this critical issue. I am hopeful that opponents of health care reform will offer input on this issue as opposed to circulating myths. At present, I believe that the House health insurance reform bill needs to be improved to ensure that Minnesota health care providers are not adversely impacted by the creation of a public plan option; I believe that additional improvements should be added to improve rural health care, and it is imperative that the legislation not authorize the use of taxpayer dollars to cover abortion. I plan to spend significant time in August evaluating the input that I receive from constituents, reviewing the legislative changes that have been made and making recommendations for further improvement.
With best wishes.
Sincerely,
James L. Oberstar, M.C.

80940 - Fri Aug 7 13:21:03 2009 - [Why the double DFL standard?] By: Iwanna No |
The issue of the overpayment of retiree benefits through PERA puzzles me. Some say that those who were overpaid should be able to keep all of it.
It was necessary for me to accept welfare payments because of situation my children and I found ourselves in. After being abandoned in a remote area, with no transportation it took years to get back on my feet.
Once I had an income social service was quick to collect what they considered 'overpayments.' These were months that I received a check from welfare but also managed to earn a few dollars, and I do mean a 'few' dollars. Each cent was accounted for and although very difficult, I managed to pay all 'overpayments' back. It took a long time because once in the work force the minimum wage I received didn't go very far.
So I guess I want to know why the double standard, why should these employees be able to keep their overpayments? |

Any accountants out there? If the house is valued at $200,000 (2,300 sq.ft., probably valued more), then the family probably has to mortgage it up to pay off the mortgage on their existing home, as well as cover the estimated tax liability. Am I going down the right path? |

As much as it pains me to say this, I have to admit it - my Democrat friends were right.
They told me if I voted for McCain, the nation's hope would deteriorate, and sure enough there has been a 20 point drop in the Consumer Confidence Index since the election, reaching a lower point than any time during the Bush administration.
They told me if I voted for McCain, the US would become more deeply embroiled in the Middle East, and now, tens of thousands of additional troops are scheduled to be deployed into Afghanistan .
My Democrat Party friends told me if I voted for McCain, that the economy would get worse and sure enough unemployment is at 9.4% and the new stimulus packages implemented recently have sent the stock market lower than at any time since the Islamic Terrorists attacks of 9-11.
They told me if I voted for McCain, we would see more "crooks" in high ranking positions in Federal government and sure enough, several recent cabinet nominees and Senate appointments revealed resumes of scandal, bribery and tax fraud.
They told me if I voted for McCain, we would see more "Pork at the trough" in Federal government and sure enough, 17,500 "Pork Bills" showed up in Congress since January 2009.
I was also told by my Democrat friends that if I voted for McCain, we would see more deficit spending in Washington D..C. , and sure enough, Obama has spent more in just 30 days than all other Presidents together - in the entire history of the good ole USA!!
Well I voted for McCain in November and my Democrat friends were right... all of their predictions have come true!

STARFIRE: Truthism, get with the program and use your real DCB handle DFL Rube. | Murders have to cost the city more. All the investigation, reporting, court costs, jail time and more have to add up to an awful big number. |

80906 - Sat Aug 1 02:05:36 2009 - [DFL Duluth Property Tax Extortion] By: JBBP |
Sure Thing...
I noticed how property tax extortion funds fetch more for the county, too.
Trouble is, the market value assessments on our homes are set/made by the city. The county doesn't do that.
Henchmen get paid less than their bosses, as a rule, so that's not a big surprise.
Thank you. |

80905 - Fri Jul 31 23:28:09 2009 - [ Sleep on that tonight.] By: Danny G |
Hey look. New posts. How about that.
Anyway, I have no idea how much murders cost the city, but there is another interesting fact that I came up with on DDD last week that I think should be looked at.
With Duluth's current population and number of murders so far this year compared to Minneapolis's current population and number of murders there so far this year...Duluth currently has a higher murder percentage rate than Minneapolis. Sleep on that tonight. |

| DFL Rube. The PD is spending in excess of $100,000 in police overtime. The theory is an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Never mind the two recent homicides in our own city. |

This is the 3rd post in 4 days! Ohhhh, you idiots are so on your way out!! WAIT! The counter said you had 2000 posts in the past 3 days. Go figure!
How much overtime does the PD need with the Hells Angels? Choppers, cop cars all over, and a media firestorm! They could build a new DPD station with this cash! |

80899 - Thu Jul 30 20:26:31 2009 - [DFD problem elimination] By: KM |
| So if the DFD has had so much trouble with Stauber, any thoughts as to who they're going to endorse for council? Why not back Hall? Seriously, it would help unite the conservative vote, maybe knocking Stauber out of contention, maybe even out of the primary? Problem gone. |

80898 - Wed Jul 29 01:06:35 2009 - [DFL Duluth Hogwash] By: Sure Thing |
| I find it funny each time I see people complain about their property taxes and blame the city. Has anyone actually looked at their tax statement? My County taxes are three times that of my city portion. My city portion for last year was under $400. That's less than $40 a month. My county was nearly $1000. Seems people blame the city too much for their property tax woes and the county too little. |

80896 - Tue Jul 28 00:09:33 2009 - [Duluth Draft Dodgers] By: 60's Warrior |
| County Commissioner Steve O'Neil admitted he ran from military service when his draft number came up. I left this city shortly after my return from service in the army after being drafted for the Vietnam War. I have returned to take care of my elderly parents and plan on staying until I'm called by my savior. For those of us who served when called, it is hard to describe the feelings we have for those draft dodgers. Mr. O'Neil is a draft dodger who should never have been elected to his current position for what he did, and that was turn his back on this country. I witnessed the city council meeting tonight and noted another anti-war protester speaking at the council meeting and often wonder why we listen to these folks who have a hatred towards our country. I am going to participate in the upcoming elections and will make sure it is known which candidates dislike our military and the ones who ran from the call of duty. There is another local big mouth who I need to confirm whether or not he ran from the draft too. Larry, if I can confirm your a draft dodger, I will make sure the public knows so they can make up their minds whether or not to listen to your input or not. In my opinion, anyone who runs from required service to their country shall not be elected to any office. When I look at an American Flay I get choked up, I'm betting the draft dodgers see hatred in our flag. I'm happy to be back in my hometown of Duluth and look forward to election season. |

80894 - Mon Jul 27 01:11:18 2009 - [Postage recall ] By: Dennis Miller |
Postage recall
The U.S. Postal Service created a stamp with a picture of President Obama. The stamp was not sticking to envelopes.
This enraged the President, who demanded a full investigation.
After a month of testing and $1.73 million in congressional spending, a special Presidential commission presented the following findings:
1. The stamp is in perfect order.
2. There is nothing wrong with the adhesive.
3. People are spitting on the wrong side.

Sign in an INDIANA store front window
'WE WOULD RATHER DO BUSINESS WITH 1000 TERRORISTS THAN WITH ONE SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER!'
This sign was prominently displayed in the window of a business in Whiting,Indiana. You are probably outraged at the thought of such an inflammatory statement.
However, we are a society which holds freedom of Speech as perhaps our greatest liberty.
And after all, it is just a sign.
You may ask what kind of business would dare post such a sign.
Answer:
Owen's Funeral Home |

80892 - Sun Jul 26 23:02:38 2009 - [ Your a disgrace my friend] By: Tourv |
| Truthism, Have you gone over your DFD budget lately. No matter how you spin it, you and your buddies are the most expensive full time fire department in this state and most likely the upper midwest. You've been schooled by many people in how to manage effectively to ensure efficiency but you will never change. You are not a good representative of your fire department, unfortunately! I know many of your co-workers who can't stand your grandstanding about how your department needs this many or that many firefighters all the time. It gets old. Your a disgrace my friend!! |

80891 - Sun Jul 26 21:21:41 2009 - [ To much time on your hands] By: Kenny |
| There are two numbers you can call to summon the Beaver Bay Minnesota Volunteer Fire Department. 911 or the Green Door Municipal Liquor Store. We should also not forget that over the years there have been Duluth Fire Department personnel arrested on duty for DWI. Perhaps it is a consequence of working 24 hour shifts. To much time on your hands with nothing to do but drink. |

80890 - Sun Jul 26 20:38:58 2009 - [spurious indeed] By: Cynic |
| Truthism, Speaking of ism's it is known today that alcoholism would make no distinction between professional and volunteer. What I hear is many professional fire fighters started out as volunteer fire fighters. If they were an alcoholic as a volunteer, then untreated, they would be an alcoholic as a professional. The kind of behavior with alcohol and fire fighting you mention would only be carried out by someone who was an alcoholic or have a serious problem drinker. Your whole argument against volunteer fire fighters is spurious indeed. Perhaps you should look in the mirror before throwing stones. |

80889 - Sun Jul 26 08:32:17 2009 - [I do not know Truthism,] By: Ms E |
Although I do not know Truthism, I do know that years ago there was an issue about Volunteers drinking at the Fire Hall where I lived. We probably are not speaking about the same fire department but back then I imagine lots of departments, especially in rural areas, engaged in this activity at different times.
I was recruited by a neighbor after most of the volunteer fire fighters quit after a dispute between members. Some of the firefighters wanted to have a beer or two after training or while cleaning equipment at the hall. Others wanted no alcohol on the premises.
Being a single mom, I wasn't really interested in joining the fire department, I already had my hands full. But I saw that there was a need. I attended weekly and special training sessions and also became certified as a first responder. I took my job seriously and responded to many calls and emergency situations. I was on the scene were people died, I always cared and I always tried.
Then I was asked to serve as a township supervisor for the same township. The first year I was appointed when a vacancy opened up and the next year I was elected.
After a while I was noticing questionable expenditures for the fire department that I was asked to vote on at township meetings. When the fire department couldn't always get my vote on the township board it wasn't long before they voted me off of the department.
I trained weekly and served for five years. I will not name names either. Unfortunately some people believe they have the right to abuse anyone or any system in their control. Ultimately revenge is the Lord's.

To the moderator...in my not always so humble opinion, by defending the tea bag post, you lost any credibility you may have had. Free speech comes with a caveat - people do not have to read such bullshit. Your partisanship is one thing, but now you have placed yourself on the same level as Craig's List Rants & Raves. You just made yourself irrelevant. Good job

080882 - Fri Jul 24 12:06:10 2009 - [Rally Cause] By: Why We Need to Rally |
At a recent meeting at City Hall Councilor Jim Stauber stated, “The Mayor needs people he can work with on DEDA.”
Not people who might challenge the Mayor and the rest of city administration to put the city first versus DFL-special interests. Not people who actually have experience creating jobs and making payroll. Nope, he wants people like Cuneo. The mayor’s puppet who will do his bidding.
Someone who, according to the Mayor, has proven himself by procuring for Duluth a $1.5 million hand-out from the state -- for what? Making lower-income homes more energy efficient.
So this “economic development. ” Our also Mayor revealed that no one had details about this program, such as: what are the loan terms? How will they be paid back? What kind of interest will the city earn? How many jobs will this program create? For how long?
Monday’s City Hall Rally started as a protest vs. Sharla Garder for her conflict of interest of voting for Sister Cities funding, then dipping into it for her own Sister Cities jaunt, and Tony Cuneo for voting to raise taxes on us, while behind on his own tax obligations.
Luckily for Tony, he was given the same plumb position with the Zeppa Foundation that Ness had before Ness was elected Mayor. Not so lucky for the rest of us having trouble paying bills is we face the real Duluth job market that is sorely lacking in high-paying jobs.
Now the Rally is taking on a prevailing arrogance at City Hall, that crosses party lines. How much more do they think we citizens can take?
* A Mayor who not only calls a man who votes to raise our taxes while delinquent on his own “one of our best city councilors,” but helps further this fellow DFLer’s career by appointing him to DEDA. Talk about stacking the deck.
* A Councilor (Stauber) who at one time indicated he was completely behind efforts to de-DEDA Cuneo, turns around and votes to approve the appointment. When asked about his own lobbying to become DEDA president while dating DEDA’s attorney, all he could say was “I never asked to be on DEDA,” as if that made his conflict of interest okay.
Here’s a person who’s outlived his effectiveness and focus on council. It’s time for Stauber to go.
* The above-mentioned issues with Gardner and Cuneo
These people are an embarrassment to the City of Duluth!
We are not, as the Mayor claims, “trying to embarrass Cuneo,” by holding this rally.
That’s an insult to the integrity of conviction we have about our city’s future.
No Mayor, we are showing City Hall that taxpayers are paying attention and demanding our elected leaders put Duluth’s interests first – not their individual future political careers.
IT’S TIME TO SHOW THEM WHO’S IN CHARGE!!
This Monday, July 27, 6:00 p.m.
